Any news on today's game?
Softball Trivia: Only once have the Lady Cajuns gone undefeated at home.
1993
I'd wager that was a good year! .~. So, how often (or when was the last time) we went undefeated at home in conference play? Probably not to long ago? :rolleyes:Quote:

LOUISIANA La. – Three unearned runs in the fourth inning led Middle Tennessee to a 4-3 victory over the 15th-ranked Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team in the rubber match of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on Thursday morning.
Middle Tennessee claimed the series 2-1 with the victory.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings. Holly Tankersley held the Blue Raiders (11-13, 2-1 Sun Belt) to two hits.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (21-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) had the table set in the bottom of the third inning after Vallie Gaspard and Karli Hubbard both reached on infield singles. No outs were on the scoreboard with the top of the lineup ready to bat.
Codi Runyan and Tankersley both hit into fielder’s choice grounders for the forcing out Gaspard and then Hubbard at third base. Lacey Bertucci struck out swinging to end the inning.
Justine Cerda began the Blue Raiders fourth inning with a grounder to third base that Melissa Verde bobbled allowing Cerda to reach first base on the error.
A Katie Mielke sacrifice bunt advanced pinch runner Corrie Abel to second base. Tankersley got Muriel Ledbetter to pop up to Runyan at shortstop for the second out.
With the inning still alive because of the error, Martha Davis then looped a single into shallow right field just over the reach of Tara Hamilton to score Abel for a 1-0 lead.
Ashley Cline then followed with a home run that banged off the left field foul pole to score two more runs and up the MT lead to 3-0.
The Ragin’ Cajuns got a run back in their half of the fourth inning. A double by Verde gave UL a baserunner and she was brought home on a two-out double from Lana Bowers to trim the deficit to 3-1.
The Blue Raiders tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Shelby Stiner got a one-out single down the right field line which was followed by a single to center field off the bat of Melissa Weiland.
Caitlin McLure put down a bunt that dropped beyond the reach of Verde and rolled past Runyan into shallow left field allowing Whitney Darlington (re-entered to run for Weiland) to score upping the lead to 4-1.
Louisiana-Lafayette made one final push in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hubbard reached on a fielder’s choice with one out. Runyan was then hit by pitch
A Tankersley grounder moved Runyan to second and Hubbard to third base. Bertucci worked the count full before drawing a walk to load the bases.
Desi Chatman lifted a double into right center field to score Hubbard and Runyan to slice the lead to 4-3 and keep the rally going.
Verde swung at the first offering from MT starter Lindsey Vander Lugt and it was a grounder to first base that Cerda picked up and tagged the base for the final out.
Tankersley fell to 8-3 on the season with the loss. She didn’t allow an earned run and posted five strikeouts over five innings.
Brittany Cuevas came on in relief in the sixth inning and tossed the final two innings.
Vander Lugt picked up the victory for the Blue Raiders and improved to 7-9.
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns will now take to the road for three more Sun Belt Conference games this week. UL travels to Boca Raton, Fla., to meet Florida Atlantic on Saturday and Sunday March 10 and 11.
The FAU series starts on Saturday, March 10 at 5 p.m. (CST).

For the second straight game Thursday, Middle Tennessee's softball team took better advantage of its opportunities than UL's 13th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns.
Because of that, the Cajuns are in a very unfamiliar position - looking up at the rest of the Sun Belt Conference.
Junior second baseman Ashley Cline's two-run homer off the left-field foul pole was the big hit in a three-run third inning, and pitcher Lindsey Vander Lugt made that stand up just enough for the Blue Raiders to take a 4-3 win over the Cajuns Thursday at Lamson Park.
Heading into Wednesday's Sun Belt doubleheader, MT had never won a game from UL in 29 previous tries. Now, with Wednesday's 5-3 second-game win, the Raiders became the first team in the league's seven-year softball history to take a series from the Cajuns (21-6, 1-2).
"It's huge for our program," said MT coach Leigh Podlesny. "Any time you beat a ranked team it's huge, but for it to be in your conference it's even more important. Even if the record hadn't been so much in their favor, it would still be a huge boost."

