We're nowhere close to an end, and anyone that thinks Lafayette won't be immensely affected by the demise of the O&G industry is wishful thinking.

Even if you are correct (and I believe you are), it is vital to follow through on this Plan vigorously, as, if successful, it will vastly broaden our base and make us far less dependent on the Lafayette economy.

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
Several items are appropriately tagged as immediate. (The consultants were being kind not to write the words 'past due') Still it's never too late to start the next leg of this journey. Most of the needs mentioned have a price tag attached. Like choosing which items in a capital budget move forward first apply an ROI to each one to prioritize resources. Then let's pick some low hanging fruit. For example, how about we immediately settle on a ticker? The suggestion of using LARC is well intentioned but... perhaps instead go with LRC as suggested earlier in this thread.

I'm pretty sure we have no right to trademark every use of the word Ragin' Cajun. It's kinda like how Apple, Inc. can keep you from putting "Apple" on an electronic device, but not on a box of cereal.

Re: Branding, Media and the Alden Report
Yeah I remember a story on the trademark issue a number of years back. Our trademark was fairly narrow. Some of which is legitimate (like the comparison) and some of it I think should have been expanded over time but with that said I don't think we are in bad shape.

We can correct the mistakes we made in the past. We can't erase them, but we better remove the people that made them repeatedly and after being advised by knowledgeable people of better ways to do things. We have brought in really competent people [Ken Winstead comes to mind] then handcuffed them for whatever reason. The person or people who put on those handcuffs should be dismissed from their employment and we should move forward with people who will implement the plan we have been given without hesitation and with conviction.

So let's figure out which items we CAN start on immediately. Meanwhile, move some money around from RCAF to hire and pay some qualified folks (young and old) and get this ____ moving.

Yes, I agree. And I think that is what will be happening. Can't imagine tjoe would've paid good money for this only to then ignore it.

Just me put I would put out a detailed plan of what we want to do and where we want to start and use that to start a mega RCAF drive to help pay for staff.

Dave Schultz was discussing the report this morning on his 103.7 FM show. He remarked that we lead both the SBC and CUSA in game day revenue and I think it is by a wide margin. Our strong support in the diamond sports is a key factor there of course. Still this is an indication of our potential. We need to continually remind folks of this ranking. That is true for everyone in media, especially outside of the local area. We also need to make sure everyone involved in other leagues knows this and that we continually pound this. This is huge positive we need to highlight.

Yep, definitely a big plus, but honestly I think most are a lot more interested in the "weaknesses and opportunities" part of the analysis.

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
I think we are going down the wrong path with trying to come up with a ticker abbreviation that includes the Ragin Cajuns. What other Univ. does this? Let's see, FG. Nope. NC, no, not them either. TL or TA&MA. Not. What about MW or OSUB. I can't think of another that uses it. We should not try to start this trend, it will not work. Also, Acadiana is a nice thought locally but doesn't make sense for a Univ trying to make a name for itself nationally. Can you imagine The University of Hill Country. The problem with Acadiana is that the name has zero national name recognition and it would set us back to ground level trying to get to the 10th floor.

Or perhaps UL/RC or ULRC, actually I don't think I like those either... I like UL....

Re: Branding, Media and the Alden Report
I see only positives in the procuring of a professional, knowledgeable, organization outside of your own to evaluate how you are doing business. This is the way Dr. Savoie works. He has done this from when he took over as Pres. He gets an assessment done, like student housing for instance, or the master plan, and then he has the backing of a already publicly known document showing what's needed, and can move forward without a backlash, without claims that his ideas are unsupported. It's his mode of operation, and it's effective. I believe he will take action based on this review, but it's only speculation until we see it done. I hope it's the right actions, because it's critical he gets this done, time is not on our side.

Did I say we should forget the past? Of course not. I said there's nothing we can do about it.
You don't get where you want to go by looking behind you. You take the memory of the past and try to correct it as best you can.
But the past is just that.
I'm interested in our future. And, evidently, so are the powers that be. Otherwise they wouldn't have spent all this money to find out where we need to get better.
Now, it's their responsibility to make sure this isn't just window dressing.

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
Believe it or not....we have made so much progress with LOUISIANA RAGIN CAJUNS and the use of UL for athletics that I would hate to change....my area is Calcasieu Parish and many would be surprised at the use of UL in this area...only the typical older types have a problem and let's face it, those will NEVER change no matter any changes.....would just add fuel to their fire....my .02!

We could do what many Big 12 schools do and use the reverse letters which would not violate the law:
OU - University of Oklahoma
KU - University of Kansas
CU - University of Colorado
LU - University of Louisiana
It would require a change in mindset from UL. But, if it could help solve our identity problem, it would be worth it. Our ONLY references would be LOUISIANA and LU. Makes much more sense than LARC.

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
That's all well and good guys, but the school has not and can not push UL. This was done by the fans and the media.
To make a splash and get a brand OUTSIDE of the local area, we are going to have to push LOUISIANA. Remember, change starts with the man in the mirror. I have been making myself use LOUISIANA for a year now. It's a game changer.
