Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
Back to baseball. Our bullpen gave up 21(!) runs in the 8 innings pitched this weekend from the 7th inning on.
21 runs. In 8 innings.
That seems nearly impossible in this program.
The good news is that we swung the bats fairly well, and there is a quartet of pitchers that have had some nice outings. This start has been atrocious, but maybe another pitcher or two can step up gong forward and join the ones that look like they can be quite effective. All is not lost at this point, but this team needs to learn how to win. 1-6 record. 5 of the 6 losses were a pitch here or a play there from going the other way...and all in games against teams that will likely be right in the mix for postseason berths.
Things could get a lot better moving forward. Unfortunately, they could also get worse.
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
ANALYTICS........caused the problem and hopefully will solve it for us.....find out the whys and the why nots and fix it.....never as good or as bad but we ain’t that bad....Geaux Cajuns!
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
My glimmer of hope right now is that other than LSU and coastal, I hope we played the 3 toughest teams on our schedule, and with any timely hitting or pitching we could be as good as 6-1, but that’s done. So our seniors need to have a come to Jesus meeting (maybe leave Jesus out of it) right the ship now. Win 2/3 the rest of the season puts you at 34-22 in the regular season. With the strength of schedule we could have a solid rpi with that record, but bubble bound we would be. Like most of our recent teams, need a good 8-10 game win streak somewhere along the way to make up for the start.
Season if far from over. I’m upset because ive seen this team (for the most part) last year right the ship and play some good ball. New season now and we’re back at square one. The slow starts are getting old. Let’s turn it around earlier this year.
Geaux Cajuns!!! Get the water hose out.

And NO I do not even know the man. He did a lot for the program but there comes a time when things need to maybe change. I mean if this team does not make a regional for 3 years in row something needs to change.
While your delivery of your message has been a little bit in your face which often breeds contempt, I would agree there is some validity in this post. When you have a program that has seen a measure of success over an extended period of time, a standard is set which breeds higher expectations. When these expectations are not being met (if we fail to reach the NCAA for the 3rd time in a row) for as long as ours have not been met, questions need to be answered even by a coach like Robe. Obviously, I'm not advocating for a change but if this year continued on its path and we missed the postseason once again, I would hope that Maggard would be having a discussion with Robe about meeting those expectations in the future.
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
not having Gunner this weekend hurt. Win or lose he would of eaten up some innings this weekend. I think this pitching staff could end up deeper than last years staff when it’s all said and done. But Burke, Batty, Armstrong, and Cox, have got to give us quality innings if we are going to win. Yea the double header didn’t help any but u gotta suck it up and get the job done. Bradford didn’t pitch at all this weekend. Was he available?
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
The way I see it, the two things which got A LOT of fans acting over the top are:
1. Tony putting Veillon in to pitch (resulting in a disaster)
2. Getting swept by a Southland team
HUGE bonus reason to bítch: the Southland team who swept us is coached by our former assistant. An assistant who apparently was the reason for a lot (if not all) of our success over the last decade.
Had Batty or Stone closed out game 1 for a win, Veillon never goes to the mound and we don't get swept. The season is currently still a mess, but the torches and pitchforks would have remained in the barn.
Had Veillon closed out the game for the win, Tony is f'n genius and we don't get swept. Thanks Tony.
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
My opinion, that was not the time to see what Veillon could do. Wednesday night with bases loaded at tech in the 9th was not the time to see what Colton frank could do either. Every other disappointment so far has been “ baseball”

Your comment about former assistant Deggs has a lot of merit. Of course only for the objective and open minded type Cajun fan!

Because we all that 2013 and 2014 would have happened without Deggs, right MAT ?

When is the time to see Veillon and Franks? Conference series? Or in February ?

Not in a weekend series on the road when you're playing an opponent that can boost your RPI. Do that an early mid-week game.

My issue with the Veillon thing is he's listed as an OF not OF/RHP. He had one appearance at UNO from what I saw. It was the first game of a weekend series. If we don't have pitching to have an option other than him that early in a weekend, we have major problems and the preparation recruiting and development-wise for the season was a failure.
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
We had three arms last year that aren't with us this year:
Haden Erbe is 4-0 with 31 IP and a 2.61 ERA with 34K (Seminole State)
Brett Williams - I can't find any of his stats.
Jacob Norman - 2.2 IP 6.75 ERA (LSUA)
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
I hate to say it, but it’s probably time we consider throwing money at Deggs to come back and transition. Florida State has to do it with Bowden and Fisher.
Robe’s been head coach for 25 years. That’s a hell of a run. Give the man his due, but it’s probably time to start the handover process. Hire him as a consultant with the athletic department.
Re: BB G3: Louisiana @ Sam Houston State
The downward spiral continues, even with the offseason changes that were supposed to be a panacea. We have a semi-retired head coach in Robe(glorified pitching coach/motivational speaker), and head coach in waiting on Babineaux (good luck with that), a recruiter in Talbot who is still getting all of the blame some how, and a new hitting coach who seems to be doing his job...so far. Too much talent to be 1-6. The coaching staff seems like an obstacle course of where the buck stops.

Your delusion is borderline comical. Jump on that sword little man. You gonna close with a kid in the bottom of the 9th on the road against a quality team who basically hasn't thrown a pitch in 5 years when your _____ is 1-4 ? OK, let's go with that.

I’m a pretty good planner. Made my first post in 2017 but created another username to start fooling everyone in 2010.
Last year you said I was Lewis’ dad when you were proclaiming that Harrison would be our starting QB.
Now, who owns who. Back to your keyboard little man.
