The running back competition will be very intriguing. Have we ever had running backs of this caliber competing for the starting job?

Wallace was a bust. I remember players likeTony Hills telling us during fall camp that Fenroy was stronger and better. He was real quiet, but good. The rest was history.
Spikes did not want to compete when Coach Hud came in.
Back to Wallace, 685 yards from 06-07. Dude was serviceable at best for a hyped three-star recruit. Also remember we almost lead the nation in rushing both of those years so there is no excuse. Dude was a bust.
If you look at his ypc he was almost as effective as fenroy. His 685 yards were based on limited snaps. He was as good as any rb we have now.
We will know "as good" after their careers wrap up.
On the other hand you are 100% correct, with two 1000 yard rushers in the lineup there are only so many touches to go around.
In my view one thing that stunted D.W's career was having to sit out spring football in (I think) 2008 to focus on academics.
If I am right (it may have been 07) the head start or momentum he gave the other players, was something he never recovered from, touches wise.

Hey Bustle didn't play him or Gautier---think they were very very good----I will never forget the screen pass that Wallace took to the house in the Spring game---That was talent---Fenroy couldn't break the long one because of lack of speed ---His quick/zero pro career showed that!!! BBBBBut thought Fenroy was a damn good back and don't mean to take anything away from his accomplishments!!!
That was usually on plays where the defense was tackling the one without the ball. Those boys used to fake me out. Broadway has the same knack for faking the handoff
Boomer if you are slow you don't get 50+ yard "TD" runs much less lead the nation in that category by faking someone in the backfield.
Will you get gains and sometimes big gains? Yes! But over half a football field will expose any version of slow, and nobody was catching either Fenroy or Desormeaux.

So how many +50 yard tds did Fenroy have????
Enough to not be called slow
Believe Fenroy had a 97 yarder against ULM in that huge game he had.
Just for info purposes, I looked at the stats from 05-08 for scoring runs, which I'm sure don't include all long runs that didn't go for touchdowns. It was easiest to look up without having to go by a play-by-play review of every games. Below is the stats'.
05' longest TD run was 25 yards
06' longest TD run was 18 yards
07' longest TD run was 43 yards against North Texas
also had a 42 yard TD run against ULM
08' longest TD run was 89 yards against ULM. Also had 80 and 52 yard TD runs against ULM
also had 69 yard TD runs against Kansas State and Kent State
Those long runs were the times he was caught from behind because of his speed handicap!!! lol Actually it was coach Bustle that mentioned his inability to take it to the house!!!
Could we see 2 Former Carencro Bears from the 2011 Championship team to play together at UL???? From what I heard is that DE Jacoby Briscoe is enrolled in summer school & RB Alex Johnson will be there in the fall ....
I'm Alex mentor so we talk almost everyday of the week. He said if need be he would play FS, but right now he wants to play RB
