Sun Belt Tournament action
For those that thought the opener would move along like a herd of turtles and be 21-19’ish, it is postseason baseball and anything can and does happen.
McEvoy, the senior Georgia State lefty, has done a good job of keeping the Coastal hitters off balance. This is his first start of the season. Eikhoff has also been strong for Coastal. Lefty Bryce Shaffer has been warming in the pen for a while now, so Eikhoff is likely close to being done.
0-0 B6th.

Crazy. Different kind of ballpark for those clubs as well. Who woulda thunk a pitcher's dual to open with those teams involved?

Definitely plays differently than Springs Brooks stadium.
I have seen both the Troy and Georgia Southern players taking in the action. Old Dominion as well, as they wait for their evening game with South Alabama.

Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Both pitchers are just mowing dudes down. They could be playing at Lafayette Little League and it would probably still be scoreless.
McEvoy is pulling a Blake Marshall right now

Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
JoJo Jackson’s ball just got out over the 15 foot LF wall, bounced off of the concrete walkway behind the wall, and bounded over the passing train.
1-0 Georgia State.
Pitching change with one out. Shaffer is in.

Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Georgia State takes the lead on a solo home run in the 7th. Coastal needs to find their bats. It's already late.
-
Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Of course the Ga State pitcher comes in and puts the first two on after taking the lead. Brutal
-
Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Chickens take the lead 2-1. Both runs were walked
-
Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Two walks lead to two runs. Shocking I know

I was thinking that when the Panthers ultimately went to their sieve-like bullpen, the zero would disappear.

I just figure seasons on the line, pitcher was at 91 pitches and had only thrown 50 last Thursday maybe go one more. But I know he’s been a reliever for them and 50 is about his upper limit most of his games the season. Maybe he hit a wall

Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
4-1 cc. That’ll likely do it

I would venture to say that Georgia State had not seen six scoreless innings of pitchings all season, so yes
keep going with the hot hand unless you see something. Maybe they did see something.

Boy did it. Dude with the glasses came in and gave up bombs to the first 2 guys he faced. :)

Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Who would we rather face in our first game tomorrow? I'm thinking ODU.

Agree. I feel good about southAl game 2 being a fluke but don’t want to test the theory.
-
Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
ODU going to their closer (Gomez) in the 5th. He has been their top relief arm.
ODU going with their top bullpen arms in this one, in lieu of using a starter. South Alabama and Georgia State used the same strategy today.

Re: Sun Belt Tournament action
Huge balk call. Instead of a groundout for the second out, the play is a no pitch. Stallings of ODU then proceeds to hit a two-run blast over the LF wall (well gone) to tie the game.

Or I’ll go for a 26 inning game with whoever winning. Haha

Is ODU winning better for us?

They can pitch. Runs will probably be tough to come by. But they scored exactly 1 run in the 3 games in Lafayette earlier this year.
If you mean RPI-wise, no. But at this point, it really doesn’t matter. Cajuns need to win a couple games to secure a 2 seed

Hopefully they spent some pitching tonight

As I mentioned, they threw their two best bullpen arms tonight (Bashara started and Gomez closed). Their closer came on in the 5th and finished the game.
But they do have other capable arms. Just need to play loose and execute.

Any idea why Cajuns go Morgan over Hermann tomorrow vs. ODU?
Also - GA Southern is #67 RPI. Any chance they could move into the Top 60 withOUT a win over the Cajuns - maybe just by beating JMU twice and losing to the Cajuns twice? To give the Cajuns 3 more wins vs Q1.

I am not sure we know that Herrmann can even go in the tournament. If he does, it may not be in a starting role.

Possible. Of course, it is also possible for #43 JMU to get into the Top 40 with two losses to the Cajuns. But more possible for Georgia Southern due to how close #67 is to #60..
