It’s time to brand a classic clean L
Cajun faithful, it’s time to part ways with the double stacked Ragin’ Cajuns as the official symbol of Louisiana Athletics. It is now time to go all in and brand with an L on all helmets, hats and symbols used on TV/Marketing. The Fleur-de-lis needs to stay and be a secondary symbol…but the stacked Ragin’ Cajuns needs to be phased out. Once we move in this direction, we can create tradition for centuries to come.
With the renovation of Cajun Field, the new turf needs this L at the 50 yard line. Anywhere we have the stacked Ragin’ Cajuns, replace it with the L.
I felt this topic deserves its own thread in hopes to catch the eye of the Athletic Department.
The war is over…It’s time to take the next step.
Re: It’s time to brand a classic clean L
Take the capital L from the standard University logo and superimpose the school Fleur-de-lis in the middle of it. .~..~..~.

Ragin Cajuns is the brand. Needs to be going forward. Not a big fan of the hot wheel font. Cajuns In script is what id like to see as our main logo. Or maybe an updated version of the ragin Cajuns stacked logo. I don’t like the L much. The interlocked UL is better too me.

But it’s technically not UL. We as fans need to actually move away from saying UL and just say Louisiana. IMO, it’s L over anything else.

Lamar
Liberty
Louisville
Lafayette
Off the top of my head. Teams with an L and some shade of red in their colors. Ragin Cajuns or Cajuns separates us from not only every other college but every athletic brand in the world.

I think branding is fine as is. Louisiana athletically, UL Lafayette academically. UL used in common/local vernacular. Logo-wise, FDL/Ragin' Cajuns/Louisiana are fine for now.
At our current academic trajectory, I would not be surprised to see the interlocked UL in an official capacity within the next 20 years.

In that case Texas and Tennessee would get mixed up by everyone.

Does not mean we can’t go forward with the L. I think now is the perfect time to strike.

I kindly disagree only because I feel like we've finally had some brand stability and acceptance. Do we change our fight song? Do we stop doing UL hand sign? (LSU has recently adopted the L hand sign since about 2019)
There's also no historic use of a single L logo, unlike LSU that used to have baseball jerseys with a single L.

Can still do the hand gestures and Fight Song. The sooner we go down this road, the sooner it will be normalized. 100 years from now the L will still be used and nobody will remember when or how it started. Every major “State” name University uses the state initial as their Logo…why not Louisiana?

Using the "L" would put us in good company with almost every "University of" in the country. It takes care of the name law. Additionally, if needed one can easily change the hand sign from UL to L. And, several universities have the same letter reference and are in the same conference, but use a different font to distinguish their brand.
A few examples:
N - Nebraska
N - Nevada
A - Alabama
A - Arkansas
A - Arizona
F - Florida
M - Michigan
M - Minnesota
T - Texas
T - Tennessee
W - Wisconsin
Re: It’s time to brand a classic clean L
Every second we spend trying to brand Ragin Cajuns is one less second we should have spent branding Louisiana.
The moment the name change became official, the branding strategy should have changed to reflect that. 3 decades later, we still have it backwards.
The branding hierarchy should be:
1) Louisiana
2) FDL
3) Ragin Cajuns
So, I agree with the thread starter. It is WAYYYYYY past time to embrace further branding of Louisiana.
