But this isn't their first time in Acadiana, on their first visits the highly trained dogs scoured Whiskey Bay. Now they're back, combing areas in Acadia, St. Landry and Evangeline Parishes.</p><p>"We've kind of drawn a box of the areas we're interested in and we're going to map them out, we're going to clear that area, move on to the next one and keep doing it for as long as it takes," said Mike Candella with the Special K9's Search and Recovery team.</p><p>The trainer/K9 teams began by focusing around the property of Brandon Lavergne, the man accused of kidnapping and killing Mickey Shunick. They said if anyone can find Mickey, it would be these highly trained dogs.</p><p>"We get down there in the sluices, the bayous, the dense woods, the grown-up fields, it is very very tough and without these guys it's going to be very very hard," said Candella.

VIDRINE — Human remains believed to be those of missing Lafayette resident Mickey Shunick were recovered Tuesday near a cemetery in Evangeline Parish.
Her family and friends — as well as the entire Acadiana community — have taken a deep breath upon hearing that officials have recovered the remains thought to belong to Mickey Shunick. They now wait for the official confirmation to exhale.
Its not a matter of offering the death penalty, its a matter of whether you can get a judge to hand down that sentence in this area which is a pretty conservative area by nature. The last death penalty was handed down 27 years ago here and this area is far more conservative than others around the state in that regard. A change of venue may not be a terrrible thing if going for the death penalty
