OK... an honest report...
QB -- not flashy but very efficient..
Running game-- nice RB, but run blocking has been questionable
TE-- better than yours. trust me on this one. Green will be a first or second round pick in this year's draft
WR --a strength.. Lawson and Surgent are studs
DL--- erratic, but has been very good at times
LB --- lots of speed at this position, but undersized
DB --- 7 pick 6's this year, second in the nation and most by any team in the country since 1971. Bentley will be drafted this year, White is a true corner at 6'3" and the safeties are both ball hawks.
K --- Baer is a stud on FG and XP, and is 7-9 on his career in onsides kicks.
P-- Baer does this too, and is very good at pinning teams deep
KR/PR --- Surgent usually handles this... smooth and competent, but not spectacular.
Thanks- pretty much what I had heard.
UofA University of Arizona- Pito. Want to go Spanish- deal Joven.
Sorry if my comments were construed as snide-not my intent.
Great ideas need to be countered, not matched. Sometimes not even at the same time.
Just remember this and SDSU will do fine. ;)
UL was picked 120th in a preseason poll.
You are welcome.. and don't assume that your guy will gain 200 rushing.. or that your pass rush will cause major problems.
You guys look really strong and it would be by far the best win of our season to beat you. You are the second best team we will play this year in my opinion.
QB: Good runner and effecient passer. Tough as nails.
RB: Freshman bruiser who can get yards after contact. He needs to cause he doesn't get many holes.
WR/TE: A strength. We have a couple of guys who can stretch the field and an possesion guy who catches everything thrown near him. Probably the most improved aspect of our team this year compared to years past. Our tight end is the real deal and a fade/jump ball to him in the endzone is money.
O-Line: Decent pass blocking, mixed bag run blocking. Will need to play well for us to have a chance.
DLine: Improved over years past. Will also need to play game of the year to beat ya'll.
Linebackers: Hurt by injuries this year, play hard and are quick, but undersized.
Secondary: Another strength, ball hawking and have a had a shxx pile of pick sixes. A
FG Kicker: Strength he is accurate and clutch.
Punter: Same dude. Not a boomer but has a nack for pinning ya deep.
We will have to avoid mistakes and turnovers, especially early when we will probably be overly amped. Ya'll appear to start slow so we will need to take advantage of that. We have been much better conditioned in the second half than in years past so hopefully that will pay off.
Again, it would be a great win for us to beat ya'll. I see ya'll being where we will be in a couple of years talent wise. I have a lot of faith in our coaches to be able to put the best game plan in place to give us a shot.
Homer prediction: 31-28 on a last second Baer field goal. Cajuns win!
This article is stuff for the locker room board.
Hang in there guys, last week I was growing impatient as well. Same credentials as yours and got the call on Sunday. Was a little dissapointed in location, trying to make sense of it, from reading where everyone else is seated, but can't quite put a finger on how seats were assigned. I know they said RCAF was first on the credential list, but that's just not flying.
We have a very mobile QB, who is a tremendous deep ball passer. He also makes pretty good decisions, and doesnt throw very many interceptions. He is a bit injury prone, and will usually miss a series or two a game with some kind of "nick". Backup has been the starter the last 2 years, and for whatever reason, has regressed. The WRs are solid and do a good job getting deep, and our TE is one of the best receiving TEs in the country. The O-line is young (we'll lose just one starter next season), and they struggle at times, especially in the run game. We have a big frosh RB who is a beast, but a lot of times, there is no where for him to go. I hope that these couple extra week of practice will give the O-line some time to jell a bit more. They are capable players, and may be the key to our chances.
