Once again cementing our place as the #2 athletic program in LA.

Re: CBS has UL at 44, overall
The only mid majors above us are Boise, BYU, and San Diego State. BYU of course has tremendous resources due to the Church of Latter Day Saints while SDSU is in a large city. Boise of course is the major university in their state. We are by far the top mid major athletic program in the south. For that matter, we top all mid majors in the Midwest and East Coast as well. Last year we were in the 30's, so over a two year period we may be tops in the nation for consistency. We need to advertise these accomplishments as much as possible to every media outlet we can find. I would say that is critical for areas like New Orleans and Houston.

Next year we should be in the top 30's bottom 20's..
Every sport should get better

While every sport should get better; it is possible that we do not get better results. Our opponents are not standing still, either, and we can not count on having good fortune smile on us as much as she has the last two years.
But I fervently hope she does, and that you are correct.

Re: CBS has UL at 44, overall
IMO VO, the only question about results is the big ? at pitching for the softball team. IMO there may be a significant drop off. Do not know about the true freshman last year Trahan. She did well in the early season, but the big girls took over as their health improved.
Football having to replace a veteran quarterback, and all conference lineman will be interesting.
baseball poised for another fantastic year like 2014. Basketball loaded for the first time, men and women.

I think our pitching in Softball will be fine to at least get us into contention at a regional. Supers or WCWS? Not so sure.
Women's hoops is not "loaded", but we do have some talented and hard-working girls. I am hopeful that one or more of the incoming 'bigs' can help immediately, and that the Fields girl, who was our best 'big' last year at 5'11", continues to develop. We also need an athletic shooter who can defend. Okde can shoot, but is a defensive liability against athletic guards.
We have a chance to be really solid in all 5 major sports.

I see it differently. I don't think "good fortune" shined on us the past two years. I think we did average damage for what we had in our arsenal. I believe our football team failed to meet expectations (and the new defensive staff should help remedy that deficiency). I think Michael Lotief's health wasn't fortunate for our softball program. I think our MBB and WBB program has just started their climb. Our baseball program earned everything they got the past two years... and with these unbelievable young pitchers... we're one good batter from kicking serious butt. In fact, if "good fortune" (RCAF executive directorship) actually begins to assist our athletic programs... we'll be tough to deal with for some time.

I think you will see the bigs are as advertised, and that makes us loaded. We may not have a single big star, but we have several very solid ones that can rotate and play fast paced all game to limit other bigs legs, and lungs.

I guess I have just spent too many years suffering from Cajun Disaster Syndrome to be able to look at what we have returning and deduce that we will be really good in everything. I am cautiously optimistic that we will be, but CDS has stricken me so many times before when I felt hugely optimistic, that the best I can now manage is cautious optimism.
BTW, I think you are right. I fervently hope that you are.

I have been told that the local 'big' is at best a project. I have not been able to find out much about the girl from the New Orleans area. The girl from Dallas Skyline is 'only' 5'11" or so, but is athletic, and was a really solid contributor to the Texas 6A State Runner-up team. I am hopeful that she will be another Fields type player.
We signed a JUCO guard to help with outside scoring and perimeter defense.

I think we're operating on a much better platform that doesn't really allow CDS. I'm not saying we won't have setbacks. But, in looking at the specific programs in question... I see a cummulative rise forthcoming. It doesn't mean that we will see an across the board postseason equal to our last two years... but that won't be because we hit a peak and don't have the program core to repeat or better. Our diamond sports clearly had a combined incredible past two postseasons. But of the 5 sports in question, I see overall improvement ahead.

Of UL would have this kind of success 20 years ago, you would be seeing the Cajuns in th Big 12...at least.

Well... we WERE having similar success until the original Ray-Ray in Martin Hall killed our invitation to the Metro Conference [now CUSA] when the membership included Louisville, Cincinnati and Memphis.

Re: CBS has UL at 44, overall
VO is that rumor or facet? I do not recall ever getting an offer from the Metro.

I was told that the Metro was set to vote us in, and that some heavy hitters at Tulame had been approached by Herbert Heyman [Schilling? one of the Herbs] to discuss the vote. One thing led to another, and the Tulamers offered to secure the Tulane vote in exchange for a rather sizable donation.
They reached agreement in principal, but Ray told Herb that he had the vote locked up, and Herb should not waste his money.
Long story short, Tulane both voted against us and lobbied others, and we failed to get the necessary # of votes.
This story may not be true, but it has been repeated many times in many circumstances and has never been refuted by any of the principals, to my knowledge.

I totally agree with this! We've come a long with FB, but have much further to go. I agree with u on the MBB & WBB, and softball. And men to the baseball.....we will be nothing short of phenomenal in the next 2-3 years.
