2006 Football Predictions (merged)
Now I know the world of college football only views our games 3-12 as winnable this upcoming season. But for those of us on this board, whom all know much more about Cajun football than the outside world: Do y'all think our first two games are winnable at all?
I personally think aTm is winnable, and LSUAM can be close, and not entirely impossible to be winnable.
Just curious..........

Re: Does anybody..............
In the "real" world, the first two games of the season are realy tough. But Bustle has this team believing in themselves. Our offense is going to be hard to contain and we are going to score. LSU is a very good team, but the Cajuns wil play tough. I win is possible, if things fall our way.
Texas A&M is also a very good team, but the Cajuns can play with them.
The team that worries me most this season is Houston. They have one of the best teams in recent times. We can beat them ...and I think we will.
We have the ability to beat OR lose to anyone on our schedule. Focus wil be very important this season. We have to learn to be champions. The pressure to win this year is the most in the D-1 era.
See you all at the New Orleans Bowl!

Re: Does anybody..............
We have a legitimate chance to beat Houston. There is possibility that we catch aTm off guard and beat them. LSU has a strong team and they will come out fired up for the first game of the season. I just hope we keep that game respectable and can get our players out of BR healthy. 1-2 is realistic and expected for those 3 games. If we are 2-1 we will have a special season.

Both games are winnable(with all the right bounces) but I think we will be 0-2.

Re: Does anybody..............
first of all, all three games are winnable. anyone can be beat.
I think that we can beat LSUAM, i just dont think the atmosphere will give enough boost for it to happen, there is no reason why we cant keep it close though. I think that we can show up and play hard against aTm, maybe come away with a win. as for the Houston game. I am calling a win here. I think there will have to be a game that stands out this season besides conference and this at least, is going to be the one. will we go undefeated in conference? dont know but its very possible.
my call, cajuns 9-3

Re: Does anybody..............
ok i hate to be the pessimist here but there is NO chance the cajuns win either of the first 2 games, i mean come one look at who they play and where they play. There is a 1 in a billion chance that they beat LSU at LSU in fact they have just as much chance as beating them as they do making the national championship game, as for A&M i think its about 1 in a million for that game, now i know all you die hard know it all football fans will say im just a stick in the mud, but be realistic, its all good to have some confidence but lets not get unrealistic here.

Re: Does anybody..............
I would say ULL has a change to beat Texas A&M. I wouldnt put any money on that one happening. But things arent going well in Aggie land plus they have a new QB so anythings can happen. Playing at A&M definitely doesnt help. But Francione is on the hot seat so you never know.
As for LSU. As kindly and gently as i can put it. NO
They just cant win that game at LSU. If they stay withing 31 i would consider it an accomplishment.
As for Houston thats another good team with a lot of new players with talent. Would be an upset but definitely a winnable game.
Im just ready for baseball...

Re: Does anybody..............
aTm is a game that if we catch them off guard I believe we can win but I don't think we will.
LSU is a national title contender as much as I hate to say that and I don't think we will come close to winning. I think we put 10-14 points on the board but lose by about 28.

Your exactly right!
We are all cajun fans here, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY IN HELL! We will even come close to LSU or A&M. we might put 14 pts up in the 4th quarter when they have there reserves in. Even though A&M lost some key players, they will be fine, they have top 25 recruiting classes every year like LSU does. Let's get real these 2 games are money games, with the exception of Houston, which is a very capable win. We will run through the sunbelt, but with a win against Houston, that will put us on the map for a possible conference change in the next few years.

Re: Does anybody..............
My request to Bustle this year over 2002 is this.
Don't put LSU in a position of where they are trying to pitch a shutout. If we are in field goal range and have a chance to break the scoring drought, KICK THE FIELD GOAL. Just get on the board first and let the rest of the game fall where it may.
Here is what I think it will take to win either game.
OFFENSE
Average 3.8 yards per carry.
A successful short passing game.
ZERO turnovers
DEFENSE
5 turnovers
SPECIAL TEAMS
A fantastic kicking game.
A fantastic return game.
1 or 2 blocked kicks

They will be better at QB this year than they've been in a while. Soph Stephen McGhee is a stud. Enjoy watching him this year.

aTm is vulnerable. They are not the national power that they once were. I am not saying that we have a good chance at beating them, but we last time we played them in 2002 we had 10 turnovers and they beat us 31-7. All of their points coming off of our turnovers, including two fumbles in the Aggie red zone in the first half. We are vastly improved from the days when Van Cleave was under center. If we get beat I don't see us losing by more than 14 points. I am a Cajun homer to be sure and forever an optimists when it comes to the Cajuns. I just feel that we are going to be that much better this year and if aTm doesn't show up when they play the Cajuns, they are in for a rude awakening.