The Cajun squad, which won 4-1 in Wednesday's opener, now finds itself in a hole in the standings and headed to play highly-regarded Florida Atlantic in a three-game series beginning Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla.
"We've got some things we have to fix," said UL co-head coach Michael Lotief, "and we don't have two weeks to do it. We've got to do it within the schedule, and those next guys want a piece of us, too."
Thursday's series finale was nearly a carbon copy of Wednesday's nightcap, with the Raiders (11-13, 2-1) using a big inning and a big hit for an early advantage. Both times, UL rallies down the stretch came up short.
UL pitcher Holly Tankersley (8-3) had given up two hits through three innings before Justine Cerda reached on Cajun third baseman Melissa Verde's error. A sacrifice bunt and a popup put Tankersley within an out of escaping, but Martha Davis blooped a hit just past the reach of second baseman Tara Hamilton for a 1-0 lead.
Cline followed with her second homer of the year, clanging it off the foul pole to make it 3-0.
"It was an inside pitch and it didn't break," Cline said. "I just hit it and ran. It gave us a big boost. This will show that we're capable of playing at this level."
UL cut the margin in the fourth on doubles by Verde and Lana Bowers, but Middle got an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Caitlin McLure's push bunt was out of Verde's reach and shortstop Codi Runyan watched the ball roll into left field, scoring Shelby Stiner from second for what turned out to be the winning run.
"When you're struggling, that run was like five," Lotief said.
UL scored two in the bottom of the seventh off Vander Lugt (7-9) on Desi Chatman's bases-loaded double. But with the tying run at third, Verde's hot ground ball was handled by Cerda at first base for the final out.
"We gave up the three-run inning and had to fight back," Lotief said. "We were one hit away from getting it done, but it wasn't the last inning that beat us. In the middle innings we lost all our energy and enthusiasm, and as young as we are we have to compete better every inning and every out."

BOCA RATON, Fla. - UL's softball team tries to re-establish Sun Belt Conference superiority today and Sunday, but that won't be an easy task.
The Ragin' Cajuns, surprised in a mid-week league series when Middle Tennessee took two of three games earlier this week, will face new Sun Belt member Florida Atlantic in a three-game series at the FAU Softball Stadium.
The teams will play two games at 5 p.m. Saturday and a single game at noon on Sunday in the first-ever meetings between the squads. FAU joined the Sun Belt as a full-sport member this season, and the Owls were picked to finish second behind the seven-time league champion Cajuns in the preseason coaches' poll.
But UL isn't sitting atop the Sun Belt right now, after losing a league series for the first time since the Sun Belt added softball when Middle split a Wednesday twinbill and then took a 4-3 decision Thursday at Lamson Park.

"We have a lot of things we have to work on and a lot of things we have to get better at," said Cajun co-head coach Michael Lotief. "We didn't pitch well enough, we didn't hit well enough and we didn't play defense well enough, and that's what happens when you don't do those things well."
The Cajuns (21-6, 1-2) will send freshman Brittany Cuevas (12-3, 1.62) and junior Holly Tankersley (8-3, 2.57) to the circle in the series, while FAU (13-7) boasts the league's three top pitchers statistically in preseason all-league pick Jen Musillo (4-3, 1.20), Kathryn Stauffer (4-0, 1.27) and Meghan Doonan (2-2, 1.51). The two teams are the only league clubs with a team ERA under 2.00 (1.87 for FAU, 1.92 for UL).
The Cajuns, though, are hitting .287 as a club compared to FAU's .236 mark, and UL has three of the league's top 10 hitters in shortstop Codi Runyan (.366), outfielder Karli Hubbard (.365) and Tankersley (.361). Runyan and Tankersley have also teamed for 16 home runs and are one-two in the league in both homers and RBI.
FAU had a six-game win streak snapped with a loss to Penn State Sunday in the finals of the Miken Classic. The Owls, coached by legendary softball figure Joan Joyce, have won eight of their last 10 games.

BOCA RATON, Fla. -A seventh-inning rally lifted the 15th-ranked Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team to a 3-2 victory over Florida Atlantic here Saturday evening in the opener of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
For 6 2/3 innings, FAU starting pitcher Jen Musillo was able to keep the Cajuns off the scoreboard. Senior first baseman Lacey Bertucci changed all of that with one mighty swing in the top of the seventh inning and UL down to its final out.
With two outs in the top half of the inning and the Cajuns (22-6, 2-2 SBC)trailing 2-0, Bertucci stepped to the plate with runners at second and third and delivered a 1-1 offering from Musillo over the centerfield wall to give the Cajuns their first lead of the game at 3-2.
Musillo hit Vallie Gaspard with a pitch to lead off the top half of the seventh and Karli Hubbard followed with a single to left field. Gaspard was retired at third on a Codi Runyan fielder's choice and Holly Tankersley grounded out to third for the second out leaving the Cajuns with only one chance to avoid a three-game losing streak.

