Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
The UL men’s basketball team is now down to four games left in the regular season.
With coach Bob Marlin’s crew mired in a slump that’s produced eight losses in its last 10 games, there are quite a few ways to view that situation.

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
“I’ve been here 11 years and 10 of those years, we’ve won four or more conference games in a row,” he said. “We’ve done six in a row seven times. We have not done that this year at all. This is our last opportunity going into the tournament.”
Seems like Bob is more worried about keeping track of useless stats and streaks over the years rather than worrying about his team turning the ball over 20+ times per game.

What's his streak in the tournament

The Criticism has never impacted him approach for years as people have been calling for his dismissal long before this season!

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
Marlin knows he’s cooked.
Media knows he’s cooked.
Fans know he’s cooked.
Players know he’s cooked and they’ll mostly all be transferring out next year. This why you see this product on the court.
The smartest thing Bryan could do would be to let Brock coach the rest of the year and into the SBC tourney. Let’s find out if he can coach. If not, we’re wasting an opportunity to propel basketball out of the abyss…

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
This guy should have been run 7 years ago. Hasn't beat anyone. Literally. Don't expect one of those "home run" hires from Maggard on this one either. This program is beyond buried. Such a sad deal. This is on the administration for letting this linger.

Brown, Awkuba, Dalcourt probably aren't leaving again as they would have to sit out. Outside of Brown and Awkuba, we would probably be better off with most leaving.

Good point. We have a chance to see what Brock can do before we even take a chance on him.

Count me down as a fan that doesn’t know he’s cooked. I sure hope Maggard has seen enough of this, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Brown and Julien are the best athletes on the team. Both are here because of there fathers.

Marlin won't give up control until he is fired. Additionally I won't belive Marlin will be let go until he is let go

They all know it's done, including the assistants. These next 2 weeks are going to be pretty ugly from a basketball standpoint. The team has completely quit on Marlin.

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
I thought Bob was retiring midseason? He will finish out the season and go 2 and Q in the tourney. I don’t think anybody has to worry about this team stringing together 3 wins in the tourney. It’s over

Do I sense sarcasm?

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
At this point, I think most are apathetic enough to let Bob finish out the season. But if there are some pros in making a change right now, I'm all ears. Again, apathy so I'm down for whatever.
The teams have overall underperformed. I know the stats with conference wins over the past X years, but what matters are regular/conference championships, postseason appearances and postseason wins. I've not been a Bob hater, but you can't argue with history.

What’s that Robeism, your record says who you are?
I’m excited already for next season!

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
It's over. It's done. The fan base has officially clocked out outside of some of the diehards. There is no question that Marlin elevated this program from when he took over in 2010. But like everything else, there's an expiration date before the product becomes stale. We are past that date, and the product we are seeing is very stale. No excitement, no energy. As far as bringing up stats, here is one. 12 years; 1 tournament final. And that was the ONLY year we won more than one game in the SBC tournament. Here is another stat: 5th, 8th, 4th, currently 9th. Those are out season SBC standings since the 27 win season in 2018. Again, this product is stale.
At this point, it may be better to cut ties in order to save the program from having to take MORE time to recover.

Wait until we move from 12 to 14 teams chasing 3 days in March for one bid.
Most of the administrators have checked out. SBC administration has made it abundantly clear we’re a football league. Jettisoning LR and UTA should make that obvious. Conference should of played favorites when each of those had their runs to pull others along.

But WE should be fighting for that one bid. We have the money, fan support, and resources necessary to be that program to pull it off.

We will never get that dream of being invited to the BIG 12 with the state of the basketball program. Time to re build it.

If that's true keep Marlin and cut his salary to 100k a year. Invest the extra 500k in other sports.

That might be the plan…lol. Or hire a guy on the downside of time like Cliff Ellis.

They have cut his budget substantially already.

I would be ok with that since I know where we stand with basketball. As the highest paid coach in the belt that Is currently not the case.

Re: Bob Marlin says outside criticism isn't impacting his approach
Here is the guy that I would like to see as our next Head Coach. This is his salary at Nicholls.
Nicholls State University approved a contract extension for Austin Claunch on Oct. 22, 2020. It extends his contract through April 30, 2024.
Claunch's base salary is $130,000 with an annual vehicle allowance of $4,200.
Some of the bonuses that the extension includes are a $10,000 bonus for winning the Southland Conference Tournament, $5,000 bonus for winning a conference regular-season championship, $5,000 per NCAA Tournament victory, and $2,500 for winning Southland Conference Coach of the Year.
The contract includes a $65,000 buyout if Claunch leaves Nicholls State for another program.
His previous contract at Nicholls State paid a base salary of $95,000 and went through March 28, 2022.
