MBB: Louisiana Selected To Play In 2022 Asheville Championship

The bracket is set for the 2022 Asheville Championship men's college basketball tournament as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Basketball team will join East Tennessee State, Elon University and Harvard University in the second-annual Championship, scheduled to take place at the Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville Nov. 11-13.

Tickets are expected to go on sale in early September via each school's ticketing department, the venue, and https://AshevilleChampionship.com

This year's 2022 Asheville Championship will air on the ESPN family of networks on Friday, Nov. 11 (ESPN+) and Sunday, Nov. 13 (ESPNU). Friday's matchups include Harvard vs. Louisiana at 6:00 pm ET and ETSU vs. Elon at 8:30 pm ET.

Sunday's third place game tips at 2:00 pm ET, followed by the Championship game at 4:30 pm ET.

"Through the Asheville Championship, we are able to bring early season basketball to the Blue Ridge Mountains where fans are hungry for quality match-ups to kick-off the season," said Tournament Chairman Dave Odom. "This region has long been synonymous with remarkable college basketball, and we are proud to be building a Tournament that capitalizes on that existing passion against such a unique backdrop."

The inaugural 2021 Asheville Championship showcased some thrilling early-season basketball games with Minnesota outlasting Princeton in double overtime with an 87-80 championship win. The Gophers opened the tournament with a close 73-69 victory over Western Kentucky, while Princeton defeated South Carolina, 66-62, to advance to the Championship game.

Look, I get it, but traditionally ETSU is a pretty decent basketball team and Harvard has had some decent years. Elon not so much. All of these teams were bad last year, ETSU had the best RPI of 162.

But man Asheville is a great town, specifically for craft beer guys. I am going to try to make this trip because it is Asheville.

Nope, I agree with you. This is a huge downgrade from last years Asheville Championship that consisted of Minnesota, South Carolina, Western Kentucky and Princeton. That consisted of 2 Top 100 RPI teams and 2 others that were 140 and 154. 2 Teams from big time conferences and 2 teams with rich histories in basketball. This year the best RPI team is ETSU at 162 and the worst is Harvard at 255, Elon was 228 and UL was 192.

So I went to the website, we get Harvard in the first game of the tournament. 6PM EST November 11th, followed by Elon vs ETSU. If we win we will face the winner at 4:30 on the 13th if we were to lose we would play the loser at 2:00 on the 13th.

Who knows those teams might move up by November 11

There is no casino in Ashenville. They have naming rights on the venue....which is questionable at best..

Asheville is not the town it was 15 years ago...Dem run, I'll just leave it at that...

I’d be surprised if we get through these two events with less than two loses.

There’s no hot seat for a coach 1-0 and two weeks from 2-0.

I think these type tournaments don’t cost the program anything. Costs are picked up by the tournament sponsors and city it is held in. Sometimes you make a little money.

We are only playing 2 games in Asheville. Win Friday and play in finals on Sunday. Lose Friday and play in consolation game on Sunday.

East Tennessee is near Asheville. They may send a few folks to the tournament.