Clutch...got to disagree with your "LSU is a national title contender" statement. They lost 3 starters on both the OL & DL not to mention their top 2 RBs are coming off of major surgery...plus @ Florida, @ Auburn, @ Tennessee....I just don't see them competing for a national title this year. That's not to say they won't be very good b/c I think they will be...just not contenders.

Re: Can we win the first two......
Both environments will be hostile if you will, but aLm will be more so! aTm will have the Soph at quarterback, I give us a better chance against the aggies due to their recent past performances as a program.
aLm I agree with a previous poster have lost three lineman on each side of the ball and have two running backs comming off injuries. Also the aLm game is the first of the season for both clubs, depending on who is not available on both clubs and weather conditions, who knows.
Louisiana over aTm by 7
aLm over Louisiana by 9

Don't just look at them when considering a national title contender. Every team in the top 10 has some holes. Yes they lost alot but so did Notre Dame (Can you name a backup QB there is Quinn goes down), Ohio State (the defense has to replace more talent than anyone in the country), West Virginia (Schedule is favorable but are they really a contender), USC (Leinert, Bush, and White...gone), Oklahoma (Last year they were very young...are the mature enough yet), Texas (Lost the heart and soul of the team in Vince Young), Arizona State (Can they stop anyone on defense), Auburn (They ended last year on a sour note against Wisconsin and are probably the most complete team in the country)
There is more parity this year than I can remember seeing and I might be going out on a limb by saying this but any team in the preseason top 15 has a legit shot. No one teams really stands out like Texas and USC last year. Expect a lot of surprises. I honestly do not want LSU to come close to winning another title but with all the parity at the top they have a really good chance.

Re: Can we win the first two......
I just had a dream last night that we beat the Aggies! .~.
I guess that counts for something, right?
Anyways, I'd feel much better about our chances against TAMU if it were the first game of the season. Typically, players come out of the gate more fired up for the first game. I just hope we're not too demoralized and beat up after Baton Rouge.

Re: Can we win the first two......
come on guys we are just starting to get our program respectable, lets not get to big headed here. I don't see us getting within 20 pts. in both games.

I'll agree about LSUA&M, but not TAMU.
I don't think we'll win, but it's no stretch of the imagination to stay within 20 of them.

For all of those who think we can't beat aLm, just remember Appalachian St. and Oregon St. It is possible folks.

think 2004 aLm vs troy, if i remember right it was 24-20. we lost to troy that year 10-13. and we werent nearly as good then as we will be this year. not to say aLm wont be either, but that was coming off a national championship
im not saying it'll happen, but there will be no beatdown this year

Re: Can we win the first two......
I dont see more than a 5% chance to go into BR and take down the tigers its simply a stretch at best , would be a very solid effort i think just to get in and put up some points and have a good showing in defeat. As far as the aggies go i would say the % chance to winning is upwards in the 25% range. Aggies will have a soph QB true but he is a talented guy and will give the cajun D some headaches, now the aggies running game could be a step behind and if we can force them to be one sided on offense maybe we step into some turnover and our offense shoots it out for a close win. But again with good showing could be a very positive start even if the record book shows 0-2 , and if it shows 1-1 or 2-1 well i agree with what someone said before " will be very special " . You are very right it would be very positive. To many people are lookign at these games. Houston and Eastern Michigan are much more important games because thoughs are the teams that we are compared with. We won't be in the same sentence as a BCS school right now but we need to work on winning the OOC non-bcs games. The Sunbelt plays money games and I understand why but if the Sunbelt is going to step up a level every team in the conference has to win some games against non-bcs ooc opponents.

I like your percentage chance angle. You are one Sharp Square.

Re: Can we win the first two......
Well i guess it is time for the first post of the year. I understand what all of yall are saying but know this. we are not going into baton rouge with the mind set of ohh lets try and see what happens and come out healthy. we are going down with the attitude that we are gonna kick ___ and take names and just take it one game at a time. last year when we focused on to much we all know what happened. But when we sat down and said ok this is our opponet and there is nothing else to worry about but them this week we had results. so i guess what i am saying is i am posting us 1-0, not 2-0 or 0-2,or 1-1, but 1-0. Yes we will have our hands full with LSu but we want them and we are all stoked and working hard to prepare ourselves for that game and that game only then when that game is over we will prepare for our next game. All i ask is that we have as much support as possible, does anyone know if the band is going if they were that would be great and we need as many fans there as possible and for those of you who have been to an LSu game you know how the visitor comes in so the more fans we have in the satdium and at the baracades when we walk into the stadium the better.
