Just thinking of coach Stokley
I use to say about Nelson Stokley, "he was good but who wouldn't be, with quarterbacks like Mitchell and Delomme."
What I was missing at the time was Stokley's real strength and that was his, ability to adapt his game plan to match his personnel.
Coach Stokley didn't try to smash a oversized square peg into a round hole.
And because of that he was successful at a time when Louisiana was playing the toughest schedules in its history.
He also changed his kickoff strategy based on a question I asked him at Pete's. Made me feel special.
Thinking of Stokley.

I have tremendous respect for what he did for UL. He was a fantastic coach. I wish he had more support from MH, we wouldn't be where we are now. No telling what we could have done.

But without RP back then who told him he wasn't getting the support he needed from martin hall?
We need to keep every coach until their child plays for them....
Does desormeaux have any children?

Oddly, I don't think Brandon played football at Comeaux. I think he was a basketball player. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Leave his children out of the threads.

Re: Just thinking of coach Stokley
Coach Stokley was the best football coach we have had at this school ever. Period.
When I think of coaches teams obviously Brandon, Jake, and Brian come to mind but I think of guys like Willie Simms, Patrice Alexzander, Clifford Champ, Charles Pool, Orlando Thomas… We haven’t recruited guys at their positions that looked like them since.

Best football coach ever at UL? I respectful disagree.

My question was more about longevity.....
Numerous coaches at our skool have had their children play for them....
- stokley
- bustle
- robichaux
- hud
- lotief
I'm sure many others, just was curious. If you would like to post if that is good or bad, please do, I am neutral and wasnt not asking that, but have noticed it.
And usually it seems to be towards the end of their tenure.

Name me another coach who played the schedules he did and won 6 or 7 games a year. He played schedules at times that looked like he was in the Big 12 or SEC. The games he won were against Tulsa, Memphis, ECU, Colorado St and other very good mid majors. I stand by my statement.

Brandon played football his senior year. From what I hear he did not like the coach prior.
