Former UL O-Line Coach Ron Hudson

<blockquote><p align=justify>LOUISIANA La. - Ronald Hudson has been added to the University of Louisiana's football staff and will coach the Ragin' Cajun offensive line, head coach Rickey Bustle announced Monday.

Hudson, who previously served as offensive line coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville, replaces <a href="https://forumeus.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=27838#post27838">Mike Gibson</a>, a member of Bustle's staff for the past three years.

While at TAMU-Kingsville, Hudson coached three all-conference players including Division II All-American Roy Stroud. TAMU-Kingsville finished the 2004 season with a 9-2 record and won its 26th Lone Star Conference title before losing in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

"I'm excited to have Ronald join our staff," Bustle said. "He'll bring a lot of energy to our coaches and to our offensive line. Hiring a high-quality person is a priority for our program, and I believe that we have succeeded in doing just that. He brings a multitude of experiences from a diverse background."

Prior to joining the Javelinas in May 2004, Hudson served on the football coaching staff at Texas-El Paso. He was the tight ends coach for two seasons beginning in 2001. Hudson was then promoted to defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator in 2003.

"I'm very fortunate to join the Louisiana football program," Hudson stated. "The staff here has put the program on a winning track. My hope is to continue that progress and be a part of building a Sun Belt champion."

Hudson is a 1987 graduate of Muskingum College, and started his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Louisville in 1991. He has also been at Illinois State, Urbana University, The Citadel, Lenoir Rhyne, Kent State, Southeast Missouri and Bowling Green.

It does give an alternative meaning to when "pigs" fly.

Hudson, a three-year veteran on Bustle’s staff, has paved the way for the Cajuns running game to post unprecedented numbers.

The Cajuns enjoyed the sixth-best rushing offense (251.6/gm) in the nation in 2007 and became the Sun Belt’s first ever 3,000-yard rushing team (3,019). The team averaged a Sun Belt-record 5.6 yards per carry en route to producing two 1,000-yard rushers. UL ran for 250 yards or more in seven games and scored at least one rushing touchdown in all but one game.

“Coach Hudson has served as a leader in the role of assistant head coach,” said Bustle.

“Our offensive success, coupled with his knowledge of our personnel, made Coach Hudson a great fit for what we want to do offensively.

“I expect him to be a forceful leader for our offensive players and staff.”

Last season, Michael Desormeaux became the 24th quarterback in NCAA history to rush for over 1,000 yards. His 1,141 yards were the 20th most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season in NCAA history.

Tyrell Fenroy posted his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and is only 84 rushing yards shy of Brian Mitchell’s school record. Fenroy will enter the 2008 season as the only active three-time 1,000-yard rusher in the nation.

Hudson tutored an offensive line in 2005 that helped set a then-school record with 2,797 rushing yards (broken in 2007) and 34 touchdowns. The Cajuns ranked seventh in the nation in rushing in 2005 and 11th in 2006. UL has scored 77 rushing touchdowns over the past three seasons.

His linemen have earned seven All-Sun Belt honors in three years, including four first-team awards, and center Chris Fisher was named a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News in 2006.

I think this may be the best solution. Bustle's job is on the line, who in their right mind would have joined this staff for possibly just one year for a low salary.

I think he'll do a great job. He's a great guy, and the boys like him and respect him. That can make a world of difference when trying to push them to do thir best.

The move makes sense by promoting from within and bringing in someone who can energize the passing game, which is what Coach Bustle has been trying to do for a couple of years now. By Bustle's comments in the past, he wants more balance and he wants someone that can bring our passing game out of the basement. I like the pickup because he's a young, successful guy from the lower ranks. If, for whatever reason, we are looking for a new head Coach one day, that is the recipe I would like us to follow. Young successful coach from the lower college division (like div 1AA) that is hungry and eager and will do whatever (legally) it takes to become a winner.
