Predict the Record: Ragin' Cajuns Football 2010
With 60 days left until the home opener for Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns, I figured it was time we took it to Ragin Pagin to see how the fans think the Cajuns will perform during the 2010 football season.

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin's Cajun Football 2010
W: ASU, MTSU, NT, WKU, FAU, FIU, ULM
L: UGA, OSU, Troy, Ole Miss, Ohio
I could see us knocking off Ohio and dropping another conference game so 7-5 looks about right.

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin's Cajun Football 2010
Every year I vote with my heart and not with head on this thread. Every year I end up being off by a game or two in the win column. I just think this years brutal schedule will end up getting the best of our Cajuns, and we will end up at 5-7...:( Here's to hoping I'm off by a game or two in the loss column this time!

I'm thinking about the same thing except that i have us beating ohio and losing to one of SBC schools. I dont have one particular team in mind but we always seem to lose at least one close game to a SBC team when we are on the road (like FIU last year). Also, MTSU is a tough one for me. they are probably the best team in the conference but we do have them at home which is nice. To me, Ohio is a big game for us b/c if we lose that game, then we will probably have a hard time getting 7 wins. Everything has to go our way for us to pull of this tough schedule.

You are correct. The Ohio game is the biggest game on the schedule. However, this is a program that has progressed over the years. I think this progression will lead to more SBC wins this year. First, we are amongst the leaders at returning starters on both sides of the ball. Last year, our skill positions were the big question mark and while there was no flash, there was more production than recently anticipated and all of those players are back. We've added a lot of talent at RB and our line returns a lot of depth. Also, the SBC is much more open than in recent years. MTSU will be a good team but I'm not as high on them as a lot of others around. They've rarely succeeded when they've had high expectations put on them as Stockstill was on the hot seat last year heading into league play. I saw what Troy did to them to start conference and I truly don't think they are more talented at any one position than most other SBC schools. Troy has lost a lot of their playmakers, especially on defense but their offense is going to be deadly. All the other schools have lost a lot of past production and are relative uncertains to how they will do. This is the year for this team to win 6 conference games as we have a lot of experience back on both sides of the ball. I think this is the year that we should place the higher expectations on Bustle and let it be known that we tend to compete for the conference title,

We CANT go 0-4 in our non conference games. And I agree, this team is only getting better and better as the years go by. and I believe if we had the type of schedule that we've had in the past then we would easily get 7 wins but this schedule is just so tough. Biggest question mark for me is how much is our D-line gonna improve? IMO, if the D-line doesnt get better, we cant get 7 wins probably not even 6 with this schedule.

You ended the sentence with a comma, so I'm not sure if that was a typo or you meant to add something. I agree with what you said, but would add after that comma that the least acceptable scenario if not winning the conference is winning 7 games and going to a bowl. A conference championship would be ideal, but it remains Bowl game or bust. Bustle does not get a pass with the schedule. The loss to FIU last year cost us a bowl game and FIU only had 3 wins (including UL). There are NO EXCUSES after 8 years or 9 years when this season is over.
Our OOC schedule is pretty much on a par with other members. With MT at home, we need to win at least 7 of our 8 conference games and take the chance away from needing an upset in our OOC games. That means winning all conference home games and beating UNT, FAU and ULM on the road which should be doable. And, Troy just might be beatable this year with only 9 returning starters and an inexperienced defensive front 7 and QB. This should no longer be just hope on our part, but an actual expectation of our football program.
UL - Georgia, OK State, Ohio, Ole Miss
Ark State - Auburn, Louisville, Indiana, Navy
FAU - UAB, Michigan State, S. Florida, Texas
FIU - Rutgers, Texas A&M, Maryland, Pitt
ULM - Arkansas, Southeastern LA, Auburn, LSU
MT - Minnesota, Austin Peay, Memphis, Georgia Tech
N. Texas - Clemson, Rice, Army, Kansas State
Troy - Bowling Green, OK State, UAB, South Carolina

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin's Cajun Football 2010
The optimist in me says 6-6. The realist says 5-7.
-
If the Cajuns don't do any better then 7-5, the university will have to make some tough decisions, and many people on this board will not be happy with anything less then a 7 win season. Unfortunatley, with our schedule, I'm hoping for a 6-6 season. However, I know it is very possible to do better.

Let's pray we finish at least 7-5 and get a bowl bid. I'm starting to feel like Buddy D. I'm wondering if I will live long enough to see us in a bowl. This is going to be our year!.~.

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin's Cajun Football 2010
Getting past 6-6 won't be easy with the schedule we face. Any chance at all of us going bowling with a record of 6-6?

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin's Cajun Football 2010
Well remember
We are young
Injuries
We dont have enough money
You hurt the team's confidence if you post negative stuff on this board
It's an even year
The White Devil Slave Masters in Baton Rouge buy all the good players
The Schedule is brutal
Playing on Friday hurts the crowd and we all know we only win when we have 20k+.... oh wait
Remember what he inherited 3 decades ago... you cant expect overnight success
Have I missed any excuses???
I'm looking for 8 wins... Demand excellence or find someone who can produce it...
Ok flame away

No flames. No more excuses. This is Bustle's 9th year. It is time that we DEMAND excellence. Our schedule is no tougher than anyone else. This is why we are in 1A and not 1AA. Bowl game or bust and that means a minimum of 7 wins. I am looking for 8 wins as well, 7 conference wins and one OOC upset.

