Texas State to Mountain West
I just heard Kevin Foote on the radio say a news release indicates that Texas State is prepared to accept the invitation to the Mountain West Conference!
-
Re: Texas State to Mountain West
Short sighted. But that’s for them to decide. I think we need a Texas school.

Re: Texas State to Mountain West
They’re leaving because they can’t beat the Cajuns

Re: Texas State to Mountain West
Not seeing anything official other than a Twitter account with small following making the claim. Well-connected poster on Sun Belt board also says league office has not received a formal notification from Texas State.
Think it'd be pretty dumb for them to head to MWC. PAC, maybe. Or maybe everyone is just hoping PAC and MWC kiss, make-up, and merge for the benefit of everyone.

Re: Texas State to Mountain West
Hopefully the money is there, but this seems like a lateral move if not a step back. Air Force, Nevada, San Jose State, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming. Hawai'i is also in the league as a football member.
From a travel standpoint, it makes sense. TXST is on an island out there and flying West instead of East for them is pretty much the same.
But, TXST has hardly won anything in the big 5 sports in their history. Plus, you're taking a big step back in diamond sports.
Once again, TV market must be in play, and we know how that has worked out for other schools moving around the g5.

The nearest conference program is 900 miles away. Their travel coast will eat away at any additional media share they receive. I'm totally okay with them leaving as long as the SBC brings in another FBS Brand and not another FCS program. The Sun Belt now has an established brand, the conference is no longer building and can be more selective at this point.

Its because the SBC paired them with ULM instead of Louisiana. ;)

Ugh screw it, bring back the blood clot.

Re: Texas State to Mountain West
Some TXST fans are mad if this is true. The Sun Belt is a strong conference. That version of the MWC is a gamble.
Nothing official has come out yet. Just a fan on X saying it's happening.

Re: Texas State to Mountain West
There is something about the MW that Texas State feels connected to.
They might have felt more connected to the Sun Belt if they had been given an I-10 travel partner.

What “established brand” would be good for the Sun Belt? UTSA and Rice won’t jump. The 3 who dumped the sun belt for cusa? Sam Houston?
I would guess if Tx St is taking this deal, it is with the assurances of a plan that will bring some closer travel partners on board.

Re: Texas State to Mountain West
If Texas state is leaving to join what’s left of the mountain west, that would explain their Lack of success in sports. They’re pretty stupid.

Of course, UTSA or Rice will not jump. Who mentioned them? The AAC Media Contract is worth at least $5M more than the SBC per program. Our choices are WKU, MTU and Louisiana Tech. All of them have had Brands that are established at one time or another and rivalries in place. WKU has had recently as much or more football and mbb success as the Cajuns. All three are better Brands at this point than programs like Sam Houston St. or Jacksonville St.

Yep.
Jest aside, they obviously don't feel connected to the SBC.

I’ve said this a few times but only the Legacy ACC schools receive the $7 Million/Year media package. The CUSA6 schools receive roughly $2.5 Million/Year.

The SBC sits at $2.5M, CUSA is below that amount at this point.

The basketball rivalry against WKU was always fun

No, they are attracted by a shiny object that is just temporarily polished, but will be not shiny soon.

No, sir. I’m talking about the CUSA6, the 6 CUSA schools that recently joined the AAC. They are receiving only $2.5M/Year while the Legacy AAC teams get the full $7M annually.
