Did Theut leave game with injury, if so, any word on the extent of injury
Overuse, he is coming back from a back injury and didn't prep his arm properly. Pitch count numbers that look like very little on paper were too much for his arm. He is a victim of unbalanced rehab.
Yes / No
My guess.....my son just had his 2nd Tommy John with the Tx Rangers surgeon on Monday. so have a little experience here. Need a couple days rest to let any swelling subside. If any issues (aka pain or discomfort) an MRI will happen soon. From that point it could be minor issue and back to normal or up to a TJ.....won't know anything til then
58 low stress pitches is no where close to overuse. It's less than any recovering pitcher's bullpen sessions that would have been happening for multiple weeks prior to yesterday.
If he is in a sling, not good news
Poli is spot on
The nationwide focus on throw harder, throw harder, THROW HARDER, instead of focusing on pitch location is a contributing factor to arm injuries and the increase in hit batsmen.
Sore arms are pretty routine. So are cracking elbows and shoulders years after their last pitch.
My son played summer ball with a guy who had three and a half TJ's. Might be a record

He calmly and quickly got 3 outs that inning......only run scored was on a routine fly to left. 3rd out was a wicked 3 pitch K where he pitched backwards (2,2,1). Next 4 innings was a continuation of inning #1. Theut was in full control over his opponent all 5 innings. Even the 1st one.
His demeanor and effectiveness don’t determine if that was a stress free outing. He pitched with a comfortable lead the rest of the outing, so I could see an argument to be made there. To say the entire outing was stress free is just not based in reality. He was lights out yesterday no doubt. It’s a shame it’s all we’ll see of him this year.
Go back and watch the pitch before he got hurt. He grimaced and acted funny like something hurt. They should have come out then and pulled him. He waved off the dugout but they should have checked on him and saved him from himself
If there were no stress pitches would he be injured?
The thing is, had he not injured himself on his final pitch last night, there’s a pretty good chance it was gonna happen soon. May have been the first pitch he threw in his next bullpen session. Who knows?
Injuries happen. If anyone knew exactly when they were going to, there would be a lot less of them.
Hopefully it’s not as serious as it looked. And if it is, here’s to a speedy and successful recovery.
The kid deserves a ton of credit for an epic performance last night. Blaming anyone for his injury on his 62nd pitch of the night is just looking for a reason to be mad about something.