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin's Cajun Football 2010
I think that every year, we analyze schedules. At the end of each year, our analysis is no where close to what actually transpires throughout the season. That being said, I think OHIO won't be nearly as good as people have in their minds. I think FIU will be MUCH better. I think FAU will not be a superior to team to the Cajuns in 2010. I think weather could play a factor in our of our non conference games, neutralizing team speed, putting us on a more level playing field, giving us a chance to steal a win. I think this team will play its ass off when the Pokes come to town, knowing what its like to beat a BCS school at home; knowing what it takes, and how it feels.
7 - 5, bowling baby..

I would agree. I tend to chuckle when people are calling a win over Ohio an "upset". I don't think they pose any challenges to us that we can't handle and I do not think they are more talented than we are. I think the same could be said when we played them here in 2007. We dominated those guys the first half and looked great. The problem.....We got outcoached so bad in the second half it was apparent to everybody in that stadium. We also got outcoached badly last year in the KSU game in the second half but we were able to hold on and win.
I think several teams in the SBC will be better than expected starting with NT and FIU. Too many people put a lot of stock into what you did last year in predicting what you will do this year. That is why I think that MTSU will be a bit overrated this year as well. The thing is, every team in the SBC took heavy losses on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball except the cajuns. If this team and its players progress in the offseason, winning 6 games in the SBC should be expected and demanded.

We've all heard those excuses for what seems like forever. They make me sick because it is pathetic the way we prepare to lose even before the season begins! I've been one of Bustle's biggest critics but he is our guy and if he can bring us to a bowl game this year I will be his biggest supporter. I agree Houston it is way overdue for his team to produce.
One thing the Saints taught me is anything is possible. I have always loved the Saints like most folks on this board but I have to say they were more lucky than good last year. It was simply their year. THIS WILL BE OUR YEAR!!!:)
9-3 BABY! SEE ALL YOU GUYS IN THE DOME THIS DECEMBER!!!

Re: Predict the Record: Ragin' Cajuns Football 2010
I don't see why people think 7-5 is a possibility. Going 7-5 means winning at least 3 games on the road (we will not beat OSU at home). Hell, we probably won't win against MT, which means winning 4 games on the road. Bustle has never been better than .500 on the road (3-3 in 2005 and 2006). I don't see Bustle as the man that can get us those wins on the road when we need them this year.
W: ASU, UNT, WKU, FIU, Monroe
L: UGA, MT, OSU, Troy, Ohio, Ole Miss, FAU
I actually have ASU has a toss up, but went ahead and put it as a W because the game is at home. Best I see is 6-6, worse is 4-8. My gut says 5-7.

@Ohio is a winnable game. If we can't win that game, Bustle needs to go, and we just aren't that good a team. Same goes for @FAU. I don't see how you completely disregard our chance to win AT HOME against Okie State. They lost LOADS of starters, not to mention the offense pop that carried them for 3 years. They're defense wasn't and won't be world beaters, so again, where is the optimism? Weren't you one of the guys saying we didn't have a chance against K State as well?

@ Ohio is not a winnable game. This is a game on the road against a team that played for a MAC championship and was in a bowl game last year. Not to mention that they have a better coach in Frank Solich. Remember, we couldn't even beat these guys with Fenroy and Desormeaux at home!
Okie State is still Okie State. They will be a good football team and have a good football coach.
Where is the optimism? Show me where the optimism should come from. And you'll have to find a post by me where I said we didn't stand a chance against KSU. I, like most people, didn't like our chances, but I didn't say we didn't stand a chance.

So we had a better chance to beat K State pregame, then we do of beating Ohio University pregame? Interesting... I personally will never label a game against a MAC school "unwinnable". True, they played for a MAC championship last year, but I have two issues with that: 1 - They lost half of their team to graduation. 2 - The MAC is widely considered a sub par conference when compared to the SBC in the last 7 years.
OSU will still be good, I agree. But wasn't K State "good"? They were Big XII North Champions, so I guess "good" is in the eye of the beholder. The point is, people said the same thing about Kansas St that they're saying about OSU. And its been stated several times that this years' squad is going to be much better. So we'll see..

They may have lost half of their team to graduation (I'm sure you meant starters and not team), but they will still contend for a MAC championship again this year. The MAC champion did beat the SBC champion in a bowl game last year, so you cannot say the entire conference is sub par when compared the Sun Belt. They are on equal ground.
I wouldn't say K-State was "good" last year. Everyone knew they were going to stuggle and they did struggle, but Snyder proved once again how good of a coach he is by getting them to contend for a Big 12 North title. K-State finished tied for 2nd in the Big 12 North with Mizzou, 2 games back of Nebraska.
The 2010 Okie State team would beat the 2009 K-State team.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree here. I don't see how you could say the 2010 Pokes could beat the 2009 Wildcats when you haven't seen them hike the ball one time yet this season.
I still stand by my statement that Ohio is absolutely a winnable game on the road, and I believe we have a chance to beat the Pokes at home. Can't come soon enough mate!

I just don't see how someone can say that the 2010 Cajuns can beat the 2010 Pokes when neither team has hiked the ball one time this season! :p
You're not the only one who can't wait. Depsite us not having a lot of winnable road games (at least in my opinion), it is probable that I'm going to UGA and definitely going to Monroe. And I'll be at the 5 games in the Swamp.
