Re: May 1 softball rpi rankings
No movement for us from last week. I expect us to stay in that position up until regional selections. Maybe move up a spot or 2.
Anyone ahead of us that would possibly not be able to host a regional? All look like normal host sites.

I did not expect James Madison to move up in the rankings despite defeating North Carolina twice during the week. I'm not going to say they have solidified their position to host (committee will have to show me they are fair to G5 programs), but they are definitely in a good position.
Alabama has 4 critical games this week (@ Ole Miss tonight, 3 @ home this weekend with Auburn), they are in very real danger of not hosting.
Utah should move back into the top 16 with 3 @ Oregon State and 3 @ home against Washington.
Brigham Young, I think, is in a very interesting position. I'm sure the committee would love to have another West Coast team that is not PAC 12 to host a regional and prevent sending PAC 12 teams from traveling so far.
Right now, I see 2 primary factors working against the Cajuns hosting a regional:
1. The committee has always underseeded the Cajuns except the year they were top 8 rpi ranked.
2. The Cajuns have played 35 home games (to 10 road games + 3 @ ULM). The only teams with more home games are Coastal Carolina (37) and Hawaii (36). The committee will not reward that.

Re: May 1 softball rpi rankings
Cancelling the App State series ended up working out pretty well for us. Didn't cost us anything in the conference title race and saved us 3 bad RPI games
Re: May 1 softball rpi rankings
It appears that our 3 losses to Southern Miss and Bradley, all at home, are killing us.

Those aren't good losses obviously because they were against teams we should beat. But they don't hurt us any more than any other losses. Home/Away doesnt matter in softball RPI and they aren't low enough to warrant an RPI penalty
It hurts not having many Top 50 opponents in general when you are trying to get in position to host.
By comparison, last year we had 21 games vs top 50 at selection time. This year, we're at 8 (though it will go up a few with conf tournament). For bonus purposes, you exclude conference games but that's still 14 non-conf vs top 50 last year vs 5 this year
Last year we had the #5 non-conf SOS. This year its #159

Ironic you need to play on road and play well on road to proove you can host

Have we ever lost there? It will suck having to sit out on that berm. Not a great place to catch a softball game.

You may be right....
If it does happen I would love to have a video camera on Beth Torina when that announcement is made. Better yet a camera of her later that night curled up in a little ball screaming WHY ME!!!
Re: May 1 softball rpi rankings
I love it when LSU has to beg their fans to show up so they won't be outnumbered at home.

This has been my concern. If LSU does host, it will be one of the lower seeds ... and I think there is a decent chance the Cajuns are slotted there. The good news ... there are two other regionals considered bus trips for the Cajuns (<= 400 miles) ... College Station and Waco (Tuscaloosa is 403 miles and they are not a lock to host). Texas State will likely travel to one ... and the Cajuns would be eligible for the other (San Marcos is 403 miles from Norman). Texas A&M would be ideal as they will be a middle national seed ... possibly Top 8 and probably no worse than 10 or 11.
The committee will need to find a slot for #2 seed Ole Miss. But unless the Cajuns host, they are considered a flight.
The CSM bracket is not fully optimized. With that field, I do not see the Cajuns in Kentucky.

Thanks Brian. I would much prefer to head back to Texas. That 13 hour drive to Lexington would be tough.

If they do, I shall see you there.
