Ragin' Cajun Blog: UL adds DI transfers Mike Petello, Ben Frith, Joe Zimmermann

Re: Ragin' Cajun Blog: Cajuns add Division I transfers Mike Petello and Ben Frit
I remember that Zimmerman kid. Those numbers don't tell the story of what kind of stuff he has. Under the tutelage of Robe, Zimmerman can be an outstanding Sunday starter or late inning reliever for us. I'm very excited about this..

Cool. Sounds like a few guys that can step up immediately and contribute.

Zimmerman pitched well at the end of the season. Beat LSU and pitched well againt the Cajuns. Pettelo's bat will provide some pop in the middle of the Cajuns lineup.

This fall is going to be fun to watch, competition at every position. From my estimation it looks like about 45-47 athletes battling for 32 roster spots, can't wait.

Who would Pettelo beat out to get into the lineup?

IMO There are only three Cajuns from last year's team that will be on the field somewhere in 2011, Fontenot, Goulas, and Poirrier. I think all other positions will be up for grabs. I know the coaches will say every position is open but as far as position players I believe 5 of the 8 positions will be decided in the fall and early spring.

Pettello could alternate at a corner OF position and DH. He will not play in CF for the Cajuns.

45-47 sounds high, would you care to list them all?

It will take a hell of a player to beat out T-Fred at third... now with a year of experience under his belt.

I don't have a list yet, but I've been told that there are at least 45, (a lot of pitchers). As soon as I can get a list I'll post it.

Petello played CF at UNO and is a very good athlete. The coaches haven't totally ruled him out yet in CF because they want to see everybody during fall ball. He will be in the lineup somewhere in OF or DH. Was expected to be drafted over summer, but it didn't happen. Hits for power and drives in runs.

I seem to remember hearing that Dillon Guillory and Garrett Larsen may not be playing baseball.

I remember hearing dillan may opt not to play, but I don't know if he is or isn't. That's the first I hear about Larson

Petello is also a pretty good outfielder with a plus arm. I see him in right field, personally.

I like both of those guys, but I don't think their position is locked up.
Fuse struggles in the field. If Petello takes over in right, Goulas moves to left and Fuse fights for the DH spot.
TFred had a solid season. But Robichaux saved him a bunch of errors at 3B. he's going to have to be better there.

Fontenot will get a big push from Jordan Bourque out of LSU-E, who swings a solid bat and is good defensively.
Porrier may wind up being the DH. The Hicks kid coming in is small, but he's the real deal. Might be tough for him to win the job as a frosh, but there will be some competition there.
Porrier of course, will be in the lineup regardless.

Wow seems to be a lot more competition than i thought. I like that, that means player will fight harder and play harder. whoever starting, I believe we will get their full effort. This also means we have some talented newcomers on the team which is great as well

Thad Griffen, Dillon Guillory and Garrett Larsen are done playing baseball. Griffen will try to finish up his degree soon. Guillory will work to finish up his degree and likely enter one of the military branches. Larsen, who never fully recovered from arm surgery, is expected to be a student assistant coach this season while finishing up his degree.

fuz and t-fred are pretty good ball players, but lets not fool ourselves we could definitly upgrade.

Well I'm not sure what u saw out there this past season but I saw a freshman (tfred)be inserted in the lineup after every other option was exhausted, and put the put the team on his back and got things turned around. As a freshman I might add. He hit over 300 for nearly the entire season and had less than 10 errors. He hit for power at times, and came up with numerous clutch hits. To me, he plays the game hard every pitch.n I'd take a few more players like that

You're right ... maybe the year of experience and bigger, faster, stronger t-fred will be the improved version of t-fred! I like his moxie - he will only get better and competition will help him!
