From Louisiana Classics to All-American
https://admin.ragincajuns.com/common...5LAGolf40.jpeg
The 39th edition of the Louisiana Classics Golf tournament at Oakbourne Country Club is sure to be a good one.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament tees off on Monday at 8 a.m. with a 36-hole shotgun start before the final 18 holes are played on Tuesday. The final round of one of the oldest tournaments in the nation will be streamed live on ESPN+ with results available through GolfStat.com.
Admission to the tournament is free and open to the public.
Louisiana will be joined by an impressive field highlighted by two-time defending champion and No. 28-ranked Texas A&M. No. 34-ranked SMU and LSU, ranked 36th, are part of a field which features five teams ranked in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings.
One of college golf's "Blue Blood" programs – No. 33-ranked Wake Forest – will make its first ever trip to the Classics, which will be played on the par-72, 6,898 yard course. Also competing in the 14-team field includes Sun Belt Conference programs South Alabama and Texas State, Illinois State, Little Rock, Louisiana Tech, Michigan, Rice, Sam Houston and TCU.
"I'm very excited about our 39th annual Louisiana Classics and just overwhelmed by the support that we get from the (Lafayette) community," head coach Theo Sliman said. "In 21 years (five as a player and 16 as a coach), this is probably one of the best fields we've seen.
"It is a sought-after event. We have great competition and we truly hope to have a tremendous support of spectators out there. It's going to be a fun week."

Not sure.
I agree that if you win a championship, it makes sense to add a year to the contract. You don’t fire coaches that win unless there is another cause.
Coaches with histories of success. Yeah, give them multi year deals. A coach like Gasco and Napier, get those guys into multi year deals. Large sample size of winning.
Coaches that have less history of success but manage to get 1 championship, be reasonable. We know one coach in particular where we got super generous.

A Quick Look at the schedule on the website shows this semester has been awful. Finishes of 12th, 14th,18th and 13th.
Don’t let last years championship cloud your judgement. It was a great week where the guys caught lightning in a bottle. But let’s look at the results all year: 7th, 13th, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 13th, 12th, 12th, 5th, 15th, 17th, loss to USA and New Orleans in a head to head match, then won the Sunbelt Championship. During the greatest year in his tenure as coach UL lost to such powerhouses as: Stetson, Delaware, Towson, George Mason, Lipscomb, North Alabama, Davidson, Abliene Christian, Texas Arlington, Kansas City and New Orleans. Better results should be expected with the resources being exhausted on the program.

What resources? Please tell me the resources UL invests in golf other than what Theo has to get himself?
I agree the results this spring aren’t what they should be, particularly at your home tournament. And there honestly haven’t been a lot of quality teams in a while under this program.
But tell me what UL does to be serious about this program. This is a different situation than basketball.

Who’s “they”? UL? You think UL said here’s a ton of money for a program that doesn’t generate revenue?

Probably an individual.
I don't know the logistics of how this works or worked out, but a few years ago the Golf Program donated a car to one of its biggest fans.
Seems backwards but he must have been special. (I will see if I can find the link.)

The practice facility was donated by a generous individual. It is immediately to the left as you enter the gate. It is state of the art and a very nice facility. I designed several components of the facility. I think Oakbourne can use the facility when the golf team is not using it (not 100% on that though).
