I will repeat my earlier post as I still think this design is the best one. I am not convinced that the FDL alone is a recognized symbol for the university and that Ragin Cajuns alone is associated with UL. Until that is achieved, we still need to combine the FDL, Ragin Cajuns and Louisiana. This logo achieves that.
Here is a logo I designed a few years ago and had made into a car sticker.
I don't know how to separate the letters. But, take the U out of it and the L with FDL where the university is located with the state looks really good. Including Ragin Cajuns with it incorporates all of our branding initiatives.

While we are on the subject of university branding, I wrote to Dr. S back in May with the following recommendation.
I am writing with a suggestion regarding the university logo. There is still no clear identity for UL. Athletically, we refer to ourselves as LOUISIANA. Academically we refer to ourselves as UL Lafayette. Yet, our website is Louisiana.edu Why the discrepancy?
The name law requires use of “at Lafayette” when using University of Louisiana, but says nothing about using LOUISIANA without “University of”. Presumably, that is why we use LOUISIANA athletically. But, our academic logo says University of Louisiana Lafayette. Any wonder we are still called Louisiana Lafayette? Why can we use LOUISIANA athletically but not academically? If it doesn’t violate the law in one area, why does it in another?
I note the logo used for eNews. It is displayed below and is very close to what I am recommending to you today.
My recommendation is that we use a logo similar to Texas (see below) academically. It brings consistency in university reference while emphasizing LOUISIANA, but displays the legal name of the university, just as the eNews logo does. And matches the athletic logo.
I am displaying current and recommended logos that are illustrative of my comments and recommendation.
I would appreciate your consideration of this change and a response in that regard.

Did he reply back? If so, what did he say?

"Thanks for the info. I've passed it on to Communications and Marketing to discuss."
That was on May 23. I've heard nothing further from him.

. . . you have much better . . . this actually screams Miami as much as it screams Louisiana . . . however that one should scream to everyone how effective a good mark can be if developed, marketed and used correctly . . .

There is, a history to this design. It goes all the way back to SLII
The two sided U takes off of the II in SLII.
The original design had the SL interlocked between the II

The historical design.
I Ieft the L in the same location and curled the double II to form a U below.

Re: It’s time to brand a classic clean L
This was fun way back when.
It incorporates the SLII convert to U.
But that wasnt the fun part.
The divided U also represents Swamp seating with the tunnel dividing the U.
At the time I did this the endzone seating wasn't built and I added home side seating by the levee to make it <s>semestrial</s> semetrical.
I think Babb For Heisman was in the picture I used to.

Re: It’s time to brand a classic clean L
. . . semestrial . . . I like that . . . but the U is the U . . . the U is Miami, not Louisiana . . . maybe one day the L will be Louisiana like the U is Miami . . . maybe . . .

Come on faltfinder this was 17 years ago. :)
You can superimpose the U over the current seating at the swamp perfectly minus a portion on the home side. Plus the hidden tunnel.

All the current identities and motifs are nice, clean and well done.A lot of the graphic redesigns suggested are underwhelming

The more you have to explain a logo the less it says. No doubt the silhouette of the state without an L says it all,c’est fait tout. The FDL in Lafayette area and it’s done best to me.

The current interlocking UL was stolen from the Louisville band, except I don't know if stolen is the right word since they did quit using it.
Not very creative definitely fits.

That's redundant. The FDL IS Louisiana.

All we need is my avatar or the official FDL from the university.
