Predictions for how rest of season will play out
This is what i think will be the final standings for the Sun belt and bowl eligible teams.
Troy 9-3 (8-0) Bowl Game
ULL 8-4 (6-2) Bowl Game
Arkansas ST 6-6 (5-3) Eligible
MTSU 7-5 (5-3) Eligible
ULM 5-7 (4-4)
FAU 4-8 (3-5)
UNT 4-8 (3-5)
FIU 1-11 (1-7)
WKU 0-12 (0-8)
Or so i hope it plays out like this.

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
since you have Troy 8-0 in conference I see you think we will lose to them, what other game do you think we will lose?
-
Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
I'd really love to see some type of campaign or something for the next 3 home games, especially homecoming and the Troy game and try to get them as close to sold out as possible.
If we could sell them out and get 3 wins that would be HUGE!!

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
The way i see it is Troy will win out conference but get a few close games
UL Laf- will lose to Troy(even though i hope we win out ;) just being realistic) and Ark St/MTSU game since those are 2 tough road games for us but i think we can get by the rest.
Ark St- will bounce back from a slow start winning 5 of their last 7 games to .500 their conf losses are : Troy, ULM, North Texas/FAU
MTSU- will lose to Miss St. but still fair well in conference losses : Troy, ULL, Ark St
ULM - with the loss of their QB their momentum will fall and so might the rest of their season
losses: Troy, MTSU, ULL, UNT
FAU - will get a couple more respectable wins and even hold off UNT
losses: Troy, MTSU, ULL, ULM, Ark St.
North Texas- losses: Troy, MTSU, ULL, ULM, FAU
FIU- losses: everyone but WKU
WKU- losses: everyone but watch for upsets
anyone can beat anyone in this conference but i find the teams with better defenses will pull through, id love to see us beat Troy and win out the rest of the season. but we shall see!

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
Ragin Waldo,
If you are a Cajun until you die, why do you use UL and UL-Laf?

I was going to comment on your post... but when I saw you referred to the Cajuns as UL Laf, I stopped reading.

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
How awesome would it be for THE CAJUNS and Troy to win out the rest of their games and then the Conference Championship is decided in the SWAMP the last game of the regular season!!! How much more awesome would it be for that game to be sold out, I'm talking biggest crowd ever sold out!!!

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
Guess I don't get hung up on the name game as much as others. Seems as though a fair number of current students (to include recent graduates) have little to no problem with UL L, etc. Because that is what it's always been to them. I'm an "old" USL grad; but do my best to say UL whenever referring to the cajuns. My neice graduated a couple years ago and always says UL. Doesn't make anyone any less a supporter of our university because they are comfortable with the UL L name. JM 2 Cents.
P.S. You can tell when someone is "ULLing" us to death just to get under our skin. This doesn't look like that at all.

UL, Louisiana, or Cajuns...I love your prediction though.

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
Just don't see Troy running the table to go 8-0 in conference, I do see us with 2 loses in conference, one to competitor and one as a slip up, ending up with 4 loses and a great season....let's hope the slip up isn't WKU and/or homecoming!

Not to turn this into a name thread but this is why I think it will take at least a generation or two to get even all of our own fans to just use "UL". Then you will start to see maybe even other schools near us slowly switching. The name change will take 50+ years for everyone to start calling us whatever we want.
I'm done now, back to rest of the season predictions.

Agree. Heck, I even had to re-edit my post because the use of UL L was edited to UL, so it didn't make sense!
Let's just play some ball! ..O..

I'm with you. The conference seems very balanced (Weak). I would not be surprised if 2 losses still gets you the SBC title.

My prediction is we win against WKU. Other than that I don't know. Let's take one game at a time. We are not good enough to be thinking down the road.

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
My best guess, UL will win 2 of the next 3 and sit 5-3 going in to the meat of the schedule.
After that, I hope we can take 2 more.
IF we can win the next 3, it could get really fun.
I can see this team winning anywhere between 6-9 games. Any win total > or = 7, Bustle gets an extension and a huge raise. If we can somehow win 8, I think the local recruiting tide turns and we start getting kids like Ambrose, D. Johnson, etc.
But as RC 90 said 1 game at a time!!

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
It's good to see so many optimistic predictions.
However if we play like we did against North Texas we won't beat anyone except WKU.

This would be the scenario, we as cajun fans, all look forward to because to be in this position would mean we are easily bowl eligible and likely already at 7 wins. However, what is most frustrating to me is that the only things that control whether we have a packed house or only 18-20k in the swamp are the weather and how/where LSU is playing on that given day. That is sad.

I would agree with that. I think that was a bad game for UL and they will play better defensively going forward. How much better is the question.

Only a few short years ago we were concerned with having the minimum number of fans in Cajun Field to remain eligible for D1A ball. We have never gotten over the .500 mark in 7 seasons under Bustle, with the exception of one 6-5 season... in the SBC. We have not seen any postseason play. Lafayette is an elitest minded city in Louisiana. Those who participate in college football, outside of the very loyal Cajun fan, do not derive the short term entertainment return, nor any hope of a long term entertainment hope that a loyalist gets with average results in a weak conference. Weather and LSU are perfectly adequate excuses for these people... and the way a free society works... they get to make their own excuses and live how they wish. My whiny ass doesn't count... and no one else's does either... thank goodness.
Realistically, I never expect a larger than 15k ish crowd on any weekend home game that does not include a BCS opponent... an ancient rival... or a team that brought at least 8k of their own fans. Greater than 15k amazes me. But, I'm sick of hearing how proud we are of the greatness of that small but honorable crowd. That is the talk of eunuchs. This is college football in the south. I sure wish we had the old crowd that had a huge hairy pair. Even more good looking women would show up if the old crowd was back. The eunuchs can still play in the grass and keep the children from getting run over... but they cannot run our football program.
RC90 is correct about predicting our season. Absolutely dead nuts on. We are in no shape to predict anything. Our football players need to fight WKU today like WKU just spit on their moms and kissed their girlfriends. We have to start being brutal football execution machines and stop acting like kids at a wishing well.

Well when i first started a young 8 year old fan they were considered USL Ragin Cajuns, and thats what i know them as, but now they are ULL Ragin Cajuns, if Louisiana had only one University then yes it would be us, but the reason why i dont make offense of a name of the University is because its factual, we are in Lafayette. I guess i dont know the deep background of this argument, but i know its gay that ULM had to follow and take the UL name but i dont see or have the desire to make a name give me a sour face. I will still go for the RAGIN CAJUNS. If they ever try to change the name then im sure that would make me angry. but to say we are UL like we have always been UL since the beginning of the SLII opened?? that would be nonsense and has no value to show anger towards because it was NEVER officially just UL.
so after that drawn out explanation that is why i dont make a big deal about it being ULL. That wont change how big a fan i am for the Ragin Cajuns.

Re: Predictions for how rest of season will play out
Be prepared R.Waldo, you are going to get educated on what happened about 1984 with the name change.
