Lamar won the only meeting between the two schools last season, 5-4, in Beaumont. The return game in Lafayette was rained out. Junior Collin DeLome was named Aeropostale SLC Hitter of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Monday. In four games last week, he hit .588 (10-for-17) with nine runs scored, a double, two triples, four home runs and 12 runs batted in. A native of Buna, DeLome hit .636 (7-for-11) with six runs scored, a double, two triples, two home runs and seven RBI in helping Lamar sweep the three-game series against Nicholls State. just curious.... whats the relevance of FSU at #16? Just to show where we compare to them, or are they on our schedule? PS... where's Southern Miss?

There is also the chance that you'll be right and at the end of the season, this game will be an afterthought, but I will say this, That UALR game last year, and that USA game 3 years ago at the tigue are still ingraned into my memory.Quote:

The questions hovering over UL's ability to hit away from its Moore Field home park were pretty much answered last week.
Now, the question is whether the Ragin' Cajun baseball team can hit at home like it did all of last week.
The Cajuns (23-6) host Lamar's Cardinals (21-11) at 6:30 p.m. today at Moore Field in a battle of teams currently among the leaders in their respective conferences.
UL moved into a share of first place in the Sun Belt (9-3) over the weekend by taking two of three games at Florida International, while Lamar sits stop the Southland Conference's East Division with an 8-1 conference record after a three-game home sweep of Nicholls State over the past weekend.

The Cajuns made their move in the Sun Belt thanks to offensive firepower. In four games last week, all on the road, UL scored 53 runs and hit .369 with 26 extra-base hits - 14 home runs and 12 doubles.
"We'd been struggling to hit on the road," said Cajun coach Tony Robichaux. "But since the McNeese game (a 9-5 win two weeks ago in Lake Charles) we've done a good job of hitting when we've been on the road."
UL is within a Sunday 14-13 anomaly loss at FIU of a five-game road winning streak, and had more than its share of chances to finish off a 4-0 road week in that game. That has to be a comfort considering that after this weekend's Sun Belt home series against Western Kentucky the Cajuns will play eight road games in a nine-game stretch.
"We had a chance down to the last swing to win," Robichaux said. "If one goes five more feet we've got a grand slam in the eighth and we probably win the game. But when you're ahead, you hate to give that lead up."
The Cajuns haven't surrendered many leads at home, where they're 13-0 heading into tonight's first of two matchups with the Cardinals. The teams will meet in Beaumont, Texas, on April 24 in the final game of that eight-of-nine road sequence.
The Cajun bullpen struggled on Sunday after a series of solid outings, with the host Golden Panthers putting up the largest run total by a UL foe this season. Only twice this season has a Cajun opponent scored more than seven runs in a game, a mark FIU doubled on Sunday after UL won the first two games of the league series.
"We're halfway through this thing and that's the first time a bullpen issue has flared its head since last year," Robichaux said. "We went into the season worried about the bullpen and it's been solid. I don't think we'll have any lingering effects ... the good thing is we didn't walk or hit people or make errors."
Robichaux will pick from junior John Zorich (3-1, 3.89), junior Brent Solich (2-0, 4.32) or sophomore Greg Wilborn (1-0, 5.40), all lefthanders, for tonight's start. Solich threw the final 1 2/3 innings Sunday, only throwing 14 pitches.
Lamar, in its 30th year under head coach Jim Gilligan, is expected to start junior righthander Brad Depoy (1-0, 7.20), getting his first start after six relief appearances and having thrown only five innings this season.

The UALR game last year was costly because it kept us from tying for the conference championship and a #1 seed in the SBC tournament. The reg. season champ has always gotten in. That left it to the committee and our RPI kept us out.Quote:

Call Steve Peloquin. He'll fix you up.
First, if you are depending on a road sweep over FIU to make the postseason, you are falling short in other areas. 2/3 from FIU on the road was what I expected going into the weekend and I said so. Troy could not sweep FIU at home (they were smoked 9-1 in Game #2).Quote:

I touched on some of the reasons why the FIU RPI was where it was last week. FIU is not the worst team in the conference by a longshot. But the RPI says that it is right now. I do not believe it will at the end of the season.

Pick any conference loss from last season ... that was the loss that kept us out of the postseason last year.Quote:

I agree Brian. You can "what if" every loss. However, I think what hurt us more last year that the Ark. Little Rock loss was all of the non-conference losses to La. Tech, Northwestern and McNeese, just to name a few. That kills us every year. I know it is difficult to schedule, but this year is a much better schedule with Sothern Miss, Houston and Arizona State. We need to schedule that way every year. It should be a lot easier to make sure that our RPI stays where it shold be with LSU and Tulane back on the schedule.Quote:
