Attached is the article that mentions about the QB battle while at Fresno.

I noticed & it was probably the best pick the Saints made in that pathetic excuse of a so called draft. Not only did they not make themselves any better at most positions. They managed to make themselves worse at tight end as if that were possible.

Boy it was hard getting through the first ten pages of this cry fest. I never read so many Betsy Wetsy stories back to back in my life. You guys do realize there's a solution to all of this? If someone steals yours, then steal someone else's. Don't get even. Get ahead. It's the new law of the college jungle. Either use it, or freaking perish. I have news for Mike Desormeaux. If the self righteous one who ____ed & moaned the most about his competitors using the portal to gain an unfair advantage can use the portal to steal our players, then Mike damn sure doesn't have an excuse not to use the portal for the good of UL football. If he says he's not using it for moral reasons. Then the translation of that is he's too scared to recruit the portal because he doesn't have enough balls, or enough connections to help his team get ahead. Either way, the only person to blame if he doesn't use it is him.
Any coach who can't adapt & adjust to this change in the college landscape shouldn't be employed as a head football coach in college football. It's that simple. Either use the portal to compete & make your team better Mike Desormeaux, or go buy a lucky dog wagon & sell hot dogs like JD Roberts did after the Saints fired him. But don't even call yourself an FBS football coach & you refuse to use all the tools in the tool box.

Good points BWK.
Napier showed us what UL football could be at its peak. We all have to accept what we saw and the missed opportunities. Let's give Mike some time. We all know the university has not given him the resources of his predecessor.
This is why I would argue we should go all in on basketball in this NIL environment. We can't pay 22 kids top dollar for their football services, but we can pay three or four high level basketball players.
Basketball is more sustainable for us in the future.
I'm cool with not giving NIL money for football, we'll never sniff the playoffs. Get comfortable recruiting local kids to play in a crap stadium, have a few good seasons and attend a regional bowl game. The sooner we accept this, the faster we can become the Villanova or Gonzaga of the south.

O line is very talented and young just had so many injuries last year couldn’t piece it together. They will be very good in the 2 deep. They just need to stay healthy. Linebackers will be talented, secondary will be talented and deep even with the departure of Amos. RB will be talented and 4 deep baring injury. D line depth will be a question mark. I don’t know enough about the WRs that didn’t play last year to make an assessment on them. Got pretty decent talent coming back. All who have made positive contributions. Hopefully we’re not trying to force it to one guy in triple coverage this year when 3 others are wide open.

Who is we? And I doubt we can pay three or four high level players.

Maybe I'm the only one with this opinion, but no thank you.

The unit group that I have most questions about is WR.
Jacob Bernard is a star.
Lance Legendre SHOULD be a star, but I need to see it before we crown him.
Pete Leblanc, if healthy, should contribute.
Other than that, we are young. Talented, but young. Lots of guys that need to prove it on the field. Robinson and Harvey Broussard will be interesting new comers to pay attention to.
Still, we lost a lot of experience the last 2 years. Need to stay healthy as a group this season.

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
WR is one of the few positions you can put a rookie (NFL) or true FR (College) in the starting lineup and get positive results.

Robertson, not Robinson. My bad.
Neal Johnson is TE, but yea, he should get 15 targets a game. He's a nightmare mismatch.
Jayroe needs to put on weight but I think he can contribute at some point next season.

Because I made 5 times the money my head high school football coach made my first year out of high school? Because I made more money than Bobby Collins did at USM my first year out of high school? Had I known college football coaches would be making 10 million dollars a year & the offshore oil industry would be completely tits up by now, I would have gladly paid my dues & become a coach. You got any other idiotic comments for the board?

No tight end is ever gonna get more than 4 targets a game in a MD offense. Never has happened yet & never will.

I guess you have more confidence than myself. LB is a question mark, OL is a major question considering how impacted our entire offense was last year with the injuries. And regardless of how talented you think they are, the overall talent level is down there than 3 years ago which concerns me.

And you make a great point as well. IF you look out at the Ocean & decide man that's too dangerous, can't ride a boat on all that water. We'll get sunk for sure. Then find a lake to swim in, or a pond, even a swimming pool. If you can't buy a championship in football, you can dang sure do it in basketball. And you would actually still have a chance to gain your old fan following back in that sport. Football is about to go DOA in this town because of the lack of institutional interest in a repetitive competitive program. But basketball could actually have the life pumped back into it.

LB is a strength on this team. Ossai, Williams and Edwards will be stars. Great experience with Guidry (think Quib). Also probably have our best development coaches on the team in Guilliani and Scott.
OL is only a questions mark because of depth. Top 6 guys can all play and will be a very good OL for our offense. The experience from last year will be very valuable, IMO.

This. I think some folks make comments without plugging in actual bodies.

Agree. Peter 2 years ago led the team in yards and catches until the bowl game he did not play in. Then had off season surgery and missed all the spring reps with the 2 new QBs. Then it is my understanding missed all of fall camp with a nagging groin injury that plagued him off and on through his career. Just never was healthy all of last year it appeared. I did hear that Des made the comment in a private conversation that he had a really good spring.
Jacob can look like a star when he’s healthy but he too appears to be injury prone when he gets hit at this level. Keeping those 2 healthy will be key because Lance will probably draw the eye of most defensive coordinators from what we saw last year towards the end of the season. From what I heard from those who saw him every day a practice he made freakishly athletic type plays on a regular basis.
Very curious to see the depth and how it develops after those 3.
