There should be little to no concessions sold at football games by the university. My Gameday Experience idea solves this. Your ticket gets you on the grounds of Cajun Field Park. Nobody would ever have need for another 5$ water bottle. People would come and go as they please to the Tailgating area for drinks/food. Food Trucks welcome wherever.

Sounds cool, but also sounds like a disaster at the same time.

Re: Should UL get rid of Sodexo?
What really needs to happen is that something must be put in place to allow vendors at sporting events, even if Sodexo remains.
I understand the reasoning behind not allowing people to have tents and BBQ pits without paying, but if you remove one option, you need to create an avenue for another.
We need a designated area where local vendors, food trucks, tents, tables, and chairs can be set up all day, creating that special atmosphere we all miss and crave at football games. The same goes for baseball and softball; the entire experience needs to be revamped to make it the best available for fans, encouraging them to keep coming back.
This is the only way to grow the fanbase without relying solely on winning, and it’s essential for staying relevant and bringing in more revenue.
Exploiting the fans who actually come to the game by offering subpar food options at outrageous prices is a disaster in the long run!
Maggard and company need to get out of there comfort zone and go to get out on Sunday, and go to Church Point, Mamou, Eunice, Broussard, Scott and all these small town parades. Just think of it like a study, on what the people of acadiana are looking for!! Show up and see how many vendors are walking up and down the streets, and all these people just sitting around in there lawn chairs just hanging out and talking!
Do not sit in your little box an hour before the parade starts go out and talk to people!!

I just want my $2 beer back. Don't care about the food as I never bought it.

Re: Should UL get rid of Sodexo?
Huge missed sponsor opportunity with the removal of the "$2 Nattys!"
"$2 Nattys brought to you by ..."
Sponsors would have lined up to be a part of a proven concept that happens to be the most popular national publicity garnering "in-venue" concept ever dropped at The Swamp.

Re: Should UL get rid of Sodexo?
Sodexo gets a % of outside vendor sales....this is why some vendors have pulled out. they simply were not making enough to justify being in the venue. This is a sodexo contract issue, not a UL issue. Sodexo has a monopoly on venue concessions. if it were as easy as just let any restaurant into the venue to sell, it would happen, but its not that simple.

Re: Should UL get rid of Sodexo?
They are also in corporate America. The facility I work at is contracted through Sodexo. Dont know if they still do. What I do know is that some of the people I see in the staff list used to be at our facility and got run off for poor food quality and service. Sound familiar?

Tear up the contract.
Simple.
Do the same with the TV contract.
Our best interests are not being served by either of them.

LOL!! Sodexo would love that. Their cost go to almost nothing and they still get paid. After all that is what a contract is for. And who replaces them? I mentioned it earlier but apparently there isn't really anyone out there willing to take on the athletic events separate from the rest of the University.
The TV contract is run through the SBC so we don't control that.

I don't care. Anything is better than what we have now.
If we can't pay people to hand out water bottles and Natty Lights we're in deep shat. Didn't we use volunteers to do that years ago?
We need to think outside the box here. Let people bring their own food and drink into the venues. Let the local Food Trucks/Restaurants have free reign in the venues.
There must be a way, in the food and drink capital of the world, to make sure people have a good time at our events and don't die because we ran out of water and don't have to take out a loan for a large popcorn and 2 pops.

Let people bring in their own food?? Thats an horrendous idea. You cant even do that a Rayne High football game.

Astros allow it so there are ways to allow it. Might just have to be creative with the contract
-

Gotta be quicker than that Turbine

Yet they make sooo much money off tickets sales and TV deals. giving up concession revenue would be an awful decision

I use to be.
Back when I was young (er) I could spot my mistakes and fix them in under a minute.
Now it takes me two or more ... plus friends.
