Just heard that formed UL assistant and current Bethune Cookman HC, is stepping down to become the new HC at Alabama State.
Seems like a lateral move to me, but anyone have some insight?

yea,
he wasnt a very good coach.
i played for the guy while he was here. he isnt a very good coach. not very knowledgeable of the game.
see above post.
i played for the man directly
Not sure of his football knowledge but his record as a HC is enough to say he is a good head coach. Being a head coach is more than X's and O's. Barry Switzer admittedly won championships without coaching, he managed his assistants.
Or he is a better HC than position coach and is smart enough to surround himself with good assistants and let them do their job. I understand your direct perspective but 46-14... He is doing something right. Maybe his gig at BC was the perfect fit and he might fall flat on his face at alabana state but I think 2nd was the worst he ever finished.
and he is not going into a bad situation, ASU was 7-5 overall and 5-4 in connference this season, so the cupboard is not bare.
That was good enough to be 2nd in the SWAC East.
Bethune is a private HBCU with limited money. Its tough to get money for coaches and athletes there. They also do not have a home staduim. They play in a high school stadium that belongs to the county.
At Alabama St which is in Montgomery has a better recruiting base, more money to spend on players and coaches and new 30k seat stadium and the SWAC is a step above MEAC football.
That is correct, the pay was also better for his assistants. The word was Jenkins was Southern's #1 target to fill their vacancy two years ago, but they hit a snag in negotiations at some point and they hired Dawson Odums. Contrary to previous post Jenkins is a very good football coach and a hell of a recruiter, keep in mind he was hired away from UL by Greg Schiano to go to Rutgers when they were pretty good a few years back.
you are correct he was hired away, right off the coat tails of fenroy's 4 1,000 yard seasons.
i stand by my opinion. the guy did not have football knowledge. he was helped by those around him.
Somebody didn't get any playing time and is ____ed. Isn't that how coaches get hired based on the success of their players, head coaches are judged by wins and losses and assistants on their recruiting ability and success of position players. Read any coaches bio and they mention prominent players they have coached.
From what I saw Jenkins was a hard azz on his players. He and coach Mason yelled non stop. Mason was just funny when yelling but Jenkins was brutal on guys during practice
Okay, cool it's good to know that having a personal relationship or connection to something makes you an expert. I will go with the fact the Jenkins was a hell of a recruiter while at UL, good position coach, got hired away by a Top 25 program at the time, has a successful record as a head coach, and just got another head coaching job. But take DMS's word for it....lol. So where are the rest of the guys he worked with on Bustle's staff, please let me know.
no, i like old school, and some times thats what it takes to get a player to get it through their head.
i think your son can attest to that. i do believe jenkins thought he was old school, but some of the decisions made in meeting rooms made no sense at all, and we had to go back and change them because they made no sense and put us in a very bad position on the field.
I am sorry I asked about Coach Jenkins.
I just noticed he got a new HC gig and this got out of hand.
