The fact that we had possible 3 pick 6's dropped is aggrevating. Those would have been big! We just have to make sure we capitalize on those opportunities if Nebraska gives them to us.
If Bentley catches that pick 6, they game is totally different. It's 14-10 at half, we have Baton Rouge in a panic, and Les Miles where he doesn't want to be - under pressure. OC stays aggressive and the defense is energized.. man, coulda, woulda, shoulda.. I hope we play those pr!cks in 3 more years.
Coulda woulda shoulda.... let me add one
No one seems to have mentioned this one... On the a&m@br pick that they took to the 15 or so which was followed by a personal foul thus putting the ball inside the 10.... Our receiver is running free... Masson just missed him... the media seems to say the a&m corner "broke on the ball"... thats not what happened... if masson hits him we have a first down at the 35 or better... Instead they have a first and goal... minimum 10 point swing....
got to make the plays of course but the competitiveness of the game is not reflected in the score..
That's the most gutwrenching issue the team had following the game. Usually, you would have had much more complete domination in a game of this ranking disparity. Instead, 90% of the game was an even match, with a handful of game-changing moments that we failed to capitalize on. The team will not accept any accolades for a performance that did not result in a win. That is the only way I want "them" to think. But, our active fanbase just broadened. They may not be showing up yet... but they are starting to intentionally read about our team, news of the next contest, and mumble decent things about UL at the office watercooler.
We have a lot of people that think college football is a switch and we just need to "turn it on". That is not true. It is a throttle and every incremental increase pushes fuel in the engine and every time horsepower is displayed, it counts. The LSU game, overall, had a positive effect. Just to have a handful of us recognize how close the game was, is substantial.
A lot of people don't like their name tossed around on these sites. I respect the opinion of an individual here in Baton Rouge who follows highschool and college football in the state. He said that UL finally got an opportunity on the most important stage in this state, and people with football sense saw what we have. He said "Bustle has finally turned the corner". I told him that I think we are sniffing around the edges of that corner but it will take a bowl to authenticate it. The willingness of our fanbase to associate deeper ($) with our program hinges on a post season appearance.
I life long friend of mine from a small town, with an LSU complex, just informed me of some interesting news. After years of me poking and prodding for him to give you UL a chance, he finally has taken me up on the offer, after the a&m@BR performance.. He's going to Tivo the Florida-LSU tilt and attend his first Cajun game, the conference opener against North Texas.. even more interesting, this guy is currently in the middle of an internship at the SAdvertiser..
On a similar note.. so-so fans are beginning to fall hard for the Cajuns.. An ominous group of my tailgating buddies, who usually stay at the site during the game, have been texting me all week - "dude, lets go to lincoln"..
A few years of this effort and some good luck, and we might just wake this sleeping giant..
Do you know anything about football? A 2 TD swing means, take away one from the other team, add one to your team. So with him and my point, you're looking at a MANAGEABLE 14 point game, not to mention that the approach, pressure levels, etc would have been totally different..
No one is suggesting that we definitely would have won the game, but what were are saying is that the longer you keep the game close, the better of a chance you have to win the game.. Doubt creeps in for the favorites, underdog starts to believe it can win, etc, etc..
1More said it right.. the game was evenly matched for a large portion of that game. A few game changing moments occurred, and LSU capitalized - Cajuns didn't.
Not to rain on any parties, but the what if game goes in both directions. Every team in just bout every game I'm ever watched had just misses on both sides of the ball. I don't worry bout them cause it gives me a headache, but we didn't "capitalized" some too.
With all due respect, but I was much more worried in that Troy game we had last time than at any time in the game Saturday nite.
Good luck with The Big Red!
You should have been more worried during the Troy game, they took advantage of LSU mistakes. They gave the game to LSU in the 4th quarter.
Had the Cajuns taken advantage of the two missed pick 6 opportunities then the game would have had a different outcome. Weather that meant a Cajuns upset or a close LSU victory no one will ever know.
But to say that LSU didn't convert when they had the chance is not true. I have watched the game twice already and will wacth it again tonight, LSU scored about as much as it could. The Cajuns on the other hand did not convert when they needed to.
I don't know about Jay, but I would hope this board would be more upbeat if we beat LSU. Bustle and Co have recieved a fair amount of flack for their game time decisions.
98% of the people here thought we would lose. Most people here thought we played OK. Why does this bother you?
No one is suggesting that we would have won the game....
What we are doing is evaluating the state of OUR team.... We played purportedly a top ten team... although I dont think that is true... and are looking at the fact that we were not blown away as we have been in the past... how we competed and how missed opportunities made the score seem like more of a blow out than it was...
Missed opportunites are just that... Mistakes WE made.... we know that... but on a competitive level the distance between us and a&m@br is shrinking... nothing more..
So crawl back into your tigggeer cage and lick your paws...
Haven't watched it again-but while we are talking "what if's" it seems like before Masson settled down it was like a tip drill several times early in the game especially w/UL deep on their side of the field and Jefferson missed some wide open receivers deep.
In any event, props on a good game and good luck this weekend
I LOVE the phrase with all due respect because it's a get out of jail free card to disrespect!
Of course you were more worried during Troy. They were KICKING YOUR _____es!!!!!
Everyone here thinks we played a fairly good game and that it FELT closer than 31-3. I think any rational fan on either side would agree.
We will have to disagree on that one. I'm pretty sure there was a fairly open LSU receiver who had gotten behind your defenders but who was over thrown and a couple more near int's or at least balls bouncing that could fit into the what if mode.
Hey, it doesn't matter. My only point was to suggest that "what ifs" bounce both ways. imo
"They gave the game to LSU in the 4th quarter."
Agreed and that was my point.
Masson had a good game and I am sure will have a great career at UL.
Jefferson had a good Chick-Filet bowl and is showing growing pains at times with only 5 starts under his belt. I am confident over his career he will do just fine-and before its all said and done will be one of the better QB's in the SEC.
If you wish to feel I was disrespectful, so be it. I think my history shows a fair amount of respect to all things Cajun. I don't see disagreement and disrespect as the same thing, but each to our own.
I thought the Cajuns "played a fairly good game" as well.
Good luck the rest of the way.
Ok Ok... LSU is the greatest....most fabulous... the #1 university throughout all of America.....They took it easy on us... they let us stay in the game because of the kindness of that great American... that seer of all that is true and wonderful in mankind... yes Les Miles...We know our place... we know we are not deserving of being on the same field as LSU... we thank you from the very bottom of our heart for letting us touch our cleats on the holy grail that is Tiger Stadium and ask that perhaps one day if we are all good little boys and girls that you allow us back... just once... and we promise until then to continue to know our place and not create any stir or suggestion that we are anything more than just a flea to your elephantness...:h::h::h:
Happy??? Now go away:hot::hot::hot:
All that sarcasm cause I said in my opinion "what ifs" bounce both ways?
Take your "We know our place" to someone else...in my opinion ones place is where they make it and not where anyone else might think it should be.
When/if Turbine decides my input is a negative factor on his forum, all he has to do is to ask me to "go away" and it's done. I'm afraid that, to this point in time, IHateLaState doesn't have that kinda creditability with me...is there another screen name you go by cause you might have better luck with that one. ;)
Have a good weekend.
