That’s solid, hopefully we can hang on to all of them. We will need them if this ship will be righted next year. Need some age coming in. Kind of hoping toro takes a redshirt this year for selfish reasons, although i think it would also be in his best interest to come back healthy next year as a junior
No their stat line pretty much matches the win loss ratio.
Don’t agree that positives are frowned upon.
Generally speaking the term is struggling, and they struggled last year, and without an exceptional group of pitchers would have struggled since Gunner and company freshman year.
It’s always been something in the last five years. So we’re somewhat immune to promising futures. Let’s hope and see how it actually works.
Those regional and super regional were based on an imperfect team. All three relied heavily on two aspects of the game. In fact we wouldn’t have gone to the tournament had we not won the tournament. So that’s why I’m not giving them a pass.
The decline started and was pretty clear during those years. They were considered a success individually but are part of the decline of the program. Just like a regional appearance this year would be a success for this year, but until this program starts trending toward regular at-large possibilities, 2014 is a page in a history book. It's not being miserable. It's being realistic and seeing that while a turnaround within a season is good, the goal should be to come out firing and continue for the whole season. That's what makes the difference between the elite program we want to be and us right now.
With that being said, it's South AL week. Screw those guys. Let's play to our potential and send them home ____ed off.
So a decline started after one of the greatest teams in college baseball history left? You don’t say? We had all freshman on the mound and returned a handful of reserved and made a damn super. We made a super regional but we weren’t perfect..ok, keep waiting for perfect. Keep waiting for 2014 again. Just keep never being satisfied with anything. Maybe some of you should have enjoyed those years more instead taking it for granted like we reached a mountain top and were never going to have to climb again. I’d gladly take that 2015 imperfect team that won one of the most exciting regionals I’ve ever watched. It must be amazing being some of you how perfect you all are at everything. Particularly sports and coaching. When you say stupid ___ like making a super regional isn’t good enough because the only reason we were there is we did this, it’s stupidity. Plain stupid. They did what they had to do, that’s what good teams do. You know how many national champions can look back at their seasons and find where if this or that doesn’t happen they are never there? Every damn one of them
In 2015 we would not have made it had we not won the tournament. But we did. So it counts.
IN 2016 WE HOSTED A REGIONAL. That wasn't based on four days in May.
Of course there was a decline after 2014. We may not see 2014 again.
Geez Louise..................
The 2014 team might be one of, if not, the greatest college baseball teams to not make it to Omaha.
I don’t think it would be realistic to just expect another 2014-type season like it’s a dime a dozen; but I think what we saw in 2016 is more of a realistic expectation. That year, we started the season a little slower than expected, but then we put it in hyperdrive come conference play. And we were able to win enough games in the conference tournament to put us over the top with our RPI and helping us get a host regional spot. Plus, our season ended in the last game of the regional at the hands of the eventual national runner-up.
I think the 2016 season is a type of season that we can strive for and realistically achieve.
Sorry that some of us analyze the game a bit differently than you. If you look at offense, we have DECLINED every single year since 2014. We maintained success for a couple years because the pitching staff that we had those 2 years (Gunner, Marks, Guillory, Harris, D-MO) won games for us. After 2014 our run production dropped over 25%. Today, it's just short of a 50% drop over time and we don't have anything close to the same staff.
Last year, we had close to 50% less extra base hits with more strikeouts than 2014. You usually trade MORE extra base hits for strikeouts.
That's why you see us flirting with a below .500 record. Can't explain this any more clearly. Many of us saw this coming regardless of the flashes in 2015 and 2016.
No one is expecting 2014 every year. What we do expect is the valley to gradually rise each time. We shouldn't be dropping to 2012 levels again.
Making a Regional is a successful year and it doesn't matter how you get there.
