At the time I thought the very same thing. After hearing all the reports I have come to believe that her family is made up of the sweetest, nicest people on earth and they do not believe people do evil things. I hope no one construes this to mean anything other then utmost sympathy for the family and friends. I cannot image the torture they must live with hour by hour, day by day.Quote:

The plan is, as people come in to pick up flyers, she wants to give people information on how to protect themselves, through self-defense and being aware of their surroundings.

<p>Equusearch is again searching for Mickey Shunick. Lafayette Police asked the search and recovery team Equusearch to come back two days after Brandon Lavergne's kidnapping and murder arrest. Equusearch was here for about a week soon after Mickey's disappearance in May. They left after exhausting all leads. <br />About a dozen Equusearch team members were searching today in St. Martin Parish, but still no sign of Mickey.</p><p>"Unfortunately we haven't been to the right place so we're here until it's over with or we've done everything can," said Executive Director Tim Miller.</p><p>Last time they were here, they allowed volunteers to help, but this time, only experienced people are allowed on searches. They've gone through extensive training with Equusearch and know how to search for evidence.

District Attorney Mike Harson says Lavergne wasn't invited to testify and he has no right to attend. I spoke with a Lafayette criminal defense attorney not working on this case to get answers on what strategies the defense may use.</p><p>For forty-four years Thomas Guilbeau has practiced criminal law in Lafayette, covering a variety of cases including homicides and death penalty cases. He says it won't be hard to get an indictment from a grand jury in Lavergne's case.
Lavergne, 33, of the Lawtell area in St. Landry Parish, has been held without bail at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center in the disappearance of Shunick, a University of Louisiana at Lafayette student. Information about the Pate case was not immediately available.
If we had a justice system in place that actually carried out proper justice for crimes committed, this guy wouldn't have been out to commit yet another crime. What a freakin shame.

<div align="center"><a href="http://www.katc.com/news/families-await-justice/"><img src="http://www.katc.com/images/thumbnails/826B1A13881DFB743C6749DD2D6B8909_200_200.jpg" alt="Families Await Justice" border="0" align="left" vspace="4" hspace="8"/></a></div><p>It was in June of 1999 when 35-year-old Lisa Pate of Youngsville went missing.<br />There was no sign of the mother of three for three-months.</p><p>Until in September, 1999 when a woman's body was found under three large boards in a grassy field in northwest Church Point, dental records identified the body as Lisa Pate.</p><p>13-years later, it's unclear what evidence was presented to the grand jury connecting Brandon Lavergne to Pate's death.</p><p>For now, the only connection is that her body was found in Church Point, where Lavergne grew up. He was 20 years old at the time. Brandon Lavergne went to jail for an unrelated sex-crime in February of 2000 he was released in 2008.</p><p>Now, Lavergne is back behind bars, indicted for first degree murder in the deaths of these two women 13 years apart.</p><p>Members of Pate's family are relieved to finally have an arrest. Pate did have three children, a daughter who just a few weeks old, the family did give up for adoption. Pate's older children, two boys are 22 and 16 now.
