What time should UL football games start?
I have spoke to a lot of people that aren't too excited with 4 p.m. football at "The Swamp"
I miss playing football at night. I always liked 7 p.m. games at "The Swamp".
4 p.m. is just about the time I am relaxed in my tailgaiting spot.
Games ending at 7 p.m. leave a void.... Games ending at 10 p.m. carry on to downtown.
It's also hot as heck at 4 p.m. not as bad at 7 p.m.
What are you guys thoughts?

Re: What time should UL football games start?
beleive it or not, but I heard from a pretty rliable source that the reason for the 4pm kickoffs are to save electrical costs and not have to run the lights as long. I hate to admit it, but I can beleive some BS like that from our administration.

Guys, this is the time that Coach Bustle wants the games to start. The guys get up, eat breakfast, have a few hours to kill, eat lunch, head to the field, get game ready. Much less time to lose focus.
Much less time to have to kill. This is the way it was done at Va. Tech.
We will all just have to adjust.

But I don't think it will help attendance at all. First of all it's flat out hot and if you sit on the student side you have to look straight into the sun through 3 quarters.
I think football coaches can be a little too into their routines. I'm sorry but it doesn't make a difference if the players have 2 hours to kill or 4 hours to kill. Preperation is most important mon-fri during practice, not the day of the game. At that point you have done all you can do and a start time won't change that.

I agree in a way but if thr players and coachs want it then who are we to say anything. Also why not use the advantage that our players play in this heat everyday.

If it means more wins at home, I'm down with it. I'm going to be there regardless and if we continue winning at home the attendance will rise.

Start time doesn't have nearly the impact on attendance as the won-loss record.
As far as this poll goes, I like 7 p.m. games in September through early October, then 4 p.m. from Homecoming on.

I was against 4 pm games but now I LIKE EM. You get to the Field at 12 or 1 pm , start partying , eat and visit friends. game starts at 4 pm ( depending on lightning, ha), the game is over at 7 or 7:30, you eat again and visit. If the game is over at 10 pm , you don't have time for anything afterwards if you are a baby boomer. Staying up late ain't my idea of fun anymore. The game at 4 and over at 7 gives one time to enjoy some time afterwards and the have time to clean up and it not be 11 or 12 pm. Hey, thats how I look at it.
Now the bad side of 4 pm is that so many students are probably still working and can't make the games. One has to make arrangements with boss or co-worker to switch. if there is a will there is a way.

HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO BEAT THIS SUBJECT TO DEATH? :hot:
They could play at 9am or 1pm or whatever and I would still be there!..O..
There is no time that will accomodate everyone!
If the 4pm start is something the coaches and players want then give it to them. .~.

First of all, no one likes change. We have a comfort zone and when someone takes us out of it, we get all whiney about it. Some folks need to read the book "Who moved my Cheese."
The subject of the coaches wanting earlier games has already been mentioned.
Yes the sun is a factor on the west side of the stadium. But, how many people stay home in Lincoln Nebraska in November when it's ten freaking degrees outside?
If we are going to attract the average joe out there, we need to be consistent in our start times. That's another reason for 4pm kickoffs.
Those who want to attend will find a way to attend. Not everyone can have everything they want.
Don't have time to tailgate as much? Well, if you're off on Saturday, start earlier. And, there's plenty of time to tailgate afterwards before hitting downtown late.
You have the right attitude. The game is important to you.
If it's important to the others, they'll quit _____ing and find a way.

the main reason for the 4 p.m. games is not to save money its to get the opponents in the heat and humidity......... right now in michigan its ice cool and cold......those boys no nothing about humidity....... I talked to my brother in northern ohio and he said it is cold and no heat at all..... thats close enough to EMU........ bring em to the heat and let em suffer......just another edge for the CAJUNS.........~. .~. .~. .~.

Re: What time should UL football games start?
except for the sec majority of football is played during the day. I much prefer 4pm games b/c it does give you time to party after. I usually don't remember 7pm games b/c i have been tailgating since 10am and i usually have had way too much to drink by7pm. The heat is pretty much gone for the most part. I do understand how aggravating it is to have the sun on the student side, but thats why they make sunglasses. Also i just moved to the otherside and as soon as the time changes that won't be much of a problem anymore. People who bring their kids to the game don't want to get home at 10 oclock and then start bathing the kids and all that crap. If i remember correctly, except for last year we usually play at 4pm. personally i think 500 would be best. If the coaches and players like it who cares what we want. And the whole saving money thing has got to be crap b/c if we are worried about the light bill we are in trouble. The lights come on before it gets dark anyway. I think people around here just would'nt have a complete day if they didn't complain about something, whether it be that we didn't beat them bad enough, we didn't throw enough, the sky was too blue the weather was too good etc etc etc. If you don't like 4pm then don't go, show up at 7pm for the post game party.

That is a bit pollyana.... I get off at 3PM and I am a one man show on Saturday so no switch is possible with the lack of parking at Cajun Field I parked at Lamson Park 5 cars away from being at Blackham. Walking to the stadium got rained on finally made it to the tent long enogh to here 4:45 kickoff.
I guess if Bustle wants 4Pm we are stuck with it. I will be making a 2PM decision on attending the game. It's just like baseball at 6:30 at night. I have tickets for about 25 Home Baseball games last year. Wasted Money......Well not wasted, but it makes you think before you buy.
Oh yea tell the folks who cook the roasted peanuts I don't think it was Mr Vic that they were not cooked.

Re: What time should UL football games start?
I wouldn't mind a 5pm start time. I'm a student and the student side of the field sucks at 4pm due to the sun. If it hadn't been for the overcast skies on saturday my retinas might have been burned. At least 5 oclock games, the sun would soon be going down and it wouldn't be as bad. But whether the games start at 7pm, 4pm, or 6am I'll still be there. Even though it's not my prefferred time to view a cajuns' game, there's no sense in moaning about it. Let's just be happy that we have 6 home games this year instead of 5.

Re: What time should UL football games start?
I think there is nowhere I would rather be than in Cajun Field watching the Cajuns, but let me tell you that sitting on the student side in the sun and heat is not a good thing. I shave my head and let me tell you, my head was sun burnt for the next three days and I am a dark person. 7 pm would be nice!:ms12:

I had to leave at halftime, walk out to the truck, and rub ice and water all over my head and down my shirt to cool down. 8 hours of beer and a pint of whiskey, mixed in with all that sun isn't a good thing. But, you better believe my fat ___ was back by the 2nd half kickoff.
Not to mention, my red shirt had several irregular wet spots on it from the water and ice, which got quite an irregular look from the ticket lady, like I was some sort of drunken idiot who had poured beer all over himself. She was almost right.

I have 2 daughters at UL. Both had to work till after 5. They wanted to go. They are the lowest on the totum pole and cannot get off.
With the current state of our program, we should be doing everything we can to get the most butts in the seats as possible. 4:00 does not do that.
The school to the east starts at 7. Do they know something that we don't?

For every daughter that has to work til four, there's a family who wasn't going before because it kept their little ones out til 1030 or so.
Now they can go to the game, kids can have a good time and be home in time for baths and a normal bedtime.

So BOP this sounds like its going to be permanent correct? So the only way we'll get a 7pm game is if ESPN says hey we want to televise your game, but you'll have to move it to 7pm.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure 7 p.m. on Saturday night isn't going to be the Cajuns' time slot when ESPN does call. Maybe another night, but not Saturday.
