Please put special emphasis on the weeknight games where we used our two best pitchers.

"what happened this year is that we were 1)winning, 2)playing better teams then alcorn state and bethune cookman, and 3 were in the middle of a race for a championship. I think our attendance will be up next year with the teams that are coming here and the overall talent level of this class could have us looken for a shot next season too."
The time has again come for fans to come out to see the Cajuns play no matter who the competition is. I enjoy marquee games as much as anyone, but the best team that has played in the dome this year has been the Cajuns and they appeared 11 times plus the 2 exibitions. That should be enough reason for fans to show up.
I more then anything want this to happen, and I want people to go to games for the cajuns, but in most mid-major markets, if your not playing decent competition, Fair-weather fans wont be there. I want people to be there every game more then anything, because it creates an intimidating enviroment, but the facts are that UL still has a huge amount of Fair-Weather fans, and unlesss the 3 things I mentioned are happening, the Fair-Weathers wont come out.

LAFAYETTE — It’s kind of like being on the short end of the score in the Super Bowl. All of a sudden, everyone asks if it’s possible to bounce back.
When Louisiana lost its season finale to Western Kentucky, 69-66, last Wednesday before a national audience on ESPN2, it decided the regular season champion in the Sun Belt Conference.
It also snapped a 21-game home win streak for the Ragin’ Cajuns and obscured a season of achievement as they head into this week’s Sun Belt Tournament.
“We beat a Top 10 team at Mississippi State, we won 20 games and we repeated as champions of the Sun Belt West Division,” coach Jessie Evans said. “That’s pretty good.
“I always see the glass as half-full, not half-empty. I accentuate the positive. If we give 40 minutes, playing the best that we can possibly play, we’ve proven we can get the job done.”
The Cajuns, who won 10 of their last 12 games, were looking for plusses after the disappointing loss to WKU, which is the heavy favorite as host of the Sun Belt Tournament.
“The only positive is that we go back to the drawing board and work on the things we need to improve,” Evans said.

“The Western game was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the good out-weighed the bad, but we still had too many turnovers, took quick shots and missed free throws. We weren’t able to keep them off the boards.
“In the second half, we just did not make enough good plays.”
The Cajuns seemed too excited for the game, abandoning smarter plays and giving in to the hyped scene attended by a season-high 9,121 fans.
Considering the way they played defense on the defending champions in the first half, the Cajuns could have had a bigger lead than the 7-point, 35-28 edge they enjoyed at the break.
“I was disappointed,” Evans said. “I thought we at least should have been ahead by double digits. We should have had a more significant cushion.”
For a veteran team like WKU, which starts four seniors with sparkplug sophomore point guard Patrick Sparks, 35-28 wasn’t much of an obstacle. Within 7 minutes, they had knotted the contest at 42-42 and it was a battle from that point.
“We’ve got to do a better job of blocking out on the boards,” said Cajun senior Khadim Kandji. “We were kind of soft inside. We just didn’t play physical.”
Western Kentucky out-rebounded the Cajuns 43-30, benefitting from damaging fouls called on Cajun center Michael Southall. He fouled out with 5:20 still to play and was only able to be on the floor for 26 minutes.
“We’ve got to do a better job on the boards,” Evans said. “Our players were taking a step back upcourt, expecting a shot to go in, rather than going for the rebound. We tell our players that they have to play every shot to miss, and that’s something we’ve gone over with them.
“I’d like at least 25-35 touches inside per game, and we didn’t get that. Not only Mike, but our inside players in general have to work harder to seek the basketball. He has to continue to be aggressive in wanting the ball.”
When the Cajuns are effective in feeding the middle, they can work a better offense. Evans noted that his inside players average some 5-6 assists per game.
There are other such situations to fix, but a 20-win team operates from strength.
“We got it out of our system Friday and Saturday in practice,” said Evans, whose team plays Saturday against the Arkansas State-Denver winner from Friday’s feed-in round.
“We don’t concern ourselves with who wins that game,” Evans said. “We know that in order to make it to the championship game, you have to win two games. I don’t have a preference.
“Obviously, we have to recover from the loss to Western Kentucky and try to get back on track.”
CAJUN CLIPPINGS — The Cajuns are 10-1 on Saturdays, 1-0 on Mondays and 2-0 on Tuesdays this year, the days they would play in the SBC tourney to reach a rematch with WKU in the finals ... the last time WKU hosted the Sun Belt Tournament in 1994, Michael Allen led the Cajuns to a 78-72 win over the Hilltoppers in the finals ... no host team has won the Sun Belt Tournament since 1991.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Louisiana hopes to play the percentages this week in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are 8-4 in the event under coach Jessie Evans, and have the top winning percentage in tournament history of .680 (17-8) since joining the Sun Belt in 1991-92.
Marty Fletcher coached the Cajuns to a pair of SBC titles in 1992 and 1994, and Evans brought the program back to the top in 2000 — all three earning the Sun Belt’s automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
The Cajuns won more games away from home (10) than any team in the league this season, including 8 on enemy floors and a pair of wins on neutral courts, so they seem well-equipped for the task at hand.
Their quest begins at 5:30 p.m. today against Denver at Western Kentucky’s E.A. Diddle Arena.

