Hudspeth says Cajuns offense has to ‘get it going’
BOISE, Idaho — There weren't a lot of positives in Louisiana's lopsided 34-9 loss at the hands of the Boise State Broncos on Saturday night. But Ragin' Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth was positive about this: He's going to focus on making his offense...
Re: Hudspeth says Cajuns offense has to ‘get it going’
He needs the offense to mask his awful defense.

That worked perfectly fine last year ... and partially for 2012 as well. They haven't been good on defense since 2011.

Statistically, this isn't true. Our PPG average given up on defense has gone down each of the last 3 years into the mid 20's which is respectable although not great. This year's defense may skew that statistic quite a bit since we are staring 35 PPG given up right in the eyes but we've technically been better the last few years which has allowed us to win more of the close games. The problem on defense is not generating a pass rush of any kind and setting the edge allowing opposing backs to run free on the outside. This, however, has been a problem the last couple of years and I few it won't get better any time soon.

No, the 2011 was good, or at least on interceptions. Didn't they set a NCAA record for pick 6 or something and then Ole Miss beat the record later in the year?

To be fair to the defense, we gave up only 13 second half points and the last 3 came with like 2 minutes left. Once we started bringing pressure we looked a lot better. I'd like to know a breakdown of yards by half as well. I thought Jevante Watson looked pretty good at corner.

Statistics lie. Our PPG given up by our defense going down over the past 3 years was due to an ever increasing rushing attack that gobbled up clock and kept other teams off the field. We've also had some really good special teams play and won the field position battle. You are right about our defense... but to say this defense has gotten better... is not true. We have individual heroics at times... but the Stewart and Willis defensive schemes pull a huge vacuum.
Where we actually aren't too bad is in the red zone. Once we've run out of room in the backfield... our LBs and safeties play up... we can no longer give WRs a cushion... we aren't all that bad. You'd think our coaches would say, "damn... we don't do too bad once we get up in opponent's grills... exemplified by our red zone stances... we just suck when we drop back in this pathetic prevent nonsense... let's stop this ____ and start playing red zone stances up and down the field!".

Yeah they seem raw but I liked the effort and energy.

Poor Posey was being picked on all game...the Boise QB when scrambling seemed to lock on him and run straight at him knowing he would miss the tackle.

So you got that figured out do ya? with evidence to boot? And you also know the coaches probably aren't going to listen to a word someone like you has to say even though you are absolutely correct with pretty much irrefutable scientific evidence to back it up. and people wonder why fans get so frustrated. I love fall. At least it's getting cooler outside.

Last year our stats were so good because our opponents sucked ditch water. Even our money games were against the underachieving bumbs of the P-5.
