It's a familiar refrain.
Holly Tankersley belts a grand-slam home run and UL's ninth-ranked softball squad breaks open a close game with a late-inning rally.
The UL squad did that Sunday against nationally-ranked Baylor in the finals of their own Ragin' Cajuns Invitational. On Wednesday afternoon, they did the same thing against in-state rival McNeese State.
Tankersley's slam in the bottom of the sixth inning came as part of a five-run uprising and lifted the Cajuns to a 7-1 victory, keeping UL perfect at Lamson Park this season.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Cuevas fanned 10 Cowgirls and allowed a lone sixth-inning run in her second win over McNeese (5-9) this season.
Tankersley was 2-for-3 hitting for the Cajuns (13-1), who broke open a scoreless game on Codi Runyan's solo homer in the third inning. Moments later, Lacey Bertucci singled and scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 advantage.

During that time, Cuevas was retiring 15 straight MSU batters before former Teurlings Catholic standout Brooke Brodhead doubled down the left field line in the top of the sixth inning. That shot plated Tiffany Ritchie to cut the margin in half before two errors helped set up Tankersley's second slam of the season in the bottom of the inning.
Cuevas (8-0) scattered five hits and didn't walk a batter for the fifth time this year, while Cori Bram (1-4) took the loss despite allowing only one earned run thanks to four MSU errors.
The win was the 499th home win in the history of the UL program, but the Cajuns will have to wait more than two weeks for a chance at a landmark win. UL travels to Natchitoches Friday-Sunday to join Alcorn State, Colgate, Tennessee-Martin and host Northwestern State in the NSU Invitational, and will be in the Easton Spring Fling with nationally-ranked Alabama and Seton Hall in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the following weekend.
