This. Mid majors are the perfect whipping boys to make examples of to teach the "big boys" a lesson. This will probably not end well for us.

We corrected the problem as soon as we were sure about Saunders and self-imposed sanctions on ourselves. What else could we have done?

how do you know we self-imposed? and what were the sanctions we observed?
