Instructions to University of Montana to the Band
I saw this email to the University of Montana band members from the band director on FACEBOOK where the University band was instructed to not play while the team was on Defense and to not play the fight song after a score. The administration feels that Piped In music is better at getting the crowd engaged.
I suspect a similar thing is happening here. After all, piped in music is less expensive then having a marching band. I suspect that many complaints here about what the POA does or doesn't do are a result of the administration or athletic department or both. I also suspect it's a money thing with the eventual goal to not have a band.
thanks to barisaxman for finding this.
Just my 2 cents.

On a related note, the worst thing about watching our game on TV this past weekend was the Troy PA system BLARING the noise for every second between plays. Sometimes, I couldn't hear the TV announcers. This crap is ruining sports.

Those that don't know would probably say the same thing about "Respect".

Someone in Montana hates band music.
Earlier in the year their edict stated “the visiting team will not bring the marching band to the game.”

Re: Instructions to University of Montana to the Band
I suspect the band costs just about the same whether they sit there quietly or actually play
Re: Instructions to University of Montana to the Band
Now charging them for a ticket on the other hand....

I have never heard respect piped in through the speakers.

I suspect the end game is to have no band.

Lol. At the game or at all? There is probably still a music department that costs something

Right. But not all band members are music majors. Most bands offer some kind of stipend to the students. The cost of uniforms, travel, band director and large musical instruments like tubas and drums would be drastically cut. Also they would not need as much faculty to run the band.

Savoie referenced a 1903 picture and said "football has been around almost as long as the school."
Actually football has been around since year one. 1901
You know what else has been around since year one? A Marching band led by Professor Sontag.
