Re: Student Union Construction.
They finished today and the guys are either home or not far from home. I have to give them credit. They didn't waste time once they got started and they did a very good job.
The best view from this spot in a very long time.

A view from what was the front of old Olivier Hall.

Panorama view from the Guillory Hall balcony over cypress lake. I think this has the potential to be one of the most beautiful spots on campus and will be a gathering spot for many years to come. I am very thankful they decided to keep it.

And I agree, Helmut: very shortly, this will become an iconic spot on our campus...and one that will last for many years to come. This is now the 'before' picture of what will become the green space/stage that are in the works.
From the UL site:
"Wayne Domingue, a project manager at Architects Southwest, said the firm is collaborating with the University's Office of Facilities Management to design a landscaped plaza with sitting areas where the buildings now stand.
"We're developing a concept that will convert the area into a gathering place for students," Domingue said."
Re: Student Union Construction.
Somebody hurry up and take that ugly student government sign down!!! lol
Re: Student Union Construction.

Developing? Seems like you have a development plan already in place before you demolish, then start the development immediately thereafter.
Re: Student Union Construction.
That old student government sign would be sweet painted, distressed and sealed.. and hung in my game room. Don't throw it out!

They wanted to see sight lines after demolition. They also wanted to see the condition and outline of the balcony after demolition. I suspect they have a pretty good idea what they want to do. All they have to do is get final placement and design to a budget.
