whoever OLD TRACK GUY is you need to calm down. First competition gets better every year in ANY sports. Second this was YOUR FORMER TEAM i can you having concern but it doesn't mean you can go degrate the athletes that are on teh track team NOW. they work to hard to excell and its a lot more difficult to compete. IF YOU HAVE CONCERS BRING THEM UP WITH THE UNIVERSITY!!!
This message is to inform those of you who don't know the situation of UL distance guys. I was upset to see this year that UL placed last in cross country after winning the Conference title the year before. Was this a fluke? I think not. If people in the office would be doing their job to recruit athletes to come to the University, the track program wouldn't be on the decline.The attitude of the team is awesome. Guys out there now are up and coming and are hoping that new recruits will come in and help build teams of the future. I feel that if UL gets new guys working together young in their careers, then the status of the team will continue to rise. These young guys up and coming are full of talent and are ready to burst at any moment. Watch out all of you who doubt the team of the future, cause they are up and coming!
My grandson left from the program a few years back and puts a different spin on the state of UL tracksters. He says there are some who want to do their own thing, work out with their own coaches, call the coach by his last name without placing COACH ahead of it, loaf/don't complete workouts, tell the coaches what events they will and will not run, report back in pitiful shape after holidays, etc. etc, etc. From the little i have seen in results on the RC website, NO ONE seems to be improving from high school, which is where coaches aren't supposed to know what they are doing. If things are so rosy, why the miserbale output a the recent conference championship held at Murphreesboro and why did the freshman from down around Thibodeaux (who finished up in the rankings of Sun Belt CC) quit such an up and coming and promising group?Quote:

"NO ONE" seems to be improving? I'll just name one example for you , tho there are tons. Philip Guidry, ran like 4:40 something in the mile in HS last year and has already run like 4:28 INDOORS! That's just one example of a distance guy improving. Would you like another? Josh Falgout, another distance guy. He won the 10k last week in 32:21 I believe, a big P.R. for him, and he's a sophomore. Why would anyone even care about a disagreement or "fight" that happened. Obviously if you're not on the team than it is none of your business....but that's just my opinion.
BUT, if you REALLY want to know how many fights there have been I'll let you in on a little secret. There have been (as of this season) 48 total fights. See we (track athletes) have our own little Fight Club going on in the basement under the track office building. I'm not supposed to tell you that b/c the first rule about Fight Club is that we do not talk about Fight Club, and the second rule is that we do not talk about Fight Club...so you didn't hear it from me.
I do beg to differ houndoggy1. The guys on the team now are doing well. Wait let me rephrase that. The guys on the team that want to be something other than mediocre are the guys doing well. For the guys out there that are just going through the motions, I agree that they should leave the team. But it is unfair for you to prejudge the guys that do want to be something out there. Brent Almond came from the Woodlands High School in TX and is loaded with talent. He and others on the team as well as recruits coming into the team are going to turn the program around. I do agree that coaching hasn't been as solid as it was in the past. But it is not the athletes to blame for this. If coaches don't perform all aspects of a coaching position, then they need to be removed from that position. A big part of coaching is recruiting. If a coach does a poor job in recruiting, then the team will suffer. Also, the guys out there now are working hard and are LEADING BY EXAMPLE! Thses guys have the guts and desire to turn this program around and will do so.

Baton Rouge, La.- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field teams wrapped up the final day of the LSU Relays Saturday, in Baton Rouge.
Freshman Toni Lee won section B of the triple jump with a mark of 37-07.25. Lee also placed eighth in the long jump, at 18-00.50. Kioloni Readeaux finished second, behind Lee in section B of the triple jump with a mark of 37-06.00. Latoya Celestine finished fourth in the long jump, at 18-02.50. Readeaux finished fifth behind Celestine with a mark of 17-08.25. Kayla Vice, Lauryn Allgood and Kelli Hebert finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively, in the pole vault. Vice’s mark was at 10-06.00 and Allgood and Hebert both were at 10-00.00.
The women’s distance medley team finished fourth with a time of 13:23.26. Casey Zeller placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.88.
For the men, junior Joseph Dickens finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 46-04.00.
UL will return to action Saturday, April 1, as they host the Louisiana invite, at the Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility.