With two outs Hubbard advanced to third on a wild pitch and Shari Sigur, who entered the game as a pinch runner for Runyan, advanced to second. Both scored ahead of Bertucci on the three-run shot.
Cajuns starting pitcher Brittany Cuevas struck out FAU's Lauren Crandall with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with runners on second and third.Mandi Fishback and Amy Bukovich had both singled earlier in the inning and advanced to second and third on a fielder's choice.
Cuevas' strikeout of Crandall in the bottom of the seventh was her ninth of the game. Cuevas scattered eight FAU hits en route to her 13th win of the season, improving her season record to 13-3. Musillo dropped to 4-4.
The Cajuns failed to score in the top half of the first inning, after loading the bases on a Tankersley single to right centerfield, a Bertucci single down the right field line and a walk issued to Melissa Verde.
Tankersley's single extended her hitting streak to 12 games.
FAU (13-8, 0-1 SBC)struck for a single run in the bottom half of the inning as Jenna Lopez led off withtriple to the centerfield wall and scored on a slap single to left from Ambar Jones. The Owls led 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
The Owls threatened again in the bottom half of the third inning, placing runners at second and third with one out. However, Cajun starting pitcher Brittany Cuevas struck out the next two FAU hitters and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Florida Atlantic at the end of the fourth inning.
FAU added a single run in the bottom half of the fifth inning as the Owls loaded the bases with one out. Crandall's sacrifice fly to right field plated Jones who had earlier singled in the inning and at the end of the fifth, the Owls led 2-0.
The Cajuns were led offensively with two hits each from Bertucci and Hubbard.
The game marked the first meeting between the two schools as members of the Sun Belt Conference. The Owls, previously members of the Atlantic Sun Conference, are in their first tour of duty in the Sun Belt this season.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Lady Cajuns of Louisiana softball team got the bats working in the top half of the third inning in game two here on Saturday night, as Louisiana-Lafayette took game two of a Sun Belt Conference series with Florida Atlantic by the score of 7-2.
The win completed a doubleheader sweep for the Ragin’ Cajuns who defeated FAU 3-2 earlier Saturday evening on a Lacey Bertucci three-run home run in the seventh inning.
Louisiana improves to 23-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. FAU drops to 13-9 and 0-2 in Sun Belt competition.
With the score tied at one in the UL half of the third, Holly Tankersley led off the inning with an infield hit and Bertucci followed with a base on balls. Desi Chatman's RBI single to center scored pinch runner Courtney Trahan from second and the Cajuns led 2-1.
Following a Melissa Verde walk, Meagan Godwin delivered a two-RBI single to left centerfield, scoring pinch runner Adele Files and Chatman to give Louisiana-Lafayette a 4-1 lead.
Lana Bowers added an RBI single in the inning, and at the end of the Cajun half of the third, UL led 5-1.
The Cajuns picked up a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead as Tankersley drew a walk with one out and scored on a Chatman double to right centerfield.
The Owls answered with an RBI double of their own in the bottom of the first as Jenna Lopez scored from second on a Mandi Fishback double to left field to tie the score at one at the end of the first inning. The Owls half of the first ended as Amy Bukovich's deep drive to left field in foul territory was tracked down by Cajun left fielder Vallie Gaspard on a fine defensive play.
In the bottom half of the third, FAU cut the lead to 5-2 as Bukovich singled to center and Fishback scored from second.
Tankersley led off the top half of the fourth with a towering shot over the right field wall, clearing the scoreboard and the palm trees, to extend the Cajuns lead to 6-2. Tankersley's homer was her eighth of the season.
With one out in the inning, Chatman homered to left field, a solo shot for her fourth of the season. With the two runs in the top half of the fourth, the Cajuns increased their lead to 7-2.
Both teams went quietly in the final three innings as Louisiana closed out the 7-2 win.
Tankersley gave up four hits over her seven innings of work and improved her season record to 9-3.
Kathryn Stauffer, who pitched the first 3 1/3 innings for the Owls was tagged with her first loss of the season, and is now 4-1. Meagan Dunen and Amber Barton also saw time in the pitching circle for FAU.
The Cajuns totaled seven hits in the contest led by Chatman who was 3-for-four at the plate, with a double and a homerun, and three RBI's. Tankersley added two hits, one a solo homerun. Godwin added a hit and two RBI's and Bowers was one for three with an RBI.
Tankersley’s two hits extended her season-best hitting streak to 13 games.
Louisiana-Lafayette will go for the series sweep over the Owls on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. (CDT).

