??? The graph is our revenues.
Without looking at a side-by-side comparison, how?
I didn't realize I could do both at the same time.
I want Louisiana to go after their guarantee money.
Boost recruiting, "Anytime any where. "
If you play a good schedule and win 11 or 12 games, you have a shot. Napier beat one P5 team, Iowa St. and finished in the Top 25 twice. He didn't use your model of playing 3 guaranteed games a season like ULM. That model is outdated unless you want to start conference play with 3 losses every season.
The model still works, beat a P5 and you will get 10 times more recognition and it can spring you into the rankings, as beating Iowa St. did. If you don't play P5's, you can't beat them and the schedule will be considered weak overall no matter what Sun Belt teams you beat. I think it's a mistake not to schedule at least 2 per year.
Yes, and he played 1 P5 in 2020 and 1 P5 in 2021, UL ranked both seasons. In 2021 UL won 12 games and lost at Texas. The difference, only 1 loss during the season and won the conference championship. That is the path, not playing multiple P5 programs on the road. Beating a P5 on the road is great, but it's not the model needed.
Yes Louisiana hit a buzz saw of energy in their first game that year with a new coach and no film.
I think Texas got as high as being ranked in the top-20 before the wheels fell off.
I'm not saying plan on playing multiple ranked P5 teams, play multiple P5 schools. There are 40 also rans every year. Mix it up.
This thread is about ULM right? I said they play multiple, sometimes three P5 games a year and that is not the model we want. You said we should "Go after the guaranteed money", is that not the same thing?
There is no guarantee when you schedule a future game with a P5 program that they won't be ranked. Sorry, it's not an exact science. Coaches get fired and programs transition. Again, if you are lucky enough to catch a buzz saw win at a road P5 game, that would be ideal. But the sure path is to beat every SBC program on your schedule, win the SBC Championship and limit your losses to the G5 out of conference schedule.
Billy Napier accomplished the greatest season in Ragin' Cajun Football history by winning a conference championship. He did it once.
ULM has many more hurdles to jump to be competitive.
Playing a tough scheule will pay dividends. Their quality win resume, already puts Louisiana's to shame simply, because the have more opportunities.
The other roadblacks they have are their real problem not their schedule.
Beat a ranked team with a media darling, surf the heck out that wave. Brock Purdy was supposedly a big deal. Media loved him. In retrospect, yes he was and is a big deal.
Look at the last OOC game Alabama lost until Texas. Constantly brought up ULM.
UL needs to figure out multiple issues quick or we’ll really be on par with ULM.
Why has this conversation turned to a money game debate? The original post shows that ULM gets almost $800k more in conference distribution.
My bad, I just noticed my soft schedule pet peeve and how ULM also gets two and a half times what Louisiana gets in guarantee money games.
In the big picture, that is just strategic and for a different discussion.
The question presented is why is ULM getting more conference money?
I wish it was because Louisiana had said "Louisiana Saturday Nights, or bust," but I know thats not why.
ULM budgets the full 3% max allowed; UL only budgets 2%.
That 1% for UL is $10-12,000,000 less than max allowed.
So when UL is over budget by 8 million.......they were actually under full max budget allowed by 2-4 million.
Why does UL only budget 66% of the state max allowable funds? No clue. My best guess is.....
LTURd"s max 3% and our budgeted 2% are nearly the same value. UL is roughly 1/3 larger.
UL.has been under budgeting for years.....they only budget for 2% of revenue vs the allowable 3%. In the past 2 decades......they were under max allowable budget roughly $150,000,000
