Oh boy. CIT tournament.
Participation trophy.
Something else for RP to _____ about. Yayyy.
That's the other point. The big boys, with their deep pockets don't buy into the 3rd level tournament abet Colorado. Money losing proposition. Has nothing to do with being miserable Reb, simple business decision. No money to be made in a tournament the nation doesn't give a flip about. Risk of injury on top of it all. Risk outweighs reward. But at the end of the day, I'd go to games here.
FWIW, hoax in CBI, Georgia Southern either not invited to any or kept their money in the bank.
Negative. Negative. Negative.
Incarnate Word. It's like making the Dance as a 25 seed.
Everyone gets a trophy. LMAO!
What is this T BALL?
I guess this is just a generational thing. Being I attended and graduated in the 70's, I just place a different value on post season basketball.
I'll admit, D1 basketball has blown up team wise since ESPN and the Big East came along. And I'm from the school of thought that Michael Jordan was the best and worst thing that happened to basketball in the last 50 years. It's a one in a million chance we will ever be what we once were.
But common sense simply tells me that an in season(s) home and home with a quality team that costs us money will drawn more and be more meaningful (RPI) than a game against a SLC team. That point is being lost. It's a Southland Conference Team...on the road. Any other day you guys trashing me would be up in arms over this match up in the regular season (see McNeese, Northwestern State threads this year). But the same match up in a 4th tier tournament makes it ok?
I'm not trying to trash anyone.
I'm not going to pretend this tournament means all that much. I don't think anyone thinks it's equivalent to the NIT or NCAA. But it's more basketball, more practice, more instruction, and a chance to accomplish something. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
The alleged reason we have such a ____ty regular season is we cannot afford to buy good games. This game is bought. Nobody is trying to dis the team, nor their desire to compete. Me and some wonder why we have money for this and not that. Regular season so much more important than this.
This is epidemic in the SBC by the way non division one games. Another reason to adios.
Other then the fact that you want to argue for the sake of argument, everything I stated was factual. Again, I don't care if the game is played or not, it is irrelevant and no money will be made for the conference or the program. Now for someone that has constantly come to this board and stated this program can't afford this or can't afford that, I find your statement about not losing money even more entertaining. Thanks again!
Your reading comprehension could use some work.
I never disputed any of your facts.
I never said they wouldn't lose money. The Cajuns lose money everytime they step onto the basketball court.
I don't understand why you feel the need to go out of your way to crap on a tournament that our basketball team is playing in.
First, the quote of mine that you replied to said I am not a fan of this tournament. We are associating our program with the SLC's of the world. However, getting an extra week of practice is supposedly a big deal in football, so I don't see how anyone can say this same logic wouldn't apply to basketball. With that said, if we host a game, I will be in my seat.
Second, being your so concerned about profit on postseason appearances & being you dodged my question about how much we made on the N.O. Bowl, I found this gem: http://www.theadvertiser.com/story/s...oney/20957089/.
Are you suggesting that we don't play in a bowl game next year? Because you want facts, here's some: Every year we've been in the N.O. bowl our ticket sales have decreased to the point where we were lucky to break even this past year. If we're lucky enough to be considered for a bowl game next year, FACTS are showing that even less people will attend. Are you suggesting that the football team skip a bowl game being odds are showing we will in fact not make money??
You want to compare the audience size that will watch the CIT to a bowl game on a national television and the value to your program? You earn the right to play in a bowl game by winning and meeting requirements to qualify. You don't earn the right to play in the CIT, its a buy in tournament. We played in this tournament after winning 15 games several years ago. Your comparison is not even close.
My short term goal was to have a RPI of 48 or better. Be in the conversation for an at large. I was told this is't possible. Seems it is.
Perhaps you enjoy sucking in s sucking conference?
Additionally my original comments were about YOU Marlin supporters coming unglued after he lost to BrokeBack U and NWST. At that time I told y'all to calm down. Bobby Boy has reaced his personal Peter Principle level.
I was roundly critized by the True Belivers. Better to be 23 &12 going to NCAA. Seems you can be good and do both. Today y'all spinnig how nice it is to buy yet another post season game. Gee Bobby be going to post season three out of his first five.
Did any mid majors get an at large bid besides Wichita State (a non football school)? If there were, it was few. That does not mean the goal of competing for at large bids is not one we should attain to and it is not impossible. However, it is very difficult as evidenced by the very few schools who did get them. My support for accepting the bid has nothing to do with the staff good or bad. The result Saturday was disappointing and nothing will change that going forward. My view is that the tournament does provide the opportunity to continue to develop the team going forward, just like playing in a minor bowl does for a big school.
I've been vocal Marlin supporter by saying he deserved opportunity to build off last year. Now that the season is done and has 99% of all his contributors coming back next year, if he doesn't win 20+ D-1 games and NCAA bid, time to pack his bags.
As far as this tournament, no one in their right mind should consider this a true postseason appearrance.
I comprehend enough to know that you constantly play butt hurt when you don't like what someone else has stated. There is nothing of value in playing this game, especially traveling to a SLC program. There is no prestige for this program in playing in the CIT and spending money when you tell everyone you can't afford to buy home games against mid-major programs each season. You aren't being rewarded for your season playing in this tournament. And you play this game at the risk of losing to another SLC program and being 0-3 on the season. That certainly won't help this program in recruiting either. I understand Coach Marlin's reasons for wanting to play this game, but it brings no prestige to this program.
This is a different arguement.
You have only discussed dollars and cents in the university's pocket. You, not me, said we should not participate in any postseason that doesn't bring home the bacon. And I showed you proof that the NO Bowl did not make UL any money.
Edit: Should note that I'm not trying to take away from the fball team and beating a good Nevada team. Strictly discussing finances
