What if Louisiana to the PAC?
….endless talk on Memphis and Tex St possibly added as travel partners…..what about Louisiana and Tulane??? What a trip for the rest of the conference…..the Cajun area and Nola….not knowing how the travel arraignments are made, can some one post a hypothetical for Mbb and basketball along with the ladies and may be a football week!

Or, if Memphis and Tulane don't go, what about UL as a travel partner for Texas State. If the money is right, would be major improvement over the SunBelt in perception and competition, IMO.

Re: What if Louisiana to the PAC?
Until the PAC gets a media rights deal in place, we can spitball moves all we want, but money talks.
-
Re: What if Louisiana to the PAC?
The PAC whatever is now being considered as a non power conference. There is nothing really to gain.
It’s like Peter Griffin’s relationship to KISS via their relationship with his wife, Loose Lois.

Chicken and egg, we would be better off goimg before a deal, because once there is a deal others would try harder to get the spot and bump us or blackball us

Re: What if Louisiana to the PAC?
No. I have no interest watching us play games at 9 or 10pm central.

How would our fans respond to a conference makeup and schedule that would include:
Wash State
Oregon State
Boise State
San Diego State
Fresno State
Colorado State
Utah State
Texas State (?)
Louisiana
and Gonzaga in basketball
Outside of USM, Ark State, Texas State and occasional games vs. App State & Marshall, the SBC does not excite the average fan. Replacing ULM, S. Alabama, Troy, GA Southern, & Coastal with these teams is a major step up I would think for most fans.
And, once exit fees are resolved, the remaining MWC schools will likely also join in UNLV, New Mexico, Air Force, Nevada, and SJSU. Great road games, more formidable opponents and very likely better bowl games. And, by far a better basketball schedule.
Of course, the money has to be right, but that is for our AD to figure out. I think this is a more prestigious conference makeup.

This would be a fantastic opportunity that we should pursue.

Re: What if Louisiana to the PAC?
Looking at other sites and reddit (i know it's not a great source), it appears that Texas State is an absolute lock. Pac12 Fans on Reddit also don't hate the addition of UL & Tx State or UL, TX State, Memphis and Tulane. Their pursuit of Tulane and Memphis is still up in the air. Right now, Tulane and Memphis leaving the AAC would be a lateral move. Given the $25+ million exit fees they'd need to pay to the AAC, I don't see them making the move, but I wouldn't be surprised if the did.
MWC just signed a GOR and have given UNLV and Air Force a sweetheart deal. If they were to get out of the MWC, then it would cost them a lot. I've also read that UNLV had a $20+ million deficit so that doesn't help them out any.
Travel budget is the biggest hurdle, but I'm seeing new PAC media deal could be north of $10 million per school. That with ticket sales from quality opponents, more university exposure and waking up our base that has longed for something bold from this administration could lead to more donations. Would offset the cost of travel and more money in our pocket.
IMO, it's a no brainer and if TX State, Tulane and Memphis do go, AAC doesn't have to take anyone. And if they do, they may pick up App, JMU or Ga State leaving the SBC back to where it was before the 2012-13 realignment...a conference that I don't want to be a part of again. When the dust settles, the PAC & AAC will be the top two G5(6) leagues and we want/need to be a part of it.

Re: What if Louisiana to the PAC?
If we're not already quietly doing so, we should be kicking the tires on the AAC & PAC. Credit the SBC for coming a long way over the past several years. Louisiana has a lot to do with that. However the bottom line question is what is in the best long term interest of Louisiana? Short term= SBC; long term its AAC or PAC depending on who joins UL on that journey. Who knows, in order to improve their TV deals the AAC & PAC out of necessity could merge in the early 2030's. Speculative to write, but perhaps its part of the reason (besides $$) Memphis and Tulane are sitting tight in the AAC. If the PAC is considering TX St. for membership they should also consider creating a pod also including Louisiana, So.Miss, & Ark St. The SBC won't bat an eye consolidating their footprint further east which has been its trend.

Re: What if Louisiana to the PAC?
Pretty simple math......if the media rights revenue is secured. Hello PAC!!!
Time Zone issue not a big deal. At minimum 80-85% of ALL games played in Central or Mtn time zones.

This is the truth of the matter. It's even more evident when you look at our regional peers.

Utah State
Add
Louisiana
Texas St.
New Mexkco
UTSA
Arkansas St.
USM
N. Texas or UTEP
Unlikely
Tulane
Memphis
If it were to occur the American would realign themselves East picking up App, JMU,
Sunbelt would pick up WKU, and MTSU
It would definitely be a step up and i dont see that conference going anywhere. Those teams would be aligned, and technically American and the PAC 12 would be the best G5 conference,
CUSA would dissolve!!
Unless Texas St. and us would be a island by ourselves, if they do add UNLV, NM, Air Force.
I think UTSA would definitely move with TX St., question is would they reach that far east to add us?
If the opportunity arises we should definitely take it, because it would be the only avenue to get to a Power Conference.

Let's move to another trailer park, just by a different name.

Just don't stay stagnant.

Stagnant suggest that not moving elsewhere means there is something to gain by moving, nothing can be further from the truth. As we sit today, we are in the Top of the G5. Improve MBB and get Softball back up to level we are good position. There is no reason to drain our resources any further to travel west to venues Cajun fans are not going to be seen in large numbers.

Even the SEC isn't stagnant.
Always looking to improve.

This is not true, especially in our own region.

Food for thought. ULNV won’t be the last with this problem.

Yup.
Now that a way out of the ACC is defined, panic moving amongst the non A2 programs will commence in a few years in pursuit of who is the tallest midget.
That AAC revenue sharing plan, 10 million a year, will probably turn into a train wreck. How many athletic departments make a 10 million profit today? Something has to give.

As a whole over the last couple of years it actually is in terms of head to head games and metrics.
SP+ has the order in football as the following
SBC East
AAC
SBC West
MW
MAC
CUSA
Last Year both the SBC East and West were ahead of the entire G5.
Cajun T has a valid point and this decision would not be easy. That is of course assuming the PAC extended an invite which I don’t think would happen.
On the other hand perception is reality and a move to the PAC would fire up the fanbase! It could potentially be the best thing for our program.
At the end of the day an offer isn’t coming.

The new PAC will be at the top of the heap. The AAC ain't going anywhere. In football, the SBC is competitive. In nearly every other metric, including Academics, the SBC is a trailer park, particularly in the SBC West.
We are in the wrong conference.

We are in the wrong conference. We need to be in the SEC. Or Big Ten.

You are correct. We are currently in a trailer park called the SBC and I believe that is how our fans perceive our conference alignment, hence the poor support. A west coast based conference without enough central teams may not be the best move, but I disagree that the PAC is also a trailer park. In no way is that conference perceived the same was as the SBC, nor is the AAC.
