Acadiana Advocate named official news partner for Cajun athletics

When I moved to Lafayette almost nine years ago, one of the things I was most excited about was being in a college town again.

There's the hustle and bustle of student life. The sense of school pride is on display everywhere. In a college town_— and Lafayette is no exception_— the university is a distinctive part of the culture; it's woven into the soul of the city

The article says Learfield/IMG made this 3 year arrangement with The Advocate to increase our exposure and brand to Acadiana, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and the rest of the state. Be happy, this is a huge step up! Told you guys IMG would work some magic...sure Foote had his stubby fingers in this as well...another dark day for the Advertiser...

There were told by Dr Maggard and Patrick Crawford that was the case, and now they have agreed to our Brand Name of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, or Ragin' Cajuns. The news division will still refer to us as The University of Louisiana @Lafayette as the Advertiser does as well.

This was going on before Foote was hired, he pushed them once he started submitting articles. The conversations started with Maggard and Crawford, commitments had to be made before it moved forward. The Advocate made it clear they were ready to work with UL after the hired Foote and a number of other media staff from the Daily Advertiser.

That is great news. Even replacing the UL Lafayette headers with UL Ragin Cajuns would be a major improvement. Louisiana would be even better. And, I hope they add a header for UL in the New Orleans edition.

I don't know what the agreement is for Baton Rouge, Northshore or New Orleans markets. I do know that it will be as requested in the Acadiana addition.

So the Cajuns beat writer is going to write the article for the Lafayette Advocate and if it is going to appear in the Baton Rouge, Northshore or NO editions, some little minion will go in the piece and add a couple of additional L's and Lafayette's?

After many years of refusing to subscribe or even pick up the advocate, looks like I will subscribe to the online app version. I always said if they refer to our university in a way in which the school wished I would consider.

Can live with that. Didn’t T-Joe say athletics is our front porch? Just got to have Leerfield clean up the petty Lafayette references.

Timing is right if legislators are looking at redoing higher ed. Another validation for the Rustonians to add to their “lawsuit”. That ship done sailed and offloaded already.

I will go on record as not being a fan of this deal.

As bad as the Advertiser has been (recently) with a negative going through the motion writer, they have covered Louisiana Athletics for 119 years. No agreement needed.

This agreement with the Advocate will lead to less and less coverage by the Advertiser, and regarless of how, much their distribution has slipped, they are still by far the largest newspaper in Lafayette.

This is NOT how you grow a fan base, its how you shrink it.

Forging agreements that will lead to less coverage overall is a bad move.

Checked on-line again today. UL-Lafayette in the header for Acadiana and Baton Rouge and nothing for New Orleans. You don't make a major announcement and roll this out half-assed. All headers need to be changed to UL Ragin Cajuns and it needs to be added to New Orleans, otherwise what exposure are we getting there? We are still being branded as UL-Lafayette as the first reference and that needs to be corrected by Learfield.
