What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
I attended the first two games and noticed something disturbing after the game. I know the parents wait after the game for players to come out. One officer told them rudely that they were not allowed to wait in the dome anymore. They had to go outside of the dome and wait for the players to come out or go around to the back by the cars. Andrews mom was waiting to talk to the trainer about his injury and the officer told her she could go out front. Then a coaches wife was waiting and was told she also had to leave. Even after she told the officer who she was. Last night after it was announced that the players were going to sign autographs again the officers were rude to fans telling them to move out.
I am not sure why the change but was told it was the Cajundome who is not allowing people to wait. Last night even though the players were coming out to sign autographs they turned most of the lights down. If we are going to use the UL facilities as a recruitment tool then we cannot have parents treated rudely by the police and what harm does it do for them to wait inside after a game for their children. No let's be inhospitable and tell them to go out side.
I was appalled to say the least.

Send this to Farmer. This has not been the policy in the Cajundome for 25 years, and this is not the policy in any other basketball arena in the country. I know they have a quick turnaround for the Icegators tomorrow, but that is ridiculous.

It may have had something to with the crew needing to get the court off so they could get the ice ready for today. Just a theory.

Here's an idea . . .
UL Continuing Education is holding professional development classes in "Customer Service" on Friday December 10th from 8am to 5pm and it's only $250

If that's the case then they should announce that so that family and fans don't feel like they are being treated rudely.

Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
The officer said its the policy now and was rude with it. Seems several Lafayette officers need classes on how to communicate.

Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
Last year the ice gators played in Blacham I understood that they moved the ice floor there. Are they playing in the dome this year?

Do you know if they were city officers or University Police.
I hate this policy, and it should be changed. If they need to work on the dome floor there is a common area that the parents could gather certainly.

I walked out of the press conference only to find a worker holding my computer and computer bag, joking that they don't know what to do with it.
The game ended 20 minutes earlier. It is ridiculous.

It would be either University Police or the Sheriff's Department. Lafayette PD does not work Cajun Dome events. For just about every UL game I've been to at the Dome, its been University Police providing the security.

Ah, well that explains it.
They get off at noon on Friday. ;)

Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
Looked like Lafayette officers. They were way overboard. If its a Cajundome policy its rediculeous. Yes Scott needs to address this asap. I have been in this dome for years and held several conversations after the games with Coach Lee and players. We are talking about 30-45 minutes after the game. This policy needs to be changed ASAP!!!

Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality

Was it a taller officer with short spiked up bangs with a short fatter bald cop? I've had encounters with those officers and they are ridiculously rude. They're UP (University Police) and they have serious authority complexes. I'm not a typical habitual cop hater and I have the utmost respect for cops, but those guys go overboard with everything.

Its called Tiny _____ syndrome, and I've met a few cops that have that complex. Because they were the kids that got picked on in school, they take out their rage on other people now because their the ones with "authority".

The University Police just needed to feel like actual cops. They refer to Cajun Field as "their field" it's quite comical really.

One instance, we were tailgating in the student tailgate section. They pulled up on their mule ATV nearly hitting us and asked what we were doing. (This was during the Oklahoma St. game, so the tailgating area was extremely crowded) Puzzled, one of my friends said "just kickin' it." Then they said, "Go kick it somewhere else."
????? Really?
-
Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
Yeah, we were tailgating once and they rolled up in their baller ATVs and the passenger hopped out before the cart stopped demanding to see IDS. It was some special ops ish. Hilarious.
At the basketball game last night there was UP staying at me and my friends every time we'd heckle someone.

So, I suppose a UP who goes through the same police academy that the Sheriff, the city, and numerous other municipal police departments go to isn't a real cop? How about being held to a higher standard, i.e. having to pass with higher grades than other departments in the academy, or what about the state jurisdiction they have?
I'm not a UP, but I have friends that are. I can assure you they're real cops. I also know that the cops that work the games are the student officers. So, they're cops, and have the pressures of that, but they're also students. Where its hard enough to be a student or cop alone, they're both. Every department is going to have a few cops that can be rude, but it's really the nature of the job. In America, the unfortunate thing is that people don't listen to cops who are nice. They have to be rude sometimes so that people will listen to them. They were just doing their job. If they were told they had to get everybody out quickly, then that's what they had to do.
People way too often blame cops for problems they have with policy. They also get blamed and hated on when they do their job right. When it comes to it, I guess they were told to get everybody out of the dome as quickly as they could, and they did it.
As far as getting annoyed at the UP staring at us heckling New Mexico's bench, there was only really one group of us heckling them. He wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem, and statistically speaking, if anything would have happened, it probably would have been with that group.

The ice silliness is making our B-ball schedule a mess. Will hurt attendance and the program. We'll just have to wait for the it to tank again. I know the Cajundome needs to be used but hopefully, B-ball will be it's best use. The football and ice stuff is just plain silly. Didn't work last time, new management won't help. IMHO and hope.

Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
Regardless who the police are being rude is not acceptable. My problem is with who came up with the NEW policy to literally herd everyone out of the dome. They need go back to letting the players come out and show parents of players and coaches wives some respect.

Re: What is up with the Cajundome Hospitality
All cops should take a hospitality management course and all civilians should vacate the premises.
So the cops can go home and study. . .
