Re: Time to give Brad Boyd a shot.
You thought people got mad when Des was hired because of his qualifications? Hire brad and excrement will hit the fan.

I'll leave that up to the new coach to decide who he wants on his staff. I'm very certain Boyd won't be on it.

I get what your saying and you are not wrong but they are not the same.
Football was dealing from strength. Basketball is reeling from weakness.
Re: Time to give Brad Boyd a shot.
This position is an outstanding opportunity for some BB genius. Show him our facilities and teach him of our history. We could land an outstanding, polished gem. Overnight turnaround possibility.
Return to Glory. Cajuns Basketball is not this.

Football was replacing a coach on a top 25 team with a local guy assistant coach
Basketball could probably give the clipboard to a chimpanzee and do just as well as we're doing right now
Re: Time to give Brad Boyd a shot.
Devin Johnson - Texas A&M
Another younger option.

He can have an assistant job, but he is so far behind the curve on ever being a college coach. Kellen is probably not attainable but that is the type of coach we need to be contacting. Hodgson at Arkansas State is a perfect example of a guy we need. Young, hungry recruiter. He can get dudes to go there. Very important to go get a young guy that has connections around the country and is not afraid to go on the road and recruit. Marlin hasn't done that in years.
What's laughable is letting things get to this point

brock morris - currently Assistant at Oklahoma. Prior JUCO HC success. prior Ole Miss assistant. Prior UL assistant.

You think Memphis fans are glad they didn't do a national search? I suspect strongly that they are.
Penny Hardaway's tenure has not been an incredible success.

100%!!
Re: Time to give Brad Boyd a shot.
No reason why we shouldn't be having crowds like the Marshall game 2 years ago every damn night! Just hire someone with passion and energy that can run an offense, please

No thanks. I’d rather not have anyone ever associated with Bob Marlin.

We need a complete reset.
Re: Time to give Brad Boyd a shot.
Recall interviews sometime after Dr. Maggard let Coach Hud go/hired CBN, stating pretty much above all else 'we need to fix football'. Also meaning get the stadium done. As far as the stadium is concerned, football is almost 'fixed' and very fortunately for all Coach Des turned the corner this season. Perhaps Dr. Maggard's 2025 resolution will be to fix basketball.

I don't understand. so, a guy is here for a few years, leaves and is successful at several other programs, where presumably he learned how and what to do, but we don't want him because something from Marlin a decade ago might have rubbed off on him?

He was here just a few years ago.

Both years the Cajuns made the tournament he was the assistant coach and lead recruiter. Brock will make an excellent head coach one day. I think he will eventually end up on an nba staff.

I'm not saying he isn't capable I just think a total reset with no ties would be better.
Re: Time to give Brad Boyd a shot.
Brock is 4-0 as Louisiana "coach in charge"

That's a very short sighted viewpoint. Perhaps the guy was smart enough to leave because of his boss. Can't just say that a bad boss means everyone underneath him/her is guilty by association.
The Cajundome feels empty with 3k people in it much less 200. We need someone who has fire and energy to get the local fanbase back into basketball. I haven't been to a game in years because it's like attending a funeral and will down right put you to sleep. We're a terrible team, Marlin knows it, Marlin doesn't want to admit it and Marlin should know that he's on the way out.
If Maggard allows Marlin to come back another year I will have lost all respect for him and the job he is supposed to do. And if Bob is a friend of Maggard's he shouldn't be putting him in this position.......that's not a friend.
