Having said that a school should not be able to suggest, a student athlete would be better off transferring. If they do, then they should be docked a scholarship from the 85, or the student should not be forced to drop down in order to play the same season.
Point taken.

There are APR exemptions I think that would help most big schools that have a lot of players transferring or leaving early for the NFL. I don't know how many big programs the APR has had any impact on.
Edit...it doesn't affect the big conferences much. A quick search of football using the link below shows historical APR reporting...of the big 5...SEC has zero penalties ever put on them for APR purposes.

Re: your thoughts on clowney
I thought it was pretty clear that I did know the NFL was exempted, in addition NBA, MLB and other pro sports are exemptions.
Don't know about transfers. I think you are on the hook for them if you sign them as freshman. If they leave you and graduate in six years you win, if they drop out or fail to graduate you lose.

Tuition, books, food, athletic clothing, exposure are all things that normal students do not get without scholarships of their own. Your reward for playing at this university should be at a minimum, a college degree and maximum, an nfl contract.
I have said for years now that anyone on scholarship should have to pay back every penny they received if they do not graduate.
actually its in reverse normal students can be given the moon with no ncaa repercussions. If you are a genius and your student work can net the university millions in the long run i can do whatever i want to make sure you have every comfort in life you desire while a student. strap on a helmet and i cant even provide cream cheese for your bagel-yes that is a rule.
so while athletes get the star ____er treatment while on campus they do not have the same treatment as other students. Take that how you wish.