Winning today puts the Cajuns in Monday’s semifinals, with an eye toward the championship game on Tuesday.
“Any time you’re on the road, you hope you get the opportunity to play anyone for a championship,” said Evans, whose squad has to guard against the natural tendency to look ahead to a possible title game rematch with WKU.
“You also have to look at the history of the league. No host team has won the tournament (since 1991).”
The Cajuns found out today’s foe on Friday, when Denver roared back from a 35-30 halftime deficit to oust Arkansas State 82-76. Senior guard B.J. Pratt poured in 34 points, had 8 rebounds and 3 assists for the Pioneers.
“They stayed with what they do,” Evans said. “They played within themselves, they didn’t panic and Pratt had a great game.”
Remarkably, Denver won with center Brett Starkey limited to 7 points and with Erik Benzel netting just 2 points (both on free throws).
“They showed they’re a team,” Evans said. “They’ve got (other) capable players, just like we do. Starkey was still banging, still playing hard, and he came through for them in the second half.
“You get 3 or 4 points here and 3 or 4 points there, and have your main guy go off, and you’ll be all right.”
The Pioneers, who hit 26-of-34 free throws and out-rebounded ASU 39-31, took the Cajuns to overtime Feb. 11 in the Cajundome before Louisiana prevailed 72-69.
Starkey hit 8-of-11 shots and had 20 points for Denver in that game, supported by 17 from Benzel and 14 from Pratt. For the Cajuns, Laurie Bridges and Cedric Williams had 15 points apiece, Brad Boyd had 12 and Michael Southall 10.
Another close battle would not be a surprise.
“They defended us well and ran their offense in that game,” Evans said. “They were focused and disciplined and were able to get the shots that they wanted, no what you wanted them to take.
“Starkey and Benzel played better at our place (than Friday).”Denver won Friday for the first time in Sun Belt Tournament play after three years of first-round losses.
“The pressure is off of them,” Evans said. “But, the pressure was on us, anyway.”
The Cajuns have picked up the pace the last two days at the end of a long since the loss to WKU.
“I was pleased with yesterday, and the day before,” Evans said. “I’m disappointed that we had such a long layoff. We scrimmaged a lot more to work on some things, and make sure we had some things covered.”
Judging from the way B.J. Pratt took over Friday’s play-in game, they’ll want to make sure to have him covered, too.
“We know that to make it to the championship game we have to win two games,” Evans said. “Obviously, we have to recover from our loss to Western Kentucky, and try to get back on track.”
WKU halted the Cajuns’ 21-game home win streak with a 69-66 victory in the Cajundome on Feb. 26. The West Division champion Cajuns would love to get the chance to return the favor, but must take care of business first.

Thanks Trigger 74
Thanks Trigger:D
 why am i not surprised the cajuns are out of the conference. ousted by denver no less. typical.
I Guess we wont be going to the NCAA tourny.:( But stay strong Cajuns, stay strong.
They're not going anywhere else, either!! WHAT AN EMBARASSMENT THIS TEAM TURNED OUT TO BE!!! :mad:Quote:

Not even the NIT?
I would be EXTREMELY surprised if they got an NIT bid. Considering they were a #1 seed getting bounced out of the FIRST GAME of the Conference Tourney? If I were them, I'd be too embarassed to accept an NIT bid!!!
Always take the bid. It looks good on the resume.Quote:

I was reading on the sunbelts site and this loss cannot be pinned on coach Jessie Evans. Turnovers pop up in my mind as why we lost, but MISSED SHOTS was the killer. Brad Boyd shooting 7 of 18 and Laurie Bridges shooting 1 of 9. That is 18 mised shots between 2 guys. Going 3 of 18 from 3 point land is asking for a loss. Cajuns won on rebounds so that is not why we lost. Cajuns won on assists which is a statistic tied to turnovers so that is not why we lost. Fouls were the same so that is not why we lost. The reason the Cajuns lost was missed shots.
Chuck,I will be surprised if the Cajuns get a NIT bid.We lost in the first round of our tournament in a weak conference. If our conference had a higher ranking, then perhaps we would have a shot.I believe if NMSU and WKU make it to the finals, then the loser of that game will get the NIT invite. The loss at home against WKU did not hurt our chances with the NIT,but the losses against Ark.St. and Denver did.
The loss against Denver was not because of effort,I think the kids played hard.I don't agree that somehow Jessie Evans is not part of the problem. When you don't back your assistants at practice when they are attempting to discipline players and you have discipline problems almost every week, then its starts at the top.Lack of discipline on and off the court is hurting this program and I think Jessie is going to have to make some tough decisions during the off season. If he doesn't,it will cost this program a lot of support.Just my opinion.
Yesterday I chose to watch tv all day instead of backing my cajuns. Skipped baseball, skipped the basketball broadcast. One of the shows I watched was the ALAMO and Bouie tells an apologetic Travis " I can't help being me, and you can't help being you."Quote:

Jesse cannot change. Disapline of players is not something he can stomach. I think this loss will be his Waterloo. We have been exposed, and I predict a steady decline of our basketball program from here on out.
The demise of Jessie began when he let his wife and son run the team back in 2000-2001.
I have tried to rid this bad taste from my mouth, but I can't.
Sorry.
Z.
I'm not so sure about this one...:oQuote:

Well I know broken hearts don't like rewards, last years performance is a good example.
However I for one, hope Louisiana gets a NIT bid. IF for no other reason a NIT bid on the books will do well for posterity’s sake.
I am reminded how a busted-hearted UCLA staff refused a bowl bid, and how the next season the players played without incentive.
On the whole this 2003 squad deserves a NIT bid. A late season collapse not withstanding they deserve an invite.
If Louisiana's season ended last night; they finished 7-3 in their last 10 games. Even if they won the NIT they would finish 7-3 in their last 10 games.
If Louisiana was to lose anywhere along the way in the NIT they would have a 6-4 finish in the last 10 games.
A 6-4 stretch would be their worst all year. Think about it, their worst is a record many schools strive for.
It has been a great year with a disappointing ending.