It's only fitting that the final 30-year anniversary team announced by the Sun Belt Conference would honor one of its all-time winningest coaches.
Long-time University of Louisiana coach Charles Lancon was an easy selection as the league's all-time men's coach on the All-Time Outdoor Track and Field Team selected by a panel of media members covering the league.
Lancon, who passed away in 2002, was joined on the squad by six Ragin' Cajun men's selections and four women's selections. The team was the last of a series of all-time squads announced by the Sun Belt as part of its 30th anniversary.
UL's men's selections included triple jumpers Ndabe Mdhlongwa and Lawrence Willis, hurdler Larry Moore, sprinter-hurdler Grady Labbe, quarter-miler Henry Brooks and all-around performer Windell Dobson. The women's selections included sprinters Twilet Malcolm, Keisha Ray Owens and Beverly Langley and discus thrower Jo Jo Harris.
Lancon coached from 1989 until his passing and was named the league men's Coach of the Year 11 times. His squads won a total of 11 Sun Belt men's titles including the outdoor title for eight consecutive years from 1991-98.
In 1993, Lancon's squads grabbed the unprecedented "quadruple crown," capturing both the men's and women's indoor and outdoor titles.

Mdhlongwa, a four-time All-American and NCAA 1985 national champion, won four Sun Belt triple jump titles during his career. Willis was close behind with three league triple jump championships and earned three All-America honors including outdoor honors in 2003 and 2004.
Labbe was the Outstanding Performer in the 1994 Sun Belt meet and won outdoor titles in four different events in his career, three of them in 1994. Moore, an outdoor All-American in 1992, won three events in the 1992 outdoor meet in also winning Outstanding Performer honors.
Brooks won back-to-back Sun Belt 400-meter titles and joined Dobson on an All-American 4x400 relay team in 1992. Dobson won two individual titles and one relay title in his Sun Belt career.
Malcolm began a string of standout sprint performances for the Cajun women, earning 1993 Outstanding Performer honors and winning three individual and two relay events that year. Owens followed up by winning nine total Sun Belt titles, the most in school history, with four individual and five relay crowns.
Langley was a three-time Sun Belt champion in the 200-meter and won seven league titles during her career, while Harris won the 1993 Sun Belt discus title and earned All-America honors the following year.
The team included only athletes who competed since the Sun Belt added outdoor track as a conference sport for the 1992 season.

LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field teams will host the Louisiana-Lafayette Invitational Saturday, April 1, at the Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility. In a scaled-down meet, Louisiana will be joined by Nicholls State, New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.
“We are happy to be having this meet and it gives us an opportunity to compete and improve on our past performances,” said Head Coach Lance Veazey.

The University of Louisiana women's team took nine first places and the men added two more Saturday against a limited field in the UL Invitational Track and Field Meet at the Cajun Track/Soccer Complex.
The meet was a dual affair with New Orleans, but most of the field consisted of a large group of unattached entries.
UL's women swept the field events, including a two-victory performance by Desi Chatman. Chatman won the shot put (40-11) and came back for a winning 129-9 effort in the discus.

The Cajuns also got women's field wins from Toni Lee in the long jump (18-5), Kioloni Readeaux in the triple jump (37-1), Lauryn Allgood in the pole vault (10-6) and Amy Doucet in the javelin (116-1). Readeaux was also second in the long jump (17-4 1/4) and Lee second in the triple jump (36-11 1/2).
Jasmine Collins captured the 800-meter (2:19.93) for her second win of the season in the event and Casey Brown claimed the 3000-meter (11:23.06), and Readeaux, Collins, Jamie Blue and Quantisha Rambo teamed for a win in the 4x400-meter relay (4:07.35).
Both of the Cajuns' men's wins came in the field events, with Joseph Dickens winning the triple jump (46-1 1/2) and Ben Leonards winning the shot put (46-5). Leonards also finished third in the discus (120-10).
"This meet gave us an opportunity to get a lot of work in preparation for the Texas Relays," said UL coach Lance Veazey. "We got to see a lot of people in action."
UNO's Mike Conley and unattached competitor John Harvey were the meet's only double winners. Conley swept the hurdle races, winning the 110-meter event in 15.26 and the 400-meter in 55.03, while Harvey swept the sprints with a 10.86 in the 100 and a 21.62 clocking in the 200.
UL's Mikey Istre was the top collegiate finisher in the 100 with a runner-up 10.99 and was fourth in the 200 at 22.02.
