Report From the Diamond Club

Preseason social was this evening. The entire team was there and introduced themselves to the crowd.

But I gotta tell you, a couple of things were said that reminded me of the past and gets me excited about the season. I'm tellin' ya, Robe is pretty fired up right now.

OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN--For the first time, six Ragin' Cajuns have been selected to wear a "C" on their uni. Deggs said they were the alpha dogs that he's entrusting this team to. (When the players take ownership, the ship sails more smoothly.) They are: Max Marusak, Julian Brock, Carson Roccaforte, Kyle DeBarge, Will Veillon and Jake Hammond.

IT MAKES A GREAT TEAM AVERAGE, OR.....I've been saying all season, the reason MBKB is 20-4 is because they are as tight knit a group as I've been around. Chemistry is an intangible. You can't see it, but if it's there you see the results. Anthony Babineaux, who has only been a part of the program for 30+ years, says this is the best chemistry he's ever seen on a Cajuns' Baseball team. Remember when last year we said, for the first time, this was Deggs' team? This is REALLY Deggs' team. They're gonna fight your ass.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CAJUN?--Well, for a bunch on this team, it's a dream come true. Two years ago when Deggs cut some guys and some left, he said he was going to recruit more Louisiana and East Texas. At least ten of the guys said this is their dream school and they've always wanted to be Cajuns. Don't think for a minute this isn't going to go a long way.

PREACH, BROTHER--Jake Hammond is a young man of faith. His teammates call him "Preach." If you go to some of Robe's old videos, he talks about the guys that in his opinion, we didn't have enough of. And, there was a specific word he used. Tonight, Preach said if two tough dudes were standing in CF ready to fight, he'd be comfortable taking any of these guys to go fight with him.

And then, he used the word.

We're ready to THROW DOWN.

Buckle up guys. This is gonna be fun.

Any updates on the corner positions in the infield as far as who will get the nod on opening weekend?
