Thanks for the great response. I would vote in a heartbeat to get a coach with a super reputation and name in the business, with ties to our area, in order to immediately snag some key recruits and some fan excitement and support. Recruiting is king. If our money and system can get that guy, I can't wait to hear who he is.

If it's a plug that made his "name" by hanging around large programs and great athletes, I have serious doubts about getting a wave of substantially better talent to overcome an average head coach.

I take it that in your recruiting view a guy whose reputation was built by success at a lower division of football will not get the attention of better recruits.

I completely agree.

I am not sure you guys understand what happened at Ole Miss. Orgeron was an outcast in Oxford from week 1. He did not play ball with the wealthy power wielding alumns, would not let them call the shots, and they began preparing to oust him before he even got moved into his house, these are facts.

Joey Jones (USA Jaguars) has one of the most impressive records as a head coach in all of college football right now, he is a local Alabamian, a household name in Mobile from his years playing for Auburn, and an enthusiastic leader.

Coach O has many of the same attributes which may just translate into similar success.

Maybe we should cut the guy loose in Louisiana and see.

Especially one that is unkown in this state as a recruiter. It's much easier to do that at a BCS program.

Well, besides having a reputation of a great recruiter, which didn't seem to work at Ole Miss, he hasn't shown to be that great a coach. Also, when I listened to him on the radio, I didn't get a very good impression of him. He's not the kind of coach I'd like to see take over our program. Yes, he had good def. lines in college but when he was the Saints D-line coach, they showed no improvement, and may have gotten worse than the year before.

I am telling you straight up, if you are in a room or on the field with him, he is intense as hell, demanding, competetive, and in freaking motion; but yes, Coach Orgeron does have a CAJUN accent.

A Cajun accent is no different than a British, Italian, Australian, Spanish, Irish, Russian, Indian, Nigerian, and Liberian or Midwestern accent.

If the Cajuns had any true interest in hiring him, they would have done it last year when the opportunity was there. There are too many issues with him to pay that type of money and have it backfire in the program's face. They aren't going to hire Orgeron.

Saban sucked at Miami too. You can't make a single comparison to what goes on at the NFL level and college. It is entirely different. You are taking highschool graduates and working them, as a unit, for 4 to 5 years. There is nothing whatsoever similar in the NFL.

Also, he did recruit well for Ole Miss. Ole Miss was in serious decline and he did get them a burst of good recruits. You cannot blame him for results he has nothing to do with.

I'm not pushing for "O", but I haven't seen a good argument yet against the guy for UL. I'm watching and listening and feel a bunch of people on here are indicting him on BS from fan forums of other programs. If he cannot get our program winning, then I don't want him. No one on this forum has given any such evidence.

As far as hearing him speak, his public speaking is better than Stokley, Bustle and Baldwin... I assure you of that. Just because a bunch of rednecks and hillbillies at Ole Miss and Tennessee made fun of his accent does not justify any of us doing it.

I'll let Scott Farmer decide if "O" belongs on the short list.

Orgeron is making a million dollars a year at USC. He has a five year contract.
His agent says that's the starting point for negotiations.

Some will insist he will come for less. He won't. In fact, he won't come, period. He will yank our chain like Tim Floyd did.

On top of that, do you really want someone as your head coach who will probably necessitate having an NCAA compliance office in Lafayette?

The coaches accent has nothing to do with why I wasn't impressed. It's what he said. And no I don't remember his words, it was a couple of years ago. I was left with the impression, you know, I don't really think much of this guy (coaching wise) and wouldn't want him leading our team.

However, your a little light in the loafers if you think anyone that's an awesome recruiter is NOT going to have nonstop NCAA compliance furniture thrown off the back of the truck in front of him by every malcontent coach that he out recruits, because that my friend is how the system works. BTW, who is Cam Newton? The more frustration a coach causes, the more he gets, and trust me on this, we need a guy that is willing to make waves down at the deep end of the pool.

Please proceed with the compliance office opening, I hope we are going to need it soon.

I have it on good authority that his family is still here, his kids are at a highschool in the Mandeville area and they are getting to the age where they will begin playing highschool sports. As a father, wouldn't it be nice to go see your kids play a game on friday night?

Its not all about money J, I don't know if its likely but, I wouldn't right the idea off completely.

Jay --I guess you haven't heard that BEBE is coming and will initially handle the defense and the offense will be run by Carl Smith of the Browns----Also,depending on his injury, Jake could be the qb coach!!!!! The contractual greater monetary amounts will be shifted to post Obama tax years which creates a win/win for all!!!! LOL maybe!!!!