UL's 14th-ranked softball squad finished off a three-game sweep of the team predicted to challenge the Cajuns for the Sun Belt Conference title Sunday afternoon.
More importantly to Ragin' Cajun coach Stefni Lotief, her team got some of its attitude back.
The Cajuns followed the two-hit pitching of freshman Brittany Cuevas and an 11-hit attack to a 3-0 victory over Florida Atlantic in Sunday's final game of a three-game series. UL (24-6, 4-2 Sun Belt) had taken 3-2 and 7-2 wins in Saturday night's twinbill.
FAU (13-10, 0-3 Sun Belt), new in the league this season, was picked second behind the Cajuns in the Sun Belt coaches' preseason poll after winning nine Atlantic Sun Conference titles in 10 years.

The Cajuns are the seven-time Sun Belt champions, but showed a chink in their armor Wednesday and Thursday in losing their first-ever league series when Middle Tennessee took two of three games at UL's Lamson Park.
"The girls got a little of their swagger back," Lotief said. "They played very well the whole weekend. They were able to come into Florida Atlantic, into an unfamiliar place on their home field and in their environment, and they competed from first pitch to last. We really needed that."
Cuevas (14-3) did more than her share of competing Sunday, checking the Owls on a two-out Mandie Fishback single in the first inning and a two-out double by Becky Brandies in the fourth. She allowed only one other baserunner, that on an error, and struck out five of the last six batters she faced.
"It was good for her to have that kind of performance," Lotief said. "It gave us the momentum we needed."
The Cajuns touched FAU senior and preseason all-league pick Jen Musillo (4-5) for 11 hits including four extra-base hits and a Lacey Bertucci solo homer to left field to lead off the seventh inning and provide the final margin.
UL got to Musillo early in the first inning when Codi Runyan walked, moved up on a Bertucci single and scored on Desi Chatman's liner to the wall in left center. The Cajuns made it 2-0 in the fourth when Lana Bowers doubled to left and scored on Vallie Gaspard's double down the left-field line.
UL's three through five hitters in the lineup - Bertucci, Chatman and Melissa Verde - each had two hits in the Cajuns' first double-digit hitting attack in their last nine games.
The Cajuns had won Saturday's opener on Bertucci's three-run homer with two outs in the seventh inning and UL trailing 2-0. That gave Cuevas the opening victory, and UL jumped ahead in Saturday's nightcap with seven runs in the first four innings and Holly Tankersley threw four straight shutout innings to hold that lead.
"Lacey's home run was huge for us," Lotief said of the Saturday sweep. "We needed to have a big play, a big pitch or a big hit and Lacey was able to do that. We needed to get some wins under our belt ... that was important for all of these young players."
UL has the weekend off from Sun Belt play but not from competition, with the Cajuns traveling to Fullerton, Calif., Thursday-Sunday to take part in the prestigious Judi Garman Classic (formerly the KIA Klassic).

For the second time this season, Holly Tankersley and Brittany Cuevas have given UL's softball team a sweep of the Sun Belt Conference's weekly awards.
Tankersley and Cuevas were named the league's Players of the Week after leading the Ragin' Cajuns to a 4-2 start and to a 24-6 overall record. The two were also honored with the league's weekly awards on Feb. 26, and Tankersley has won it three times already this season.
Tankersley, a junior, went 9-for-21 (.429) at the plate, hitting two home runs and totaling five RBIs. The Kirbyville, Texas native also appeared three times in the circle, holding opponents to 13 hits over 17 innings and finishing with a 1.24 ERA, allowing only three earned runs. She currently leads the team in batting average (.366) and leads the Sun Belt in runs batted in (33).
In only her first week of conference play, freshman Cuevas went 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA, posting 28 strikeouts in 25 innings. She recorded a 3-0 shutout on Sunday over Florida Atlantic, striking out 11 batters and giving up only two hits. Her first SBC win came against Middle Tennessee on Wednesday.
