Martin Hall Inconsistencies
(I will try to be as PC as possible with this post. But must be said. Turbine please don’t remove)
On Saturday at my tailgate I ran into my sons roommate over on the west side in the general tailgating area. This kid is usually the first to arrive at the student tailgate and on the front row yelling at every game. I asked him what he was doing on this side. He said “ I had to leave it is getting pretty rough over there. Every year on homecoming the tailgating gets very dark.”
My kids were raised at Cajun Field and ML Tigue more field and have known their way around since they were babies. My 17 year old went to meet her older Brother and Sister at the student TG area. When she was ready to come back she called my wife to go meet her and walk with her because she was scared. She has never been scared at CF in her life. My wife and I had gone the student TG for the Buffalo game and the TX St game. It was just your typical college student fun. When my wife got back to the west side she looked like she had just saw a ghost. I asked her what was wrong. She said the student tailgate area was not the crowd that we usually see. It reeked of pot every where. The typical TG’ers were forced along the fence on the perimeter. She said as she was leaving people started rushing to the one little opening in the fence that you enter and exit because there was fight and someone pulled out a gun. There were 4 or 5 cops there in a hurry and arrested the gun toter.
Just weeks ago Martin Hall said that the groups of Greeks that are largely made up of middle class white kids could not play beer pong or other drinking games at the tail gate. But certain groups are able to openly smoke pot in the TG’ing area. Anyone else see a double standard in the rules enforcement with the group in Martin Hall?

Re: Martin Hall Hypocrites
Was student tailgating overrun by goths?
Was somebody channeling Sam Kenison and Lenny Bruce?

Re: Martin Hall Hypocrites
I cannot imagine a cop walking by someone smoking to get at someone with a beer. Someone suggested earlier that the UP should ignore underage drinking. Is there a difference?

Re: Martin Hall Inconsistencies
I heard the same thing. If it would have been any one of the Greek organizations that reside on Glenn Able Dr they would be off campus today. Definitely a double standard.

Re: Martin Hall Inconsistencies
On the radio broadcast Saturday night, Jay said student tailgating went great. Only concern was whether students would go in the game.
We tailgate immediately downwind from student tailgating. And many members of our group walked down for the parade. Nobody mentioned anything about the reek of weed or any police presence.
And just checked LPSO Jades. Nobody was arrested Saturday afternoon on weapons charges.

Re: Martin Hall Inconsistencies
Was an arrest made? Any report filed?
I see nothing on the KATC or Daily Advertsier websites about a gun being pulled during a fight at the Homecoming tailgate. You’d think that would make the news.

Monkee you have got to be loudest whistler I have ever heard. No only do I hear you loud and clear at the game. Was watching the TV broadcast yesterday and could hear you through the TV on just about every 3rd down.

That I cannot tell you. I know what was relayed to me by 3 people that were there. My daughter saw the person being escorted out.

This was way after the parade had passed. It was minutes before the game was about to kickoff. Trust me when I tell you my wife would not make up that it smelled like pot if it didn’t.

My wife apologizes.
She doesn't do it anymore, but she used to hand out ear plugs to the folks in front of us.
She won't admit it, but I think she planted a guy in front of us walking his baby to sleep.
But it is typically on 3rd down.

Re: Martin Hall Inconsistencies
What did your son’s friend mean by, “every year on Homecoming the tailgating gets very dark?”
Also, what do you mean by the regular tailgaters being forced along the perimeter of the area? Did other groups get there earlier and set up in the center or were the regulars first in and forced to move?

They chose to move due to the crowd that only goes TG once a year and don’t go in the game. It is a bunch of people that usually don’t participate in student activities who show up once a year.
Next year go the student TG the first few home games and then go back for homecoming and you will see what he means.

So no one was “forced” along the perimeter like you originally stated? They made a choice to move?
It seems like it would move this discussion along more efficiently to just say what he meant than by me waiting a year to report back.

Pretty obvious what the friend meant.
I’m more concerned about supposedly there being a gun pulled but there is nothing in the news and no statement from the university, if such did occur.
I’ll choose to hope it’s rumor/hearsay and such an incident did not occur.

At that point we were up in the stands.

Not his kind of people, maybe

Well if people are trampling through your area and have no respect for your tent call it what you want. It would be like someone setting your house on fire and you saying I wasn’t forced to leave it was my choice to leave. The way it was described to me it was like animals corralled in a cattle pen.
Well I said my part. If you don’t know what is meant by it then you’ll just have to see for yourself. I understood exactly what he was saying.

As I said earlier, I checked Jades and there was no arrest for weapons charges around game time on Saturday.

Re: Martin Hall Inconsistencies
So you want the student TG to be a party zone and let kids be kids, but heads need to roll because your wife said it smelled like pot? And now circulating a rumor that a gun was pulled and an arrest was made?
What are you wanting? UP to check for student IDs at the entrance to the student tailgate? A metal detector? UP stopping and frisking for joints/vape pens?

So going off the context clues of him making the “dark” comment and you mentioning that the regular tailgaters are “middle class white kids,” am I correct that you are saying there were more black people at the tailgate than usual?
I’m still not sure on the reason for the indirectness. Is the boogeyman gonna jump up and snag us?
