I am sure he meant Mike had zero D1 head coaching experience. You are correct about out Tony, but UL let another school make the hire and he made his entry level mistakes with them and not UL. Tony hit the ground running at UL, Mike is getting on the job experience. Big difference.
Tony Is still the all time winningest coach at McNeese with 263 victories, won coach of the year and gave them their first 40 win season. Sounds like they were pretty smart to give a 23 year old the reins of their program with zero coaching experience at all.
A D1 school gave Tony a chance with zero coaching experience at all, at 23 and it worked. Texas A&M gave a national championship coach a 100 million and it didn’t work. It will either work or it won’t and there is never a guarantee that any route you take will. Jeff Traylor went from high school to D1 HC with no coordinator experience and is 38-13 at UTSA.
