Was G5 Tulane playing "Major" college football when they beat USC in the cotton bowl last year? They may have more money than UL but we have just as much if not more fan support than them.
Now with the 12 team playoff expansion coming up those top 25 UL teams would have a shot at playing in the 12-team playoff. What is more "Major" than that? If the community put more money back into our programs we could sign better players to give us a better shot at knocking off the traditional heavyweights. It's only the perception from the alumni and community that holds the university back at this point.
We have the opportunity however much of a long shot to win national championships in every sport. What is not "Major" about that. Yes, we are the underdogs being in G5, but embrace being the dog and realize that if we continue building up our programs we can compete with the best.
1 In-State FCS game to start year
1 Home and Home series against LOCAL G5 rival(Tech, Tulane, Rice, UTSA, Memphis)
1 P5 2 for 1 series or Home and Home if possible
1 P5 money game
8 game Conference schedule
This is a perfect schedule for us as long as we're in a G5 conference
Granted, the Sunbelt has some terrible locked in bowl agreements (*) and also sold the media rights for a paultry sum.
That fact however does not define the level of play the Sunbelt teams have been putting on the field the last few seasons.
Growing pains.
* The location of the New Orleans Bowl is best in the country.
. . . no other city in the country has the full allure of filth, crime and drugs . . .
A 2024 Mardi Gras conflict did move the next New Orleans Super Bowl back a year 2025.
