Selection likely someone none of us are thinking about now.
I would think that David Patrick will be considered strongly from that list. I think the head coaching record is a concern. But those two jobs are traditionally difficult jobs.

As is this one. Much potential but will take someone who can develop it in all facets.

Our job is not a traditionally hard job. Neither UC Riverside nor Sacramento State have ever been to the NCAA tournament nor NIT. UC Riverside contemplated dropping athletics in 2021.
Our job has challenges but it's not on the level of those schools.

At the end of the day, even my 8 year old niece who plays hopscotch for a living would be an improvement

Traditionally, no.
I would say at the moment it will be as hard as at those schools.
Should have never let it get this hard.

Absolutely correct. Should have never gotten this bad.
The product needs to be fixed first and foremost.
Maggard, and to a degree T-Joe, has to fix the dome situation, that’s not on any coach’s responsibility list. That’s a contractual issue.
Schedule, that’s between Maggard and coach. No more non D1 games would be a start. Problem is, pretty much everyone plays a nobody tech @nowhereville. Fillers to get your minimum home games.
A dynamic rah-rah coach can only carry you so far. Any doubt, look at HUD’s downward slide and demise here.
The unfortunate best thing the new coach has, he’ll probably blow it all up and start fresh. As pointed out yesterday, UL won’t out physical anyone this season.

Re: Head Mens Basketball Coaching Search
I think my top choice is Quannas White. Maybe bring Bobby Champagne (former Cajun coach and Lafayette native who is also on staff at Houston) as his top assistant.

Great idea. That may work.

Re: Head Mens Basketball Coaching Search
I'd liked to see a Bobby Paschal type guy hired, that guy would check all the boxes..

Can we get off the Brad Boyd fantasy please. I’m sure a great guy and a good high school coach but this program has been set back way more that a “couple of years”. Open a NATIONAL search and find a qualified candidate. Boyd is not that guy. For God’s sake he hasn’t even been an assistant at any level of college basketball. Give it a rest.

He was on staff for two years at UL.

Basketball would be the easiest sport to flip from worst to first in the portal era. Especially in the sunbelt. 2 good portal players next year could be a belt trophy.

Need $$$ and that could work.

Oh my bad. 2 years as a grad assistant under legendary Robert Lee. Let’s count that.

It’s ironic some people don’t want anyone associated with Marlin, yet someone associated with Lee is ok.
Lee, the only coach to sport a MBB losing record at the university since 1957, and one of only three to ever do so in the history of the program, dating back to 1911.

Lee lost a bunch of his players to the then NCAA violation that was in vogue.
APR

Dude had years to right the ship. One of the better dismissals at UL.
And with the Wild West NIL, I’d guess that APR thing will pop up at some universities.

I think its more about Marlin is the current outgoing coach. And people don't want anything associated with what we just had. The wound is too fresh.

This all has been one slow trainwreck since Jessie’s departure. There’s nothing but a blip with Peyton and Long. The rest is pretty much forgettable. Including Brown, who left the season after getting a car and 50k.

Man, you're right. Seeing all the historical pictures on the wall of the Dome brings the stark reality of a once proud program to what we've become. I'm excited for a new start. Maggard has done a great job thus far in getting good coaches. Let's hope that holds true.

YES… thank you. If we hire Brad (who I loved as a player and think he’s a good guy) after FINALLY getting rid of Marlin, then I know we aren’t taking our basketball program seriously and I… and many others… will continue to stay away.

I’ve been thinking the same thing over the last 10 or so years as we’re leaving the Dome after a game. Sad.

That's like.....just your opinion, man.