Defensively, we have been an enigma against the run. We've completely shut down a couple of really good backs, but have also gotten thrashed by a couple others. They will also be a key. I've seen Hillman play, and he is going to get his yards. Hopefully we can keep him from running wild. The LBs are all very good athletes, but are undersized. They play hard though. One of the season long starters was thought to be lost for the season, but I have read recently that he may make it back for the bowl game. Our secondary is the strength of the team. We were tied for the all-time NCAA record for "pick 6's" before Southern Miss broke the record last weekend with their 8th (we have 7). The pass rush has also been hit or miss, but there are athletes there as well. I fully expect both teams to score 30+ points. This should be a very entertaining game. Your team's resume looks to be better than ours, but there's something to be said for 30,000 Cajuns in New Orleans at a game that doesnt start until 8 pm! :)
Oh, and we have a great kicker, and one of the best punters in the country (especially at pinning teams deep), and its the same guy. We struggle mightily at covering kickoffs, but are the best on-side kicking team in the history of the world.
Marking a noun generically is so musunderstood.
Since UL is in the University of Louisiana System everyone that attended UL, attend the University of Louisiana. But some get bent out of shape thinking a claim was made. In their minds eye they see "THE! University of Louisiana."
I think they're ok. Good live show just not that big on the style of music. I can see them having a very successful career. Don't get so upset because I made a correction on their actual name. I figured you were one of their new found fans by the way you referred to them as The Givers and not Givers, but since you've been a longtime fan I now find it sort of odd why you would refer to them as that. I played in a couple of bands and it was always irritating to me and the guys when people got our name wrong. Anyway, you seem like a good dude (Cajun fan and good taste in music) so let's just let this little spat die right here. It's sort of taking this thread off topic anyhow.
Thanks guys!
Dumb questions- What was your biggest win this year? And curious whos your rival?
Anything Aztec stuff I can answer shoot a question-will be working out of the house today and have time...
Best and good luck! Actually happy to see you guys in a Bowl!
If our Offensive Line protects well, I feel the Aztecs will win this one. Lindley without being rushed is very good. Add Hillman and we will be hard to stop.
If you can pressure Lindley all game, tight game to the end.
I like this matchup for a really good game.
McQervo... we really didn't have a "signature win" this year. Being we were starting a new era of Cajun football with a new coach and coming off a 3-9 year... and having been projected as 120th in the FBS and second to last in the SBC... when we won the Kent State game (an ugly rain soaked game), it just seemed to kick things off. Troy has been our dominant conference champion as of late and beating them was big... but they are in a bad slump. FIU and FAU have been tough programs to read and both formidable... taking both of them down this year was big. We went from starting the year with eventual #3 Oklahoma State to playing no other ranked teams. We did come back in the final minutes of a game with our instate "rival"... gulp... ULM... to score two late touchdowns and win that game 36-35. We don't really want to call that a "big win". It was a monster exciting finish and definitely solidified the gutsy character of our team. This was ULM's year on paper. They had possibly the best team they've had in many many years... it just doesn't always happen like it shows on paper.
Anyhow... rivals?... we debate this one all of the time. Some want to say it's our instate SBC member foe ULM. I don't. The older alumni view LaTech (WAC) and Tulane (CUSA) as our instate rivals we like to hate in all sports.
I will say this... our schedule, our results, and even the individual player stats are not the defining characteristics of our team this year. What I think SDSU will discover in the bowl is the extreme desire and gutsyness (best term I can come up with) this team plays with.
Who is SDSU's rival and what was your biggest win and why?
Biggest Win Washington State- hadn't beat a Pac 10 team in a while, something like 8 years.
Rivals- we HATE no tame it down HATE HATE HATE BYU. Many reasons-some include their on camera caught (See ABC national game) racial remarks, or perhaps "Replay Gate" where in PROVOSTAN they actually staffed the replay booth with 3 BYU alums. Cost us the game....
Rivals- Most Old timers (I am not one of them) consider California State University Fresno (a blatent dig BTW) "Fresno State" (aka Fresburgians/Frestuckie) our rivals.
Interesting about FIU- QB's Mom and I went to school together-lol.
Well I called and was told to be patient after about a week. I said that was not going to cut it. Ciontacted Ms Bertrand, and left call back message. Got a call from a helper and was told my tickets were ready and I could pick them up. Not easy as I live 120 miles from Lafayette. Fed Ex at my expense the next day.
Call them (cajun dome box office) and do not take NO or be patient for an answer.
